Fatal cases in pediatric patients after post-exposure prophylaxis for rabies:A report of two cases

Rationale:Rabies is a zoonotic disease with a high mortality,primarily transmitted through the bite of infected mammals,particularly dogs and *** being a well-known disease since ancient times,it continues to cause a significant number of human deaths worldwide,with approximately 65000 fatalities reported *** concerns:We present two fatal cases of rabies in a 12-year-old immigrant boy and a 7-year-old *** first case was subject to a 24-hour delay in receiving appropriate medical attention and rabies preventive measures due to the lack of awareness among emergency hospital staff,leading to the administration of wound dressing *** second case received timely rabies immunoglobulin administration;however,there was a 4-day delay in administering the fourth dose of the rabies vaccine,despite presenting evident symptoms of ***:Postmortem examination of brain samples from both patients confirmed the presence of rabies ***:Post-exposure prophylaxis for ***:Both patients were admitted to the hospital after the manifestation of rabies-related symptoms,with the 12-year-old child seeking medical care 47 days after the animal bite and the 7-year-old child seeking medical care 58 days after the ***,the first patient died after 27 days and the second patient died after 40 days of ***:There is an urgent need for heightened awareness and education among both healthcare professionals and the public regarding the urgency of seeking immediate medical attention after potential rabies *** recognition and initiation of post-exposure prophylaxis are pivotal in preventing the progression of the *** surveillance and reporting systems,coupled with continuous training for healthcare professionals,can contribute to early detection and management of rabies cases.

Objective:To determine the global level of knowledge,attitudes,and practices towards dengue fever among the general ***:To complete this systematic review and meta-analysis,a thorough search for pertinent English-language literature was undertaken during the study's extension until October *** search used Google Scholar,Scopus,PubMed/MEDLINE,Science Direct,Web of Science,EMBASE,Springer,and ProQuest.A quality assessment checklist developed using a modified Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for the cross-sectional study was used to evaluate the risk of bias in the included *** variance and Cochran Q statistics were employed in the STATA software version 14 to assess study *** there was heterogeneity,the Dersimonian and Liard random-effects models were ***:59 Studies totaling 87353 participants were included in this *** investigations included 86278 participants in 55 studies on knowledge,20196 in 33 studies on attitudes,and 74881 in 29 studies on *** pooled estimates for sufficient knowledge,positive attitudes,and dengue fever preventive behaviors among the general population were determined as 40.1%(95%CI 33.8%-46.5%),46.8%(95%CI 35.8%-58.9%),and 38.3%(95%CI 28.4%-48.2%),*** exhibits the highest knowledge level at 63.5%,and Africa shows the lowest at 20.3%.Positive attitudes are most prevalent in the Eastern Mediterranean(54.1%)and Southeast Asia(53.6%),contrasting sharply with the Americas,where attitudes are notably lower at 9.05%.Regarding preventive behaviors,the Americas demonstrate a prevalence of 12.1%,Southeast Asia at 28.1%,Western Pacific at 49.6%,Eastern Mediterranean at 44.8%,and Africa at 47.4%.Conclusions:Regional disparities about the knowledge,attitude and preventive bahaviors are evident with Europe exhibiting the highest knowledge level while Africa has the *** findings emphasize the importance of targeted public health interventions tailored to regional

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by monkeypox virus(MPXV).MPXV is a double-stranded DNA virus from the genus Orthopoxvirus that was firstly detected in captive monkeys in 1958[1],with first reported MPXV infected case in humans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in *** zoonotic infection has since spread and become endemic in African countries,especially in West and Central Africa[2].Human monkeypox cases were detected outside Africa in 2003,however,recent cases have not been reported in non-endemic countries until 2022[3].

Objective:To review the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis among animal population of ***:Data were systematically gathered from 1 January 2000 to 1 January 2020 in the Islamic Republic of Iran from the following electronic databases:Pub Med,Springer,Google Scholar,Science Direct,Scopus,Web of Science,Magiran,and Scientific Information Database(SID).According to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses(PRISMA)and inclusion criteria,88 eligible studies were ***:The pooled prevalence of cryptosporidiosis using random and fixed effects model according to heterogeneity among animals was as follows:rodents 18.8%(95%CI 12.6%-25.0%),camels 17.1%(95%CI 8.6%-25.7%),cattle 16.8%(95%CI 13.4%-20.1%),goats 14.1%(95%CI 5.2%-23.0%),horses 12.2%(95%CI 8.3%-16.2%),birds 10.5%(95%CI 7.6%-13.4%),sheep 9.9%(95%CI 2.4%-4.9%),cats 8.8%(95%CI 4.8%-12.8%)and dogs 3.7%(95%CI 7.0%-12.8%).Conclusions:Cryptosporidiosis has been reported and present in a wide range of animals in Iran over the years and has a high prevalence in most of these species.

