Evaluation of total phenols,total flavonoids and antioxidant activity of the leaves crude extracts of locally grown pigeon pea traditionally used in sultanate of Oman for the treatment of jaundice and diabetes

Objective:To determine the total phenols,total flavonoids and evaluate the antioxidant activity of crude extracts from the leaves of pigeon pea native to sultanate of Oman by a popular ***:The powdered leaves samples from pigeon pea were used for extraction by maceration method with methanol *** methanol free crude extract by maceration method was suspended in water and successively extracted with different polarities of *** obtained crude extracts with different polarities were used for the determination of total phenols and flavonoids contents by using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and aluminum chloride *** antioxidant activity of six crude extracts from pigeon pea was determined byα,αα-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl ***:The different polarities leaves crude extracts showed a significant amount of total phenols content ranging from 97.80 to 256.00 mg of GAE/g of crude *** same leaves crude extracts also showed good amount of total flavonoids content ranging from 1.38 to 8.51 mg QE/g plant *** six crude extracts from the leaves displayed significantα,αα-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity with highest value in chloroform extract followed by methanol,butanol,ethyl acetate,hexane and water crude extracts(98.13%,89.26%,88.82%,86.41%,79.95%and 69.44%,respectively).Conclusions:Leaves crude extracts from pigeon pea have high contents of total phenols and *** this regards,it could be used as a medicine for the treatment of different diseases.

Objective:To isolate and analyse the chemical composition in the essential oils and free radical scavenging activity of different crude extracts from the fresh and dry leaves of vegetable plants of Lactuca sativa L.(***).Methods:The essential oils and volatile chemical constituents were isolated from the fresh and dry leaves of ***(lettuce)grown in sultanate of Oman by hydro distillation *** antioxidant activity of the crude extracts was carried out by well established free radical scavenging activity(DPPH)***:About 20 chemical compounds of different concentration representing 83.07%and 79.88%respectively were isolated and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy in the essential oils isolated from the fresh and dry leaves asα-pinene(5.11%and 4.05%).γ-cymene(2.07%and 1.92%),thymol(11.55%and 10.73%),durenol(52.00%and 49.79%),α-terpinene(1.66%and 1.34%),thymol acetate(0.99%and 0.67%),caryophyllene(2.11%and 1.98%),spathulenol(3.09%and 2.98%).camphene(4.11%and3.65%),limonene(1.28%and 1.11%)representing these major chemical ***,some other minor chemical constituents were also isolated and identified from the essential oil of lettuce including p-pinene,α-terpinolene,linalool,4-terpineol,α-terpineol,o-methylthymol,L-alloaromadendrene and ***:The chemical consliluents in the essential oils from the locally grown lettuce were identified in the following classes or groups of chemical compounds such as monoterpenes,sesquiterpenes volatile organic compounds and their oxygenated ***,the essential oils and the crude extracts from Omani vegetable species of lettuce are active candidates which would be used as antioxidant,antifungal or antimicrobial agents in new drugs preparation for therapy of infectious diseases.

Sustainable Fly Ash Based Roof Tiles with Waste Polythene Fibre: An Experimental Study

The compressive stress-strain behavior and other characteristics of treated fly ash based roof tiles have been studied by several experimental tests. This paper attempts to presents the results and observations of a study and comparison based on the past reported experimental data. Based on the results and observations of the comprehensive experimental study, five “control points” have been identified. The new sets of experiment have been carried out to investigate whether it might be possible the use of fly ash in fly ash based roof tiles for residential construction. In the present study, treated fly ash (TFA) of C category was used with different materials as a replacement of clay for making treated fly ash stone dust roof tiles (TFASDRT). Treated fly ash stone dust roof tiles (TFASDRT) were studied at varying percentages of cement, coarse sand, and radish stone dust (RSD) along with the constant percentage of waste polythene fibre (WPF). A research program was undertaken to evaluate the suitability of such test for assessing the properties of treated fly ash stone dust roof tiles (TFASDRT). The result of this study recommends that the fly ash based roof tiles provides a sustainable supplement to the traditional clay roof tiles, they increase the efficiency of traditional roof tiles and significantly help to reduce the environmental issues associated with the disposal of these waste materials.

