Effect of Substrates on the Properties of ZnO Thin Films Grown by Pulsed Laser Deposition

Polycrystalline zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have been deposited at 450°C onto glass and silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique (PLD). The used source was a KrF excimer laser (248 nm, 25 ns, 5 Hz, 2 J/cm2). The effects of glass and silicon substrates on structural and optical properties of ZnO films have been investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that ZnO films are polycrystalline with a hexagonal wurtzite—type structure with a strong (103) orientation and have a good crystallinity on monocrystalline Si(100) substrate. The thickness and compositional depth profile were studied by Rutherford Backscattering spectrometry (RBS). The average transmittance of ZnO films deposited on glass substrate in the visible range is 70%.

AIM:To evaluate the impact of long term permanent hypoxemia noticed in patients with non operated congenital cyanogenic cyanotic cardiopathy on liver ***:We included ten adult patients with non operated inoperate cyanotic cardiopathy and ten matched patients for age and gender admitted to the gastroenterology department for proctologic diseases;Clinical and laboratory data were collected[age,gender,body mass index,oxygen saturation,glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase(GOT),glutamate pyruvate transaminase(GPT),glycemia and cholesterol].Measurement of hepatic stiffness by transient elastography was carried out in all patients using the Fibroscan *** patients underwent an echocardiography to eliminate congestive heart ***:Among the patients with cyanotic cardiopathy,median liver stiffness 5.9±1.3 kPa was greater than control group(4.7±0.4 kPa)(P=0.008).Median levels of GOT,GPT,gamma-glutamyltransferase,glycemia and cholesterol were comparable in cardiopathy and control *** regression analysis including age,gender,body mass index,oxygen saturation,GOT,GPT,glycemia,cholesterol showed that only oxygen saturation was related to liver stiffness(r=-0.63 P=0.002).CONCLUSION:Chronic permanent hypoxemia can induce mild increase of liver stiffness,but further studies are needed to explore the histological aspects of liver injury induced by chronic permanent hypoxemia.

Objective:To evaluate the larvicidal activity of essential oil of Origanum mtijoruna(Lamiaceae)cultivated in Morocco against Culex pipiens(Diptera:Culicidae).Methods:The analysis and the identification of the various constituents of essential oil were carried out by gas chromatography coupled with mass *** test was performed according to a standard methodology inspired by the World Health Organization protocol with slight ***:This oil mainly consisted of monoterpene and *** majority compounds are 4-terpinene(28.96%),y-terpinene(18.57%),α-terpinene(12.72%) and sabinene(8.02%).The lethal concentrations(LC_(50) and LC_(90)) measured for the essential oil Origanum majorana,were respectively of the order of 258.71 mg/L and 580.49 mg/***:The results could be useful in search for newer,safer,and more effective natural larvicidal agents.

Effects of Transportation Stress during the Hot-Dry Season on Some Haematological and Physiological Parameters in Moroccan Dromedary Camels （Camelus dromedarius）

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of road transportation under heat conditions on some haematological [Ht （haematocrit）, blood cells count and EOF （erythrocytes osmotic fragility）] and physiological [Tr （rectal temperature）, HR （heart） and RR （respiratory rates）, and circulating levels of Cor （cortisol）, Glu （glucose） and minerals] parameters in Moroccan dromedary camels. The animals were subjected to road transportation stressor for 2 h by truck during the hot-dry season. Blood samples were collected before loading and transport, and at the end of transport. Transportation induced a significant increase （P 〈 0.05） of erythrocytes count, Ht, EOF, Tr, HR and RR by comparison to values observed before transportation. The same stress conditions induced a significant increase （P 〈 0.05） of plasma Cor （ng/mL） and blood Glu （mM）（220 ± 30 vs. 137 ± 20, 9.7 ± 1.2 vs. 6.4 ± 1. 1 respectively） and a significant decrease （P 〈 0.05） of plasma magnesium （mM）（0.5 ± 0.1 vs. 0.9 ± 0.1） comparatively to pre-transportation values. These results indicate that road transportation associated to heat may be considered as a potent stressor which is able to induce several cellular alterations in camels. Further studies of an eventual protective role of vitamin C against haemolysis induced by transportation stress in camel are needed.

Mitral Valve Commissurotomy: Which One between the Three Techniques Gives a Better Long-Team Outcome?

Objective: we sought to compare long-term results of three techniques: CMC, OMC and PMC in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis. Patients and Method: Between January 1994 and December 2015, 183 patients underwent mitral valve surgery for rheumatic mitral restenosis. All patients were investigated by echocardiography-Doppler performed by a senior cardiologist. The patients were divided into 3 groups: patients who have previously closed mitral commissurotomy (CMC n = 101), patients with previously open mitral commissurotomy (OMC n = 28) and those treated by Balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PMC = 54). Results: The three groups were comparable in term of major demographic data. Mitral restenosis occurred precociously in groups treated by PMC (7 ± 4 years), followed by group with OMC 11.4 ± 4 years and CMC group but it occurred later CMC 16.8 ± 7.8 years (p Conclusion: CMC produces better long-term outcome than OMC and PMC. However, it would be premature to conclude to its superiority.

