Background It is a common practice in developing countries that medical/infectious waste openly dumped with municipal solid *** paper presented a generation and characterization study of hospital *** of the waste composition is a basic step for selecting the most efficient treatment method of hospital *** Stratified random sampling was used to collect the samples of general as well as medical wastes for seven *** waste was sorted into 10 categories whereas general waste was classified into 11 *** was observed thoroughly for observing flaws in the incineration *** was analyzed by using SPSS software version *** The studied hospital produced an average 297 kilograms of medical waste daily and it comprises plastics （71.0％）,glass （13.9％）,papers etc.（3.8％）,cotton/dressings （5.7％）,masks/gloves/sheets （0.3％） diapers （0.4％）,wasted machines used in operation theaters （2.0％） and blades （0.1％）.Laboratories,cancer ward,nursery ward,OPD and emergency ward are the largest infectious waste producing departments in the *** hospital produced an average 3 511 kilograms of general waste daily in which organics constitute （44.3％）,diapers etc.（42.8％）,demolition materials （3.7％）,plastic waste mixing medical plastic waste （2.5％）,miscellaneous （2.14％）,cloth/clothes （1.6％）,cardboard （1.3％）,papers （0.8％）,cotton dressings （0.28％）,glass （0.27％） and iron materials （0.18％）.Other alarming facts are：medical waste is recycled in study area,after incineration of hospital waste,ash simply dumped in the premises of the hospital without any liner *** The studied hospital produces 10％ of infectious waste and 90％ of general *** largest components of the infectious waste are plastic and *** and diapers are major components of the general waste coming from different sites of the *** of training,inadequate knowledge regarding to the composition of the infectious waste and risks

Nicotine induced hepatotoxicity and its prevention with date palm pit powder

Cigarette smoking is common in societies worldwide and has been identifi ed as injurious to human health. Nicotine is the most abundant component in the cigarette smoke. It is fi rst metabolized in the liver. The natural diet contains a variety of compounds, such as date palm(Phoenix dactylifera L.). It exhibits protective effect against different toxins. The aims of present study were to investigate the damaging effects of nicotine on the liver and the preventive role of date palm against such damage. Date palm pit powder was used to study its protective effect on nicotine induced hepatotoxicity. Three groups of adult male albino mice were used, each containing eight animals. Group A served as a control; Group B was used as an experimental group treated with nicotine(0.3 mg/kg) intraperitoneally for forty-fi ve days; Group C received nicotine(0.3 mg/kg) intraperitoneally along with date palm pit powder(500 mg/kg) orally for forty-five days. Histopathological examination revealed that the general architecture was damaged with increase in size of hepatocytes, central vein and number of fat vacuoles and periportal infiltration of lymphocytes. The nicotine treated mice showed decreased level of cytoplasmic vacuolization, necrosis and infl ammation. Date palm pit powder administration to nicotine-treated mice showed reversion of the damaged feature to nearly normal. These results along with previous study suggest that date palm pit powder is useful in combating nicotine induced hepatotoxicity.

Face recognition is a big challenge in the research field with a lot of problems like misalignment,illumination changes,pose variations,occlusion,and *** a single solution to solve all these problems at a time is a challenging *** have put some effort to provide a solution to solving all these issues by introducing a face recognition model based on local tetra patterns and spatial pyramid *** technique is based on a procedure where the input image is passed through an algorithm that extracts local features by using spatial pyramid matching ***,the input image is recognized using a robust kernel representation method using extracted *** qualitative and quantitative analysis of the proposed method is carried on benchmark image *** results showed that the proposed method performs better in terms of standard performance evaluation parameters as compared to state-of-the-art methods on AR,ORL,LFW,and FERET face recognition datasets.

Environmental Impacts of the Existing Solid Waste Management System of Northern Lahore

With the substantial increase in solid waste due to industrialization and urbanization,the environmental damage has also aggravated,making the management of solid waste an important issue throughout the *** warming,species extinction,imbalance in nutrient cycle and random disposal of hazardous waste are some environmental problems threatening sustainable *** solid waste from the study area mainly consists of organic waste(66%),recyclables(25%) and miscellaneous waste(9%).About 10% of the organic waste is composted by public facilities funded by the government;whereas the entire miscellaneous waste is dumped at dumping sites without going through any *** 41% of the recyclables are sold to junk shops by households,and 28% are sorted out by scavengers at dumping *** EASEWASTE model is used to evaluate the impacts of existing solid waste management system on *** major gases which contribute to life cycle impact assessment are carbon dioxide(CO),methane(CH4),nitrous oxide(NO),CFCs(CFC-11,CFC-12,CFC-113,CFC-114 and CFC-115),HCFCs(HCFC-22,HCFC-123,HCFC-124 and HCFC-141 b),HFCs(HFC-125,HFC-134 a and HFC-152 a),halons,tetra chloromethane(CCl),1,1,1-trichloroethane(CClCH) and carbon monoxide(CO),and global warming potential is calculated by the EASEWASTE model at different timelines,i.e.20,100 and 500 years,*** toxicity via water and air is also evaluated and it found that the existing system is polluting the environment in many ways.