The Consequence of Particle Crushing in Engineering Properties of Granular Materials

This paper presents experimental investigation for particles breakage for natural sand. The particle breakage was induced by subjecting the sample to one dimensional compression. Grain size analyses were performed before and after induced breakage. Thereafter, the sand shear strength parameters were assessed using direct shear box tests and the coefficient of permeability was assessed using constant head permeameter. Examining the obtained results revealed that the amount of breakage due to one dimensional compression was of order higher than the amount occurring during direct shear test. Peak shear strength parameters decreased with the particles breakage increasing. Moreover, dilation angle of shear strength pronouncedly decreases with the amount of particles breakage increasing. Crushing has obvious effect on the evaluated coefficient of permeability.

Objective:To observe the effect of temperature and extraction process on the estimation of antioxidant activity of various organic crude extracts from the leaves of Thymus vulgaris(***)species native to sultanate of ***:The dry powder samples of *** were extracted with methanol using two different extraction *** methanol crude extracts from the leaves of *** were defatted with water and extracted successively with different polarities of solvents with increasing polarities,e.g.,hexane,ethyl acetate,chloroform and ***:The yield of methanol crude extract by Soxhlet extraction method is better than maceration *** yield of extraction was increasing with increasing *** antioxidant activity of different crude extracts from both extraction methods was measured by DPPH with *** Soxhlet extraction method,the activity result found in butanol crude extracts was highest and the lowest in hexane crude extract as the following order of butanol>methanol>ethyl acetate extract>chloroform>hexane ***,by maceration method,the activity was highest in ethyl acetate and lowest in chloroform as the order of ethyl aectate>methanol extract>butanol>hexane>***:In conclusion,the maceration method is the best method for the evaluation of antioxidant activity.

Objective:To determine free radical scavenging activity and active chemical ingredients of different plant crude extracts of Mentha piperita(***).Methods:The dried powder leaves of *** were extracted with polar organic solvent by Soxhlet *** crude extract and its fractions of hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate and butanol crude extracts were *** antioxidant activity of different crude extracts from *** was carried out by DPPH method with minor modification,and the active chemical ingredients of different plant crude extracts of *** were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).Results:Qualitative analysis of different polarities crude extracts by GC-MS found different types of active organic *** antioxidant activity of different crude extracts were found to be in the order of chloroform extract>butanol extract>ethyl acetate extract>hexane extract>methanol *** identified compounds in the plant crude extracts by GC-MS were biologically ***:Therefore,the isolation,purification,identification and characterization of bioactive compounds from various crude extracts of *** might have ecological significance.

Gastric antisecretory and antiulcer activity of bovine hemoglobin

AIM: To investigate gastric antisecretory and gastro- protective activity of bovine hemoglobin (B-Hb) in rats. METHODS: Adult Albino-Wistar rats were divided into groups of 6 animals each. B-Hb in doses of 100, 300 and 900 mg/kg body weight was tested for gastric acid secretion and antiulcer activity. Gastric secretions were measured 6 h after pylorus ligation in rats pretreated with B-Hb. The acidity was measured by titrating gastric contents against 0.01 mol/L NaOH to pH 7. Indomethacin ulcers were produced by oral administration of 30 mg/kg bw in the rats pretreated with B-Hb one hour before indomethacin. Six hours after indomethacin stomach removed and ulcer index was recorded. Ethanol ulcer were produced by 1 mL of ethanol in the rats pretreated with B-Hb 30 min before the *** hour after ethanol stomach were cut open to score ulcers. Histological examination and analysis of gastric wall mucus, non-protein sulfhydryl groups (NP-SH), and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were carried in gastric tissue following ethanol administration. RESULTS: In control rats pylorus ligation for 6 h resulted in the accumulation of 8.1 ± 0.61 mL of gastric secretion. The treatment of the rats with 100, 300 and 900 mg/kg of B-Hb produced a significant decrease in the volume of gastric secretion 5.6 ± 0.63, 5.5 ± 0.75 and 4.7 ± 0.58 mL respectively as compared to the control group [analysis of variance (ANOVA) F = 4.77, P < 0.05]. The lesion area in the control group was found to be 22.4 ± 3.2 mm2 six hours after the administration of indomethacin. Treatment of rats with B-Hb at doses of 100 mg/kg (24.3 ± 3.29 mm2), 300 mg/kg (16.2 ± 1.45 mm2) and 900 mg/kg (12.6 ± 1.85 mm2) produced a dose dependent decreased the lesion scores (ANOVA F = 4.50, P < 0.05). The ulcer index following one hour after 1 mL ethanol was 7.1 ± 0.31. Pretreatment of rats with B-Hb at the doses of 100 mg/kg (2.5 ± 0.42), 300 mg/kg (2.1 ± 0.4) and 900 mg/kg (0.7 ± 0.21) significantly inhibited the formation of gas
