Evaluation of the effects of Alkyl Phenolic compounds on kinetic coefficients and biomass activity in MBBR by means of respirometric techniques

The presence of Alkyl Phenols(APs) in aquatic systems is considered as one of the environmental concerns in recent decades which are generally used as surfactants. APs are endocrine disruptors and estrogen-mimicking,causing harmful effects such as feminization and carcinogenesis on aquatic environment and human *** most commercially important APs are 4-Nonyl Phenol(4-NP) and 4-tert-OctylP henol(4-t-OP). Moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR), which combined attached and suspended growth advantages, is an advanced biological treatment process for municipal and industrial wastewaters that has drawn considerable attention from many researchers to remove toxic pollutants from wastewater. The aim of this research was to evaluate Bacterial activities and kinetic coefficients in the presence of APs. This study was carried out using laboratory-scale MBBR fed with synthetic wastewater containing 4-NP and 4-t-OP. The reactor was operated at different loads of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and APs and different hydraulic retention time(HRT). The respirometric technique was applied to investigate the effect of APs on heterotrophic and autotrophic activity and kinetic coefficients in biomass obtained from MBBR. Respirometric technique demonstrates a reliable tool in order to assess the biofilm kinetic coefficients and biomass viability to insert in the mathematical models. The calculated kinetic parameters were in the range of conventional and extended aeration activated sludge processes. The results demonstrate that APs have significant inhibitory effects on activity and growth rate of heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria, heterotrophs have been less affected by the presence of 4-NP and 4-t-OP, and these compounds had greater inhibitory effects on autotrophic bacteria.

The seeds of Nigella sativa Linn.(Ranunculaceae), commonly known as Black cumin, are predominantly used as carminative, antispasmodic, and stimulant. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of N. sativa seed extract on the permeation of co-infused amoxicillin across the gut wall. The methanolic extract of N. sativa improved intestinal permeability of amoxicillin in in-vitro experiments in a dose-dependent manner. Two new glycosides, decanyl nigelloic acid diglucoside [n-decanyl-3-aldehydic-4-methoxy-5-hydroxy benzoate-5-β-D-glucofuranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranoside]] and nigelabdienoyl triglucoside [homo-labd-5, 9(11)-dien-16-onyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranoside], along with seven known fatty acid glycerides/esters, were isolated from the gut permeation enhancing extract. The structures of these new glycosides were elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analyses.

Determination of 4-nonylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol compounds in various types of wastewater and their removal rates in different treatment processes in nine wastewater treatment plants of Iran

Alkylphenols(APs), considered as xenoestrogenic compounds, mainly exist as 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) and 4-tertoctylphenol(4-t-OP) in environments. The high stability and accumulation of APs in aquatic systems have caused endocrine disruption. In this study we measured APs in the wastewater influent and effluent samples, from the urban, rural, livestock, commercial and hospital wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was used for the extraction and determination of 4-NP and 4-t-OP. In these treatment plants, various processes such as activated sludge, aerated lagoon, moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge along with wetland were applied. The highest concentration of 4-NP and 4-t-OP was observed in commercial and livestock sewages. The activated sludge along with wetland and then the MBBR process showed the highest removal rates of pollutants. The rates of biodegradability and accumulation in sludge were determined and also the specific adsorption coefficient Kdand the organic carbon–water partition coefficient kOCof the sludge for APs were calculated.

Growth-regulating factors （GRFs） are plant-specific transcription factors that were originally identified for their roles in stem and leaf development, but recent studies highlight them to be similarly important for other central developmental processes including flower and seed formation, root development, and the coordination of growth processes under adverse environmental conditions. The expression of several GRFs is controlled by microRNA miR396, and the GRF-miRNA396 regulatory module appears to be central to several of these processes. In addition, transcription factors upstream of GRFs and miR396 have been discovered, and gradually downstream target genes of GRFs are being unraveled. Here, we review the current knowledge of the biological functions performed by GRFs and survey available molecular data to illustrate how they exert their roles at the cellular level.

In this study, the application of sodium bentonite(SB) in formulation of tablets prepared by direct compression for oral administration was tested. Three different model drugs with different solubilities: paracetamol, diclofenac sodium and metformin HCl were tested. Each drug was mixed with SB at ratio of 50% and the mixtures were subsequently *** studies were conducted using both Deferential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC)and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR). The dissolution profile for each drug was determined in USP-buffers at different time intervals. Diclofenac sodium in pH 6.8 buffer and paracetamol in both pH 6.8 and pH 4.5 buffers showed extended release. However,metformin HCl showed immediate release at the different pH values. The study showed that using SB was possible to prepare tablets with different release profiles. However, these profiles differ depending on dissolution media and drug type.

The hydraulic fracturing operation is highly complex in fractured *** fundamental key to a successful operation is processing and analysis of the propagation of hydraulic fracturing in a natural fracture *** this paper,the hydraulic fracturing process is evaluated in a fractured reservoir in southwest *** developing process of induced fracture in a natural fracture network is analysed by the Distinct Element Method(DEM).After determining the fluid flow regime in the natural fractures of the reservoir,hydraulic fracturing is applied along different lengths of the reservoir and in each range,the production rate is *** flow in natural fractures after the hydraulic fracturing operation is shown and evaluated in order to evaluate the induced fracture effectiveness in enhancing fluid flow regimes in the *** reverse suction phenomenon which causes changes in the fluid flow pattern in fractures and will thus affect the production rate is also studied in this *** coalescence will cause the induction of natural fractures to hydraulically fracture without their intersection;this is one of the significant parameters in hydraulic fracturing in naturally fractured reservoirs which is also discussed in *** paper can present valuable information on fluid flow analysis before and after applying hydraulic fracturing in a fractured reservoir and solve some essential ambiguities in this area.

Benzene removal by nano magnetic particles under continuous condition from aqueous solutions

Benzene removal evaluated using Fe304 nano continuous condition. A 44 initial benzene concentration, from aqueous solutions was magnetic particles （NM） in factorial design including NM dose, contact time and pH was investigated in 16 experiments （Taguchi OA design）. The results indicated that all factors were significant and the optimum condition was： pH 8, NM dose of 2000 mg.L-1, benzene concentrations of 100 mg.L-1 and contact time of 14min. The maximum benzene uptake and distribution ratio in the optimum situation were 49.4mg.g-1 and 38.4L.g-1, respectively. The nano particles were shown to capture 98.7% of the benzene in optimum batch condition and 94.5% in continuous condition. The isotherm data proved that the Bmnauer-Emmett-Teller model fit more closely and produced an isotherm constant （b） less than one, indicating favorable adsorption. Regeneration studies verified that the benzene adsorbed by the NM could be easily desorbed by temperature, and thereby, NM can be employed repeatedly in water and wastewater management.
