Objective:To analyze in-vitro antimicrobial activities of some ethno-pharmacologically significant medicinal plants(methanol extract) against the pathogenic microorganisms(Escherichia coli,Salmonella spp..Bacillus *** *** niger and Candida albicans).Methods:The disc diffusion method was applied for antibacterial test and the poisoned food technique was applied for antifungal ***:The methanol extract of Terminalia chebula(bark),Fhyllanthus acidus(fruits).Sarcochlamys pulcherrima(leaves) and Abelmoschus esculcntus(fruits) had significant in vitro antibacterial activity angainst the entire test samples in comparison to standard drug *** of the plant extracts showed low activity against Gram negative bacteria while potential activity against Gram positive *** antifungal activities of methanol extracts of these plants and standard drug griseofulvin were determined against two pathogenicfungi,and Polygonum Iapathifolium(leaves) and Cinnamomum tamala(leaves) showed maximum activity,while Erioglossum rubiginosum(leaves) showed no antifungal ***:Further chemical and pharmacological investigations are required to identify and isolate chemical constituents responsible for these potential bioactivities and thus to determine their full spectrum of efficacy.

Objective:To prepare various crude extracts using different polarities of solvent and to quantitatively evaluate their total phenol,flavonoids contents and phytochemical screening of Thymus vulgaris collected from Al Jabal Al Akhdar,*** of ***:The leave sample was extracted with methanol and *** it was defatted with water and extracted with different polarities organic solvents with increasing *** prepare hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate,hutanol and methanol crude extracts were used for their evaluation of total phenol,flavonoids contents and phytochemical screening *** established conventional metliods were used for quantitative determination of total phenol,flavonoids contents and phytochemical ***:Phytochemical screening for various crude extracts were tested and shown positive result for flavonoids,saponins and steroids *** result for total phenol content was the highest in hutanol and the lowest in methanol crude extract whereas the total flavonoids contents was the highest in methanol and the lowest hexane crude ***:The crude extracts from locally grown Thymus vulgaris showed high concentration of flavonoids and it could be used as antibiotics for different curable and uncurable diseases.

Objective:To isolate and analyse the chemical composition in the essential oils and free radical scavenging activity of different crude extracts from the fresh and dry leaves of vegetable plants of Lactuca sativa L.(***).Methods:The essential oils and volatile chemical constituents were isolated from the fresh and dry leaves of ***(lettuce)grown in Sultanate of Oman by hydro distillation *** antioxidant activity of the crude extracts was carried out by well established free radical scavenging activity(DPPH)***:About 20 chemical compounds of different concentration representing 83.07%and 79.88%respectively were isolated and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy in the essential oils isolated from the fresh and dry leaves asα-pinene(5.11%and 4.05%).γ-cymene(2.07%and 1.92%),thymol(11.55%and 10.73%),durenol(52.00%and 49.79%),α-terpinene(1.66%and 1.34%),thymol acetate(0.99%and 0.67%),caryophyllene(2.11%and 1.98%),spathulenol(3.09%and 2.98%).camphene(4.11%and3.65%),limonene(1.28%and 1.11%)representing these major chemical ***,some other minor chemical constituents were also isolated and identified from the essential oil of lettuce including p-pinene,α-terpinolene,linalool,4-terpineol,α-terpineol,o-methylthymol,L-alloaromadendrene and ***:The chemical consliluents in the essential oils from the locally grown lettuce were identified in the following classes or groups of chemical compounds such as monoterpenes,sesquiterpenes volatile organic compounds and their oxygenated ***,the essential oils and the crude extracts from Omani vegetable species of lettuce are active candidates which would be used as antioxidant,antifungal or antimicrobial agents in new drugs preparation for therapy of infectious diseases.

Pancreatic pseudocyst or a cystic tumor of the pancreas?

