Iron Deficiency Anemia in School Age Children in District Karak Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan

The present study aimed to estimate the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in school-going children. Both Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia have considerable adverse effect on human health. Among the different negative health concerns, including stunt development, less developed immunity, lower IQ level, no proper physical work capacity, more fatigue, maternal mortality rates, young ones born with low birth weight, birth complications and infant mortality rates are some of the remarkable health concerns posed by iron deficiency level. Our study sample was consisting of 420 school age children of both genders. The blood samples were collected in EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) tubes from different school and health maternity centres by trained and veteran persons. Questionnaires were utilised for the data collection, at the time of blood samples collection. Hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrite (Hct), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), white blood cell and red blood cell (RBC) were determine by automatic hematological analyzer model Symex Ks-21 having two reagents, cell pack and Stromatolyser-wwt 500 ml. The total percentage of anemia recorded in school age children was 34.0%. In tehsil Banda Daud Shah, the incidence of anemia was high up to 43.6% while in tehsil Takhti Nasrati and Karak was 32.1% and 26.4% respectively. The percentage was higher in girls (38.9%) than in boys (31.0%). The anemia percentage was recorded high (55.8%) in lower socioeconomic family children, than middle class (32.2%) and upper class (17%). The percentage of anemic children was also high (40%) in age group of 10 - 12 years. Pale skin was the most common symptom of anemia.

Isolation and Identification of Multi-Drug Resistant Strains of Non-Lactose Fermenting Bacteria from Clinical Isolates

Purpose: We studied the drug resistance of different microbes from clinical isolates. The morphological characteristics of bacteria were observed through culture characteristics and by carrying out gram staining techniques while the biochemical characteristics of bacteria were carried out by biochemical test. Methods: A total of 324 samples were collected from suspected patients visiting different hospitals at district Peshawar. For morphological identification, samples of clinical isolates were analyzed by blood agar, MacConkey agar and Eosine Methylene Blue, identified by gram staining and characterized by different biochemical tests. Antibiotic Sensitivity test by Modified Kirby-Bauer Disc diffusion method was used to test the in-vitro susceptibility of the identified isolates to different antibiotics such as Ceftazidime, Ceftazidime, Ceftriaxone, Cefepime and Imipenem. Results: These resistant non-lactose fermenting gram negative bacteria were isolated from samples of pus/wound (33.30%, n = 108/324), blood (33.30%, n = 108/324), urine (23.30%, n = 75/324) and from ascetic/pleural fluids (10.20%, n = 33/324). The study revealed that the percentage of non-fermenting bacterial infection was higher in females (53%) as compared to males (47%) along with higher infection observed in the age group of 11 - 30 years. Pseudomonas aeroginosa showed high resistance against Cefepime (88.80%), followed by Cefoperazone (55.50%), Ceftazidime (48.10%), Ceftriaxone (33.30%). Imipenem was active with low resistance (7.40%). More resistance was seen in Morganella morganii against Imipenem (66.70%) followed by Cefoperazone (55.50%), Ceftriaxone (55.50%). Cefepime showed low resistance (11%). Multi-drug resistant Proteus mirabillis was highly resistance to Ceftriaxone (74.07%), followed by Cefepime (59.20%), Cefoperazone (44.40%) and low resistance for Imipenem (25.90%). Developing Lexicons for Enhanced Sentiment Analysis in Software Engineering:An Innovative Multilingual Approach for Social Media Reviews

Sentiment analysis is becoming increasingly important in today’s digital age, with social media being a significantsource of user-generated content. The development of sentiment lexicons that can support languages other thanEnglish is a challenging task, especially for analyzing sentiment analysis in social media reviews. Most existingsentiment analysis systems focus on English, leaving a significant research gap in other languages due to limitedresources and tools. This research aims to address this gap by building a sentiment lexicon for local languages,which is then used with a machine learning algorithm for efficient sentiment analysis. In the first step, a lexiconis developed that includes five languages: Urdu, Roman Urdu, Pashto, Roman Pashto, and English. The sentimentscores from SentiWordNet are associated with each word in the lexicon to produce an effective sentiment score. Inthe second step, a naive Bayesian algorithm is applied to the developed lexicon for efficient sentiment analysis ofRoman Pashto. Both the sentiment lexicon and sentiment analysis steps were evaluated using information retrievalmetrics, with an accuracy score of 0.89 for the sentiment lexicon and 0.83 for the sentiment analysis. The resultsshowcase the potential for improving software engineering tasks related to user feedback analysis and productdevelopment.

