Occult hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection,by definition,is a state in which infection with this virus does not manifest with the conventional diagnostic laboratory criteria reserved for the obvious form of HBV *** a result,occult HBV infection is commonly a surprise finding discovered accidently during the evaluation of other apparent liver diseases,such as hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and,more importantly,their evolution into life-threatening hepatocellular *** infection with HCV and occult HBV is rarely considered when assessing these more obvious conditions,and in an attempt to offer a better understanding of this phenomenon,this study attempted to shed some light onto the uniqueness of occult HBV infection by addressing the natural history of HBV and HCV infections,as well as non-alcoholic fatty liver *** was carried out by taking into account the exclusive integration process undertaken by the HBV genome into infected host hepatocytes,with consideration given to conditions which afford reactivation of the occult infection and stress on the molecular mechanisms that underlie occult HBV ***,the clinical outcome of occult HBV infection and its relation to hepatocellular carcinoma is analyzed.

Role of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-C during Stem Cell Therapy Using Autologous Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cells in Patients with Lower Limb Lymphedema

Introduction: Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) is the primary lymphangiogenic factor that stimulates lymphangiogenesis by signaling via specific receptor, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR3). This study was conducted to evaluate the change in the level of VEGF-C before and after autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell transplantation for treatment of Lower limb lymphedema. Patient and methods: Forty patients with lower limb lymphedema were divided into two groups. Group I included 20 patients with chronic lower limb lymphedema who underwent autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell transplantation. Group II included 20 patients with chronic lower limb lymphedema who were exposed only to compression therapy as a control group. VEGF-C level in the diseased limbs was measured in both groups at the beginning of the study then 3 and 6 months respectively. Results: Group I included 20 patients, 8 patients were male (40%) and 12 patients were females (60%) with mean age 29.5 ± 12.15 while group II included 20, 10 patients were male (50%) and 10 patients were females (50%) with mean age 39.5 ± 11.5. In group I, the specimens were taken at 3 and 6 months after transplantation showed a marked decrease in the VEGF-C level with statistically significant p value, 0.02 and 0.001 respectively. In group II the level of VEGF-C after compression therapy alone at 3 and 6 months interval showed fluctuation with statistically non-significant p value, 0.64 and 0.55 respectively. Conclusion: VEGF-C is essential for regulation of lymphangiogenesis. The level of VEGF-C was found elevated in patients with lymphedema and decrease after autologous mononuclear bone marrow cells, however these results were statically non-significant.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Moringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract as an adjunct treatment on lead acetate induced hepatonephrotoxicity in rabbits. Methods: Thirty-six male New Zealand White rabbits were assigned into two main groups. The first group(14 rabbits) served as normal control. The second group(22 rabbits) was administered orally with lead acetate at a dose of 40 mg/kg/day, 5 days/week for 8 weeks. At the 4 th and the 8 th week of treatment, 6 animals(3 animals at each period) of the second group were sacrificed while the remaining animals(16 rabbits) were assigned randomly into 2 subgroups(8 rabbits each): treated and non-treated. The first subgroup was orally given 1 m L phosphate-buffered saline for further 4 weeks while the second subgroup was administered orally with Moringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg/day for the same period. Blood samples were collected to determine hematological and serum biochemical indices. Tissue specimens were collected from the liver and kidney for evaluation of the oxidant/antioxidant markers and for histopathological ***: Lead acetate exposure decreased the mean body weight gain, hematocrit, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, and lymphocytes count. Moreover, it markedly increased counts of monocytes and platelets, serum enzyme activity, levels of creatinine, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Malondialdehyde level was markedly increased while the reduced glutathione content was significantly decreased in liver tissue of lead intoxicated-rabbits. Histopathological alterations were also noticed in the liver and kidney of lead intoxicated rabbits. Moringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract significantly improved hematological and serum biochemical parameters and histopathological structure of the liver and kidney. Delayed Grafting as a Valid Technique in Burn Management: Experience from a Burn Unit in Oman