Pancreatic pseudocysts are the most common cystic lesions of the pancreas and may complicate acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, or pancreatic trauma. While the majority of acute pseudocysts resolve spontaneously, few may require drainage. On the other hand, pancreatic cystic tumors, which usually require extirpation, may disguise as pseudocysts. Hence, the distinction between the two entities is crucial for a successful outcome. We conducted this study to highlight the fundamental differences between pancreatic pseudocysts and cystic tumors so that relevant management plans can be devised. We reviewed the data of patients with pancreatic cystic lesions that underwent intervention between June 2007 and December 2010 in our hospital. We identified 9 patients(5 males and 4 females) with a median age of 40 years(range, 30–70 years). Five patients had pseudocysts, 2 had cystic tumors, and 2 had diseases of undetermined pathology. Pancreatic pseudocysts were treated by pseudocystogastrostomy in 2 cases and percutaneous drainage in 3 cases. One case recurred after percutaneous drainage and required pseudocystogastrostomy. The true pancreatic cysts were serous cystadenoma, which was treated by distal pancreatectomy, and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, which was initially treated by drainage, like a pseudocyst, and then by distal pancreatectomy when its true nature was revealed. We conclude that every effort should be exerted to distinguish between pancreatic pseudocysts and cystic tumors of the pancreas to avoid the serious misjudgement of draining rather than extirpating a pancreatic cystic tumor. Additionally, percutaneous drainage of a pancreatic pseudocyst is a useful adjunct that may substitute for surgical drainage.

Age at first marriage and its relation to fertility in Bangladesh

The 2007 Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey(BDHS)data are exploited to examine the effects of socioeconomic and demographic factors on age at first marriage linkage to reproductive behavior of Bangladeshi *** mean age at first marriage of women is found to be 15.48 *** logistic regression technique shows that place of residence,religion,region,wealth index,education,and occupation are significantly important factors for determining age at first *** relationship between marriage and fertility suggests that women who marry at a younger age produce more children than women who marry *** of this study show that if the age at first marriage of adolescents is increased by 1 year,the age at first birth is postponed by 0.728 *** the increase in age at first marriage,the fecundability of women sharply rises,whereas the proportion of temporary sterility *** there is a positive association between age at first marriage and age-specific marital fertility rates,the total parity per woman at the end of the reproductive period is expected to reduce by 0.196 for each 1-year delayed marriage.

Zinc oxide （ZnO） has been used as heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of Acid Alizarin Black S dye （AAB） in aqueous solutions using UV light irradiation. Experiments were conducted at various operating parameters. The operating parameters were amount of catalyst （50 rag, 100 mg and 150 mg）, initial concentration of dye （30 mg/L, 50 mg/L and 70 mg/L）, the pH of solution （2, 4, 6, 8, l0 and 12） and the UV light intensity （6 watt and 12 watt）. The progress of the degradation reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically. It was found that the degradation process of AAB solution was accelerated with increased catalyst dosage and decreased initial concentration of AAB. It was also found that the removal efficiency of AAB significantly depend on pH value of solution. The results show that the degradation percent reaches the highest values with pH close to neutral. The data proved that removal percent of dye decreased when 6 watt lamp used instead of 12 watt lamp. The kinetic study confirmed that photocatalytic degradation of AAB dye follows a pseudo first order reaction rate.

Objective: To determine the synergists action of piperonyl butoxide(PBO) and S,S,Stributyl phosphorotrithioate(DEF) on toxicity of carbamate insecticides against Blattella germanica in Tehran ***: In the current study, German cockroach strains were collected from several hospitals and dormitories in *** the beginning, different concentrations of bendiocarb and carbaryl(insecticides belong to carbamate group) were determined by surface contact on a susceptible ***, the level of susceptibility and type of resistance mechanisms in the collected strains from contaminated sites to the aforementioned insecticides were studied by using PBO and DEF synergists with different insecticide ratios to synergist(1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3).Results: The DEF synergist along with bendiocarb and carbaryl completely eliminated the resistance in all strains but PBO did not completely eliminate the resistance in the strains of Mofid, Alvand, Valiasr hospitals and Shariati ***, the impact of DEF was observed in the removing resistance more than ***: In most of these strains, resistance to bendiocarb and carbaryl is completely eliminated by DEF, showing a very high role of estraze enzymes in resistance to bendiocarb and *** in most strains PBO does not remove the resistance because other mechanisms, such as reduced cuticle penetration and insensitivity to the acetylcholine esterase enzyme, may be involved.
