Lightweight deep convolutional neural networks(CNNs)present a good solution to achieve fast and accurate image-guided diagnostic procedures of COVID-19 ***,advantages of portable Ultrasound(US)imaging such as simplicity and safe procedures have attracted many radiologists for scanning suspected COVID-19 *** this paper,a new framework of lightweight deep learning classifiers,namely COVID-LWNet is proposed to identify COVID-19 and pneumonia abnormalities in US *** to traditional deep learning models,lightweight CNNs showed significant performance of real-time vision applications by using mobile devices with limited hardware *** main lightweight deep learning models,namely MobileNets,ShuffleNets,MENet and MnasNet have been proposed to identify the health status of lungs using US *** image dataset(POCUS)was used to validate our proposed COVID-LWNet framework *** classes of infectious COVID-19,bacterial pneumonia,and the healthy lung were investigated in this *** results showed that the performance of our proposed MnasNet classifier achieved the best accuracy score and shortest training time of 99.0%and 647.0 s,*** paper demonstrates the feasibility of using our proposed COVID-LWNet framework as a new mobilebased radiological tool for clinical diagnosis of COVID-19 and other lung diseases.

Blind Modulation Recognition in Wireless MC-CDMA Systems Using a Support Vector Machine Classifier

Automatic Digital Modulation Recognition (ADMR) is becoming an interesting problem with various civil and military applications. In this paper, an ADMR algorithm in Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems using Discrete Transforms (DTs) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) is proposed. This algorithm uses various DT techniques such as the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Sine Transform (DST) with MFCCs to extract features from the modulated signal and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) to classify the modulation orders. The proposed algorithm avoids over fitting and local optimal problems that appear in Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Simulation results shows the classifier is capable of recognizing the modulation scheme with high accuracy up to 90% - 100% using DWT, DCT and DST for some modulation schemes over a wide Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) range in the presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channel, particularly at a low Signal-to-Noise ratios (SNRs).

Evaluation the Possibility of Using of miRNA-21 as a Prognostic and Predictive Factor in Colorectal Cancer (South Egypt Experience)

Background: Micro RNA 21?(miRNA-21) is overexpressed in numerous solid types of tumors, indicating that its biology is relevant to numerous types of cancer. However,?in Colorectal Cancer (CRC)?there is a lot of studies?confirmed its use as diagnostic marker, other studies suggested it could be used as a predictive marker for 5 Fu sensitivity so this study was conducted to verified the significance of using miRNA-21 as a prognostic and predictive factor in CRC. Patients and Methods: It is a prospective study that included 45 patients with stage I-IV CRC who attended at South Egypt Cancer Institute from April 2017 to October 2018.?miRNA-21 was measured by (q PCR) from peripheral blood.?Response to 5-FU containing regimens was assessed using RECIST?criteria and its levels of expression were correlated to the clincopathological data,?response and survival of the patients.?Results:?High expression of the miRNA21 was significantly associated with advanced stage of CRC p ?0.001,?Lymph Node (LN)?invasion p ?0.001,distant metastasis p??0.01 lymphovascular (LVI) invasion p ?0.01 and pre-treatment level of Carcino?Embryonic Antigen (CEA) p ?0.031. Also we found that high expression level significantly badly affected the response to 5-Fu containing regimen p ?0.001, DFS p ?0.01.?Conclusion:?miRNA-21 could be used as non-invasive prognostic and predictive marker in CRC.

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a common pediatric malignant neoplasia, showed high relapse rate after induction therapy. Some miRNAs have been shown to regulate normal hematopoiesis and their disruption could contribute to leukemogenesis: Recently, specific miRNA, including miR-181a, was shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of ALL, serving as a biomarker for diagnosis and relapse of ALL. Aim of the Study: To evaluate miR-181a expression level as a predictive marker for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Patients and Methods: 40 pediatric ALL patients were included in this study. miR-181a expression was assessed at diagnosis before start of treatment. Samples were either peripheral blood or bone marrow aspirate sample. Patients were evaluated clinically and laboratory after the induction therapy.

The Usefulness of Diffusion Weighted and Contrast Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Characterization of Inconclusive Ovarian Mass

Introduction: Ovarian cancer is the commonest reason for death in females due to gynecologic malignancy around the world. In contrast to other gynecologic tumours, the definitive diagnosis is accomplished days after of the index surgery by the histopathology. Preoperative assessment based on conventional MRI is not accurate. Information is expanding increasing about the ability of new MRI modalities to assess ovarian mass. Aim of the study: To assess the ability of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE–MRI), and Diffusion-weighted image (DWI) to describe uncertain ovarian masses. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study. Patients were referred from radio-diagnosis department and gynecology department of Qena faculty of medicine hospitals, South Valley University. Patients had uncertain adnexal masses at ultrasound. Magnetic resonance examination was doneutilizing 1.5 Tesla machine. The protocol included T1WI, T2WI, T1WI following contrast, and DWI. Results: We included 44 patients with different forms of complex cystic and solid ovarian masses. The final pathology of the ovarian masses was 18 benign, 4 borderline, and 22 malignant. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy for DWI were 100%, 94.4%, 96.3%, 100%, and 97.7% respectively. The performance of DWI was higher than the conventional MRI and DCE-MRI. Conclusion: DCE-MRI and DWI have accepted ability to recognize malignant ovarian mass.