Spectrum of venous thromboembolism in adult patients with ulcerative colitis in Pakistan:A single center retrospective study

BACKGROUND Patients with inflammatory bowel disease are at a 2-8-fold higher risk of deve-loping venous thromboembolism(VTE)as compared to the general *** the exact pathogenesis is unclear,the literature suggests that increased risk of thromboembolic events in such patients occurs as a result of increased coagulation factors,inflammatory cytokines,and reduction in anticoagulants leading to a prothrombotic *** To assess the prevalence,risk factors,management,and outcome of ulcerative colitis(UC)patients who develop *** This was a retrospective chart review done in The Gastroenterology Department of The Aga khan University *** was collected from medical records for all patients admitted with a diagnosis of UC from January 2012 to December *** Seventy-four patients fulfilled the inclusion *** mean±SD of age at presentation of all UC patients was 45 years±10 years whereas for those who developed VTE,it was 47.6 years±14.7 *** and diabetes were the most common co-morbid seen among UC patients with a frequency of 17(22.9%)and 12(16.2%),respectively.A total of 5(6.7%)patients developed *** venous thrombosis was the most common thromboembolic phenomenon seen in 3(60%)*** the patients with UC and concomitant VTE were discharged home(5;100%).CONCLUSION The prevalence of VTE with UC in Pakistani patients corresponds with the international ***,multi-centric studies are required to further explore these results.

N-Body Simulation Inspired by Metaheuristics Optimization

The N-body problem in classical physics, is the calculation of force ofgravitational attraction of heavenly bodies towards each other. Solving this problem for many heavenly bodies has always posed a challenge to physicists andmathematicians. Large number of bodies, huge masses, long distances and exponentially increasing number of equations of motion of the bodies have been themajor hurdles in solving this problem for large and complex galaxies. Adventof high performance computational machines have mitigated the problem to muchextent, but still for large number of bodies it consumes huge amount of resourcesand days for computation. Conventional algorithms have been able to reduce thecomputational complexity from O n2 ð Þ to O nlogn ð Þ by splitting the space into atree or mesh network, researchers are still looking for improvements. In thisresearch work we propose a novel solution to N-body problem inspired by metaheuristics algorithms. The proposed algorithm is simulated for various time periods of selected heavenly bodies and analyzed for speed and accuracy. Theresults are compared with that of conventional algorithms. The outcomes showabout 50% time saving with almost no loss in accuracy. The proposed approachbeing a metaheuristics optimization technique, attempts to find optimal solution tothe problem, searching the entire space in a unique and efficient manner in a verylimited amount of time.

Demonstration of synaptic and resistive switching characteristics in W/TiO_(2)/HfO_(2)/TaN memristor crossbar array for bioinspired neuromorphic computing

In this study,resistive random-access memory(RRAM)-based crossbar arrays with a memristor W/TiO_(2)/HfO_(2)/TaN structure were fabricated through atomic layer deposition(ALD)to investigate synaptic plasticity and resistive switching(RS)characteristics for bioinspired neuromorphic computing.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)was employed to explore oxygen vacancy concentrations in bilayer TiO_(2)/HfO_(2)*** fitting for O1s peaks confirmed that the HfO_(2)layer contained a larger number of oxygen vacancies than the TiO_(2)*** addition,HfO_(2)had lower Gibbs free energy(ΔG°=-1010.8 kJ/mol)than the TiO_(2)layer(ΔG°=-924.0 kJ/mol),resulting in more oxygen vacancies in the HfO_(2)*** results andΔG°magnitudes confirmed that formation/disruption of oxygen-based conductive filaments took place in the TiO_(2)*** W/TiO_(2)/HfO_(2)/TaN memristive device exhibited excellent and repeatable RS characteristics,including superb 10^(3) dc switching cycles,outstanding 107 pulse endurance,and high-thermal stability(10^(4) s at 125℃)important for digital computing ***,some essential biological synaptic characteristics such as potentiation-depression plasticity,paired-pulse facilitation(PPF),and spike-timing-dependent plasticity(STDP,asymmetric Hebbian and asymmetric anti-Hebbian)were successfully mimicked herein using the crossbar-array memristive *** on experimental results,a migration and diffusion of oxygen vacancy based physical model is proposed to describe the synaptic plasticity and RS *** study demonstrates that the proposed W/TiO_(2)/HfO_(2)/TaN memristor crossbar-array has a significant potential for applications in non-volatile memory(NVM)and bioinspired neuromorphic systems.

Influence of alkaline treatment and fiber loading on the physical and mechanical properties of kenaf/polypropylene composites for variety of applications

Due to current trend and increasing interest towards natural based fiber products, Kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus)fibers have been used for the developments of many products. Therefore, Kenaf fiber-reinforced composites have been widely used in engineering and industrial applications. The present work deals with the fabricating and characterization of untreated and treated kenaf/polypropylene(PP)-reinforced composites. Composites of PP reinforced with treated and untreated kenaf fibers were fabricated using the injection molding *** fiber loadings of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 wt% treated and untreated kenaf composites were also prepared. Xray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA) were performed on the treated, untreated kenaf fibers and kenaf/PP composites. Moreover, the alkaline-treated kenaf composites exhibit better physical, morphological, and mechanical properties because of the compatibility of kenaf with PP. However, variations in tensile and flexural properties depend on treatment and kenaf fiber contents. The percentage increase in the mechanical properties of the treated kenaf/PP composites relative to that of PP was also measured. In addition, 40 wt%kenaf fiber loading resulted in higher mechanical properties. By contrast, kenaf/PP composite with 50% fiber loading was not successfully prepared because of improper mixing and the burning of kenaf fibers in the PP matrix. To conclude, 40% kenaf/PP composites with superior physical and mechanical properties may be used in variety of applications such as automotive, sports, construction, animal bedding, and mass production industries.

