A survey on coral bleaching was carried out at Agatti Island of Lakshadweep from May to June *** sea surface temperatures(SSTs)of the region exceeded the seasonal average and delayed the onset of monsoon,which triggered widespread bleaching of *** Agatti reefs showed an average of 73%bleached corals with apparent bleaching-related mortality of sea anemones(87%)and giant clams(83%).The SST increased up to 34℃with an average maximum SST of 32.5℃ during the study period between May and June *** reefs on the southern side of the island are fully or partially exposed to sun light during low tide in contrast to the other *** suggests that the mortality is more likely due to the low tide exposure than exclusively due to the elevated *** indicated a clear increase in coral bleaching during April 2010,at levels higher than that in normal summer.

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular outcome trials have demonstrated cardiovascular safety of glimepiride(a sulfonylureas) against dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor ***(another newer sulfonylureas) has shown similar glycemic efficacy and 50% decreased risk of hypoglycemia compared to *** Considering the absence of cardiovascular outcome trials for gliclazide, we decided to conduct a systematic review of the literature to assess the cardiovascular(CV) safety by assessing the risk for major adverse CV events and hypoglycemia risk of gliclazide vs linagliptin in patients with type 2 diabetes(T2D).METHODS This systematic review followed the current Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines to analyze all the clinical studies published from 2008 that compared the two drugs in patients with T2D with no risk of CV disease(CVD). We included only evidence designated high quality by the Oxford Center for Evidence-based Medicine-Levels of *** Eight clinical studies were included in the narrative descriptive analysis(gliclazide: 5 and linagliptin: 3). The CV safety of gliclazide in the Action in Diabetes and Vascular Disease: Preterax and Diamicron Modified Release Controlled Evaluation trial and of linagliptin in the Cardiovascular and Renal Microvascular Outcome Study With Linagliptin(CARMELINA) and CARdiovascular Outcome study of LINAgliptin vs glimepiride in patients with T2D(CAROLINA)trials were excluded from the comparative analysis as these trials demonstrated CV and hypoglycemia benefits in patients at high risk of CVD. However, since these are landmark trials,they were discussed in brief to show the CV benefits and low hypoglycemia risk of gliclazide and linagliptin. QTL analysis for some quantitative traits in bread wheat

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis was conducted in bread wheat for 14 important traits utilizing data from four different mapping populations involving different approaches of QTL analysis. Analysis for grain protein content (GPC) sug- gested that the major part of genetic variation for this trait is due to environmental interactions. In contrast, pre-harvest sprouting tolerance (PHST) was controlled mainly by main effect QTL (M-QTL) with very little genetic variation due to environmental interactions; a major QTL for PHST was detected on chromosome arm 3AL. For grain weight, one QTL each was detected on chromosome arms 1AS, 2BS and 7AS. QTL for 4 growth related traits taken together detected by different methods ranged from 37 to 40; nine QTL that were detected by single-locus as well as two-locus analyses were all M-QTL. Similarly, single-locus and two-locus QTL analyses for seven yield and yield contributing traits in two populations respectively allowed detection of 25 and 50 QTL by composite interval mapping (CIM), 16 and 25 QTL by multiple-trait composite interval mapping (MCIM) and 38 and 37 QTL by two-locus analyses. These studies should prove useful in QTL cloning and wheat improvement through marker aided selection.

An easy and rapid method for the α-bromination of ketones using N-bromosuccinimide （NBS） catalyzed by silica gel in methanol under reflux conditions was developed. The expected products were formed in excellent isolated yields within a short period of time （5-20 min）. Major advantages of the present procedure include use of inexpensive and readily available catalyst, exclusion of pre- and post-chemical treatment of catalyst and use of methanol as solvent instead of ethers and chlorinated solvents.

Rett syndrome(RTT)is a rare X-linked brain disorder predominantly in females,caused by mutations in Methyl-CpGBinding Protein2(MECP2)gene with the characteristic features of progressive developmental delay,severe intellectual disability,microcephaly,retarded growth,loss of communication abilities,loss of purposeful hand movements,abnormal walking or gait abnormalities,repetitive hand movements,abnormal breathing,irritability and abnormal behaviours.1 Over the last five years,more than eighty genes related to RTT were found using next generation sequencing.2 Here we presented a comprehensive clinical report of a 38-year-old RTT woman having de novo heterozygous Laminin Subunit Gamma 3 gene(LAMC3)mutation G>A(Chr9:133944387;p.C947Y)links with RTT neurological dysfunctions,brain malformations,reduced brain volume and hypoplasia of corpus *** new finding supports the possibility of targeting LAMC3 gene for rescuing the neuropathology of *** deleterious mutations found in genes such as,CACNA1B(rs4422842),CUBN(rs2271460),GPATCH3(rs779537923),TUBB1(rs463312),KCNJ5(rs768906222),VWA5A(rs551469534),DNAAF1(rs751148678),and PARP1(rs3219145)were unreported in RTT patients.