Purpose:Sepsis is a common acute life-threatening condition that emergency physicians routinely *** options within the Emergency Department(ED)are limited due to lack of infrastructure,consequently limiting the use of invasive hemodynamic monitoring or imaging *** mortality rate due to sepsis can be assessed via multiple scoring systems,for example,mortality in emergency department sepsis(MEDS)score and sepsis patient evaluation in the emergency department(SPEED)score,both of which quantify the variation of mortality rates according to clinical findings,laboratory data,or therapeutic *** study aims to improve the management processes of sepsis patients by comparing SPEED score and MEDS score for predicting the 28-day mortality in cases of emergency ***:The study is a cross-sectional,prospective study including 61 sepsis patients in ED in Suez Canal University Hospital,Egypt,from August 2017 to June *** were selected by two steps:(1)suspected septic patients presenting with at least one of the following abnormal clinical findings:(a)body temperature higher than 38℃ or lower than 36℃,(b)heart rate higher than 90 beats/min,(c)hyperventilation evidenced by respiratory rate higher than 20 breaths/min or PaCO2 lower than 32 mmHg,and(d)white blood cell count higher than 12,000/μL or lower than 4000/μL;(2)confirmed septic patients with at least a 2-point increase from the baseline total sequential organ failure assessment(SOFA)score following *** inclusion criteria included adult patients with an age≥18 years regardless of gender and those who had either systemic inflammatory response syndrome or suspected/confirmed *** were shortly follow-up for the 28-day *** patient was subject to SPEED score and MEDS score and then the results were compared to detect which of them was more effective in predicting *** receiver operating characteristic curves were also done for MEDS and SPE

Ki-67 immunohistochemical expression in mandibular ameloblastoma: A prognostic indicator for local recurrence

Objective: This study used Ki-67 to evaluate the proliferative activity of ameloblastoma in an attempt to provide a scientific basis for any differences in the biologic behaviour that exists between the different types of ameloblastoma and correlate the results with the recurrence rate. Study design: We assessed Ki-67 expression by immunohistochemistry in 32 cases of mandibular ameloblastoma. Formalin-fixed, paraffinembedded blocks were sectioned and used for Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) staining. H&E slides were used to re-evaluate the histological types of the ameloblastoma. Immunohistochemical analysis for Ki-67 with a labelled streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase complex technique was performed on tumour sections using Monoclonal Mouse Anti-Human Ki-67 Antigen (clones MIB1, code M7240, Dako Corporation). Lymph nodes (lymphoma) were used as positive control for Ki-67. Results: The specimens comprised 18 cases of Follicular ameloblastoma, 7 cases of Cystic ameloblastoma, 4 cases of plexiform ameloblastoma, and 3 cases of Acanthotic ameloblastoma. The results showed that cellular proliferative activity varied within the ameloblastoma types. There was no statistically significant difference in the Ki-67 Acanthotic, cystic and follicular types of ameloblastoma, while plexiform type showed statistically significantly higher levels than the other 3 types. The mean Ki-67 labelling index of plexiform ameloblastoma ranged from 13 to 30 with a mean of 19.75. The mean values of Ki-67 were statistically significantly higher in recurrent than?non-recurrent cases. Conclusion: The significant expression of Ki-67 could provide useful prognostic markers for proliferative activity and good prognostic indicators for recurrence rate of mandibular ameloblastoma.

Characterization of Egyptian Manganese Ores for Production of High Carbon Ferromanganese

This work aims at studying the reactivity of Egyptian manganese ores to be used in the production of ferromanganese alloys in submerged electric arc furnace. Ores with different manganese content (high-medium and low) were selected and characterized by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron Microscope (SEM). The main mineralogical compositions in the three ores are pyrolusite (MnO2) and hematite (Fe2O3). Porosity of selected Mn ores was determined. The reactivity of the different ores was carried out through pre-reduction of the selected ores using thermobalance at 900°C and 1100°C and mixture of CO and CO2 gases. The reduction process was done until steady weight. The reduced ores were examined using XRD and SEM. The results showed that pyrolusite in high and medium ores are converted completely to MnO at 1100°C. However, the ore with low manganese content was converted to MnO and Mn3O4. Consequently, it is clear from the results that Mn ores with high and medium MnO2 content are more reactive than those with low MnO2. Therefore, high MnO2 content Mn ores are preferable to get good economic impact during the production of high carbon ferromanganese.

Pentacam changes in primary angle-closure glaucoma after different lines of treatment

AIM: To assess the changes in the anterior chamber parameters using Pentacam following four different lines of treatment of primary angle-closure glaucoma(PACG).METHODS: A retrospective comparative study included 126 patients(126 eye) presented within 24-48 h after acute angle-closure glaucoma(AACG). Patients were divided into 2 groups: group A(68 eyes) with controlled intraocular pressure(IOP) ≤21 mm Hg, which included subgroup A1(34 eyes) with clear lens underwent Nd:YAG laser peripheral iridotomy(LPI) and subgroup A2(34 eyes) with cataract underwent standard phacoemulsification;and group B(58 eyes) with uncontrolled IOP, which included subgroup B1(30 eyes) with clear lens underwent trabeculectomy and subgroup B2(28 eyes) with cataract underwent combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy. Patients were fol owed up for at least 3 mo. Primary outcomes were Pentacam anterior segment measurements [anterior chamber angle(ACA) and depth(ACD)]. Secondary outcomes were changes in IOP, visual acuity(VA) and recorded complications. RESULTS: At the 3^(rd)month, there was significant increase in the ACA values in all studied groups compared to preoperative values(Peline values(Pely).