Background: Early excision and grafting has been the preferred method of managing major burns around the world since 1970. Considering the advances in health care and the development of new antibiotics over the past 50 years, delayed grafting as a technique for the management of burns over 15%-20% of total body surface area (TBSA) could have comparable results to that of early excision. This study aims to highlight the outcomes of practicing delayed grafting in burn patients. Methods: A case series analysis was performed of 51 patients who were admitted to the burns unit in Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah with over 20% TBSA between January 2014 and December 2019. The patients received prophylactic antibiotics and silver sulphadiazine dressing until the burn eschar had completely separated, followed by grafting. Results: Two patients were lost during the entire duration of the study. The mortality rate was comparable to that of early excision, while the rate of hypertrophic scarring was lower than the range reported by other studies. Conclusion: In the management of patients with over 20% TBSA, delayed grafting after complete separation of eschar is still a valid technique.

The synthesis and characterization of N,N＇-bis（salicylidene） ethylenediamine, Salen said that were carried out. The behavior of this ligand has been studied in solution in solvent homogeneous and heterogeneous systems in sulphate medium. The use of pH-metric titration, GRAN and JOB＇s methods have permitted the determination of different parameters governing the behavior of Salen in solution such as the acidity constant, the stability constant, the nature of the interaction solvent-solute, the solvation number, the stoichiometry of extracted complex etc.. Then the extraction of the Salen was finally undertaken to words the copper （II） sulfate medium. The pH of complexation, extraction time, the number of protons exchanged and the number of ligands have been finally determined.

Ornaments as Means of Efficient Reinforcement in Heritage Buildings

Heritage consists of those items people have inherited and want to keep, as they give them the sense of the past of their cultural identity, but these items, especially the buildings, could not face deteriorations during their period of life, such as the change of loads, the act of the environmental conditions, the effect of the duration time of the materials and the misuse of the occupants. They need special treatments and reinforcements to keep the structural state or to gain extra forces to receive the new loads. But the traditional ways of reinforcement do not prove endless solutions as the most means of the deteriorations from the nature. So, the liability issue is how to find the least reinforcement within the means of technology with the least deterioration and in a less time or by other ways efficiently. The hypothesis considers that the ornaments in some heritage buildings are found in critical levels of the construction which can share in an efficient way in the reinforcement processes of such buildings.

A new europium(Ⅲ)complex containing(4-Methyl-2-oxo-2 H-chromen-7-yloxy)-acetic acid moiety(CMMC)was synthesized,characterized,and confirmed as antitumor agent and fluorescent *** spectroscopic measurements of Eu(Ⅲ)in the presence of CMMC were obtained in different *** results show that the strongest Eu(Ⅲ)emission bands were monitored in iso-propyl alcohol while the weakest Eu(Ⅲ)emission band was observed in *** interaction of Eu(Ⅲ)-(CMMC)2 complex with DNA was monitored using absorption and emission *** fluorescence titration measurements,the binding constants of DNA with Eu(Ⅲ)-(CMMC)_2 complex were found to be 1.04×10~5 L·mol^(-1) in Tris-HCl and 1.17×10~7 L·mol^(-1) in DMSO-Tris-HCl buffer(9∶1 V/V).Hypochromism was observed from the absorption titration experiment which indicates the intercalation of Eu(Ⅲ)-complex between the base pair of *** result further confirmed by fluorescent Ethidium bromide displacement *** fluorescence calibration curve was used for the determination of DNA with LOD of 1.2 ng in DMSO-Tris-HCl buffer(9∶1 V/V)and 5 ng in Tris-HCl *** preliminary antitumor investigation shows promising cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231,MCF-7(mammary cancer),and PC-3(prostate carcinoma)cell lines with IC50 values of 40.63,25.42 and 30.25μmol·L^(-1),respectively.