Controlled multilevel switching and artificial synapse characteristics in transparent HfAlO-alloy based memristor with embedded TaN nanoparticles

Atomic layer deposition technique has been used to prepare tantalum nitride nanoparticles(TaN-NPs)and sandwiched between Al-doped HfO;layers to achieve ITO/HfAlO/TaN-NP/HfAlO/ITO RRAM *** electron microscopy along with energy dispersive spectroscopy confirms the presence of TaN-NPs.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggests that part of Ta N converted to tantalum oxynitride(TaO_(x)N_(y))which plays an important role in stable cycle-to-cycle resistive *** trapping and oxygen vacancy creation were found to be modified after the inclusion of Ta N-NPs inside RRAM ***,HfAlO/TaO_(x)N_(y)interface due to the presence TaN-NPs improves the device-to-device switching reliability by reducing the probability of random rupture/formation of conductive filaments(CFs).DC endurance of more than 10^(3)cycles and memory data retention up to 10^(4)s was achieved with an insignificant variation of different resistance *** conductance was attained by controlling RESET voltage with stable data retention in multiple *** volatile threshold switching was monitored after controlling the CF forming at 200 nA current compliance with high selectivity of~10^(3).Synaptic learning behavior has been demonstrated by spike-rate-dependent plasticity(SRDP).Reliable potentiation and depression processes were observed after the application of suitable negative and positive pulses which shows the capability of the TaN–NPs based RRAM device for transparent synaptic devices.

Optimizing the thickness of Ta_(2)O_(5) interfacial barrier layer to limit the oxidization of Ta ohmic interface and ZrO_(2) switching layer for multilevel data storage

The multilevel storage capability of nonvolatile resistive random access memory(ReRAM)is greatly de-sired to accomplish high functioning memory *** this study,Ta_(2)O_(5) thin film with different thick-nesses(2,4,and 6 nm)was exploited as an appropriate interfacial barrier layer for limiting the formation of the interfacial layer between the 10 nm thick sputtering deposited resistive switching(RS)layer and Ta ohmic electrode to improve the switching cycle endurance and *** show that lower form-ing voltage,narrow distribution of SET-voltages,good dc switching cycles(10^(3)),high pulse endurance(10^(6) cycles),long retention time(10^(4) s at room temperature and 100℃),and reliable multilevel resis-tance states were obtained at an appropriate thickness of∼2 nm Ta_(2)O_(5) interfacial barrier layer instead of without Ta_(2)O_(5) and with∼4 nm,and∼6 nm Ta_(2)O_(5) barrier layer,ZrO_(2)-based memristive ***,multilevel resistance states have been scientifically investigated via modulating the compliance current(CC)and RESET-stop voltages,which displays that all of the resistance states were distinct and stayed stable without any considerable deprivation over 10^(4) s retention time and 104 pulse endurance *** I-V characteristics of RESET-stop voltage(from−1.7 to−2.3 V)of HRS are found to be a good linear fit with the Schottky *** can be seen that Schottky barrier height rises by increasing the stop-voltage during RESET-operation,resulting in enhancing the data storage memory window(on/offratio).Moreover,RESET-voltage and CC control of HRS and LRS revealed the physical origin of the RS mecha-nism,which entails the formation and rupture of conducting *** is thoroughly investigated that proper optimization of the barrier layer at the ohmic interface and the switching layer is essential in memristive *** results demonstrate that the ZrO_(2)-based memristive device with an optimized∼2 nm Ta_(2)O_(5) barrier

Implementation of natural hand gestures in holograms for 3D object manipulation

Holograms provide a characteristic manner to display and convey information, and have been improved to provide better user interactions Holographic interactions are important as they improve user interactions with virtual objects. Gesture interaction is a recent research topic, as it allows users to use their bare hands to directly interact with the hologram. However, it remains unclear whether real hand gestures are well suited for hologram applications. Therefore, we discuss the development process and implementation of three-dimensional object manipulation using natural hand gestures in a hologram. We describe the design and development process for hologram applications and its integration with real hand gesture interactions as initial findings. Experimental results from Nasa TLX form are discussed. Based on the findings, we actualize the user interactions in the hologram.