OBJECTIVE： Tephrosia purpurea （Linn.） Pers. is widely used in traditional medicine to treat liver disorders, febrile attacks, enlargement and obstruction of liver, spleen, and kidney. In the present study investigations were carried out to determine the seasonal impact on the content of flavonoid glycosides and on antioxidant activities so as to identify the optimal time of harvesting. METHODS： The plant materials were collected in different seasons during 2013-2014. Air-dried, powdered plant materials were extracted with 95% ethanol and ethanol：water （1：1 ） by ultrasound-assisted extraction process. Their chemical composition in terms of total polyphenol and flavonoid contents （TPCs and TFCs） was determined using modified colorimetric Folin-Ciocalteu method and aluminum chloride colorimetric assay respectively. To determine the in vitro antioxidant activity, diphenyl-picryl hydrazyl （DPPH） radical-scavenging assay and total antioxidant capacity by phosphomolybdate antioxidant assay were carried out. High-performance liquid chromatography （HPLC）/photo-diode array （PDA） analysis was used to quantify the flavonoid glycosides in the samples collected in different seasons. Correlation studies were also carried out between antioxidant activities and TPCs. RESULTS： The highest TPC and TFC were found to be in the 95% ethanolic extract of the August sample and the lowest in the 50% hydro-alcoholic extract of the plant sample collected in winter season. It was observed that in both the assays used to determine the antioxidant activity, the 95% ethanolic extracts in all the seasons showed a higher activity than their respective 50% hydro- alcoholic extracts with an increase in activity as we go from cold to hot to rainy seasons. Based on correlation analysis, DPPH radical-scavenging activities as well as the spectrophotometrically measured phosphomolybdenum complex were also strongly correlated with TPC of the extracts, The most abundant flavonoid glycoside was quercetin-3-O-

Optimization of Threshold Ranges for Rapid Flood Inundation Mapping by Evaluating Backscatter Profiles of High Incidence Angle SAR Images

Rapid satellite-based flood inundation mapping and delivery of flood inundation maps during a flood event can provide crucial information for planners and decision makers to prioritize relief and rescue operations. The present study is undertaken to optimize the threshold ranges for the classification of flood water in Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images(of 20° to 49° incidence angles) for quick flood inundation mapping and response during flood disasters. This is done through assessing the signature of flood water in Horizontal transmit and Horizontal received(HH), Horizontal transmit and Vertical received(HV), Vertical transmit and Horizontal received(VH), and Vertical transmit and Vertical received(VV) polarization radar data. The mean backscattering signature profiles of various water bodies were analyzed to discriminate flood water from other water bodies. The study shows that there is better demarcation of land-water surface in HH polarization. VV polarization has the potential to identify partially submerged features, which can be useful in flood damage assessments. The backscatter of flood water in HV and VH is the same and both HV and VH polarizations are adequate for the mapping of flood water. At near range to far range,-8 to-12 d B,-15 to-24 d B, and-6 to-15 d B can be used as optimum ranges for the classification of flood water in HH, HV, and VV polarizations. These optimum threshold ranges can be applied to the automation of flood mapping using SAR images in near-real time, where much time was often spent on finding the thresholds in order to produce flood inundation maps in a short time from the onset of flood disasters and deliver such maps to the concerned agencies.

Canopy gaps play a significant role in maintaining structure and composition of tropical forests. This study was carried out in tropical evergreen forests of central Western Ghats in India to understand the influence of canopy gap size and the relationship of gap regime attributes to diversity measures and regeneration. The average gap size in the study area was found to be 396 m2 and around half of gaps were 4–8 years old. Gaps created by natural single tree fall were smaller in size but significantly higher in number. Diversity and regeneration of woody species were compared with canopy gaps and intact vegetation. Species richness and diversity was higher in gaps than in intact vegetation. Macaranga peltata, a shade intolerant species dominated gaps while intact vegetation was dominated by shade tolerant Kingiodendron *** size significantly influenced species diversity and regeneration. Gap area and age were significantly and negatively correlated with diversity measures but positively correlated with regeneration. Among all the attributes of gaps, regeneration was significantly positively correlated with light intensity. Gaps maintained species diversity and favored regeneration of woody species. In addition to gap size and age, other gap ecological attributes also affected species diversity and regeneration.

The displacement of spleen from its normal location to other places is known as wandering spleen(WS)and is a rare *** repeated torsion of WS is due to the presence of long pedicle and absence/laxity of anchoring ligaments.A WS is an extremely rare cause of left-sided portal hypertension(PHT)and severe gastric variceal ***-sided PHT usually occurs as a result of splenic vein occlusion caused by splenic torsion,extrinsic compression of the splenic pedicle by enlarged spleen,and splenic vein *** is a paucity of data on WSrelated PHT,and these data are mostly in the form of case *** this review,we have analyzed the data of 20 reported cases of WS-related *** mechanisms of pathogenesis,clinico-demographic profile,and clinical implications are described in this *** majority of patients were diagnosed in the second to third decade of life(mean age:26 years),with a strong female preponderance(M:F=1:9).Eleven of the 20 WS patients with left-sided PHT presented with abdominal pain and *** 6 of the 11 patients,varices were detected incidentally on preoperative imaging studies or discovered ***,pre-operative search for varices is required in patients with splenic torsion.