Evaluation of ecological capability and land use planning for different uses of land with a new model of EMOLUP in Jahrom County,Iran

Land use planning is one of the basic principles of sustainable development in a region and in a *** main objective of this paper is to test a new model of land use planning in order to evaluate ecological suitability and prioritize different land uses in Jahrom County placed in Fars Province,*** two main steps were prepared for the new model of Eco-Socioeconomic Model of Land Use Planning(EMOLUP).Step 1 includes ecological capability evaluation of different land uses including forest,rangeland,agriculture,conservation,and *** step is composed of the geometric mean method instead of the Boolean method;and step 2 includes land use planning and prioritizing for the various uses mentioned *** step is composed of intersecting ecological capability maps and land use planning,based on two scenarios(economic and social).It was compared with qualitative and current quantitative ***,current land use is employed for calibrating and modifying the *** results of ecological suitability evaluation showed that the EMOLUP model has more accuracy in the process of comparison than other current ***,revised method using the geometric mean(with overall accuracy>72 and kappa index>0.55 for all land uses and rangeland with overall accuracy=32 and kappa index=0.02)is better than Boolean models,and the method of the calibrated geometric mean(with overall accuracy>87 and kappa index>0.73 for all land uses)is the best among different used *** should be noted that the arithmetic mean has the lowest accuracy(with overall accuracy<45 and kappa index<0.24 for all land uses).Also,the results of prioritizing and land use planning showed that the quantitative method with two socio-economic scenarios(result based on average of EPM erosion model=0.3 that means 30%of modification in whole study area land uses)is the best method for land use planning in the study area.

This study explores the role that the microstructure plays in determining the macroscopic static response of porous elastic continua and exposes the occurrence of position-dependent nonlocal effects that are strictly correlated to the configuration of the ***,a nonlocal continuum theory based on variable-order fractional calculus is developed in order to accurately capture the complex spatially distributed nonlocal *** remarkable potential of the fractional approach is illustrated by simulating the nonlinear thermoelastic response of porous *** performance,evaluated both in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency,is directly contrasted with high-fidelity finite element models that fully resolve the pores’*** indicate that the reduced-order representation of the porous microstructure,captured by the synthetic variable-order parameter,offers a robust and accurate representation of the multiscale material architecture that largely outperforms classical approaches based on the concept of average porosity.

Global land cover maps are important sources of information for a wide range of studies including land change analysis and climate change *** the global land cover maps attempt to present a consistent and homogenous data in terms of the production process,the existing datasets offer coarse resolution data,e.g.1000 m for IGBP DISCover and 300 m for GlobeCover 2009 that is oftentimes ***,GlobeLand30 data based on Landsat archive for two timestamps of 2000 and 2010 has been *** presents a finer spatial resolution of 30 m,which provides numerous opportunities for a wide range of *** main objective of this study is to use this dataset for characterizing global land cover patterns,monitoring,and identifying extreme land change cases with their types and *** findings reveal massive land change patterns including deforestation,desertification,shrinkage of water bodies,and urbanization across the *** results and discussions of this research can help policy-makers,environmental planners,ecosystem services providers and climate change researchers to gain finer insights about the forms of global land *** research calls for further investigation of the underlying causes of the massive changes and their consequences on our ecosystems and human populations.

OpenStreetMap(OSM)has seen an exponential increase in the last few years and large volumes of geodata have been received from volunteered *** collected geodata are heterogeneous in terms of different dimensions such as spatial patterns of contributions,quality,patterns of contributing individuals,and type of *** contributors’personal information is anonymously stored by the OSM administrators,alternative methods are needed to investigate the role of contributors’characteristics on their mapping *** study is intended to explore the potential socio-economic characteristics of contributors in highly contributed areas to have better insights about the latent patterns of involved individuals in a highly dynamic state of the most active country in OSM,Germany.A logistic regression model(LRM)is applied to discover the potential correlations between dependent and independent *** findings explain that the areas with high population density,middle level of education,high income,high rate of overnight stays,high number of foreigners,and residents aged from 18 to 69 are more likely to be involved in ***,the degree of dynamism in OSM is a function of proximity to built-up ***,concluding remarks concerning the independent variables and model sensitivity are presented.