Metakaolin as an Active Pozzolan for Cement That Improves Its Properties and Reduces Its Pollution Hazard

Prepared metakaolin produced by calcination of a kaolin sample at 750°C after soaking for 5 hrs was tested as an active pozzolan for locally produced cement. Blended pastes of partially replaced ordinary Portland cement with different metakaolin amounts 5%, 10% and 15% were prepared, then they were hydrated with water for various time intervals of 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. At each time interval, the hydrated paste specimens were tested for compressive strength, hydration kinetics and followed up using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffractometry analyses and scanning electron microscopy techniques. Results showed that the blended pastes OPC-MK10 recorded the highest compressive strength values at all the hydration times reaching 33.10, 86.40, 101.20, 112, and 122 MPa with increasing the age of hydration as compared with the neat samples which recorded 31.70, 65.20, 72.6, 82 and 101.30 MPa respectively. Meanwhile, the OPC-MK10 blend showed a decrease in the free CaO content reaching 4.07%, 4.27%, 4.23%, 4.19%, and 4.11% CaO with increasing age of hydration compared with the neat samples which recorded 4.27%, 5.15%, 5.42%, 5.61%, and 5.96% CaO respectively. The DSC thermograms results for the hardened neat and OPC-Mk10 pastes at the 14 and 28 hydration days showed the formation of hydrated materials mainly calcium silicate hydrates, calcium sulphoaluminate hydrates and calcium aluminates hydrates. The X-ray diffractometry analyses of both hardened neat and OPC- MK10 showed that, the intensity of calcium hydroxide peaks of OPC-MK10 was lower than in case of neat OPC, while the peak of the hydration products of calcium silicate hydrates and calcium aluminates silicate hydrates of OPC- MK10 samples were of higher intensity than in case of neat OPC. Scanning electron microscopy micrographs indicated the formation of denser micro- structure for the hardened OPC-MK10 paste as compared to neat OPC pastes after the 28 days age of hydration.

Aim:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common cancers in the *** left untreated,liver cancer has a poor prognosis with more than 90%of patients dying of the disease within 5 years of *** aim of this study is to assess the value of combined radiofrequency ablation(RFA),followed by trans-arterial chemoembolization(TACE)in the management of ***:Fifty HCC patients with chronic liver disease were categorized into two groups according to the modality of locoregional treatment:25 HCC patients treated with RFA followed by TACE within 5 days and 25 HCC patients treated with TACE ***:Complete response was achieved in 100%and 84%of the HCC patients after 1 month from combined RFA-TACE therapy and TACE only *** rate of objective response after 7 months was 84%and 44%in the RFA-TACE and TACE groups *** year disease free survival rate was 56%and 24%in RFA-TACE and TACE groups respectively,and overall survival rate was 88%in the RFA-TACE group and 80%in the TACE only ***:Combined RFA-TACE appears to be an effective modality and superior to TACE only for the treatment of HCC.

Surgery in the Acute Phase of Infective Endocarditis: 5 Years after Our Initial Experience

Aim: Comparing the results of acute phase infectious endocarditis surgery between two periods. Methods and Results: The study is about 2 series, series A between 1993 and 1997, and series B between 1998 and 2012, respectively 13 and 51 patients. The two periods were similar concerning the number of patients per year, which was 3.12 cases/year for series A and 3.64 cases/year for series B. The authors noted a change in epidemiological profile, with an increase of median age (31 y.o for series A and 37 y.o for series B), and the emergency of endocarditis on prosthetic valve (none on series A and 8 cases for series B). Surgical indications and results didn’t change too much, hospital mortality rate was 15.3% for series A and 17.6% for series B. Conclusion: Infectious endocarditis is still a major public healthcare problem in developing countries, despite the development of diagnostic tools and patient care. Prevention is still the major asset in the treatment of this disease.

Background: Breast cancer is considered the commonest and the most fatal female cancer worldwide. There is to an urgent need for discovering recent therapies to identify patient prognosis and improve treatment strategies. Fork-head Box C2 (FOXC2) is a transcription factor which is a key regulator of cancer stem cells (CSC) properties and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) e.g. cancer initiation, metastatic capacity, and resistance to chemotherapy. FOXC2 roles in CSCs properties and EMT regulation in breast cancer needs detailed studies. YKL-40 is known as chitinase-3-like-1 belongs to a family of mammalian proteins that have an amino acid sequence which is similar to the 18-glycosyl hydrolase bacterial chitinases group. Recent studies have found aberrant YKL-40 elevated expression in cancer of various organs, so it may be used as a recent prognostic biomarker for patients with breast cancer. Former researchers have assessed the expression of FOXC2 & YKL-40 separately in cancer patients and relations to prognosis of patients;however, no studies assessed them together in breast cancer patients and the previous results were inconclusive. Accordingly, our study aimed at evaluation of immunohistochemical expressions of FOXC2 & YKL-40 in carcinoma of the breast in a trial to clarify the relation among their expressions, clinicopathological parameters and recurrence of the disease after successive therapy and patients’ prognosis. Methods: we have evaluated expressions of FOXC2 & YKL-40 in sections from 50 paraffin blocks of carcinoma of the breast using immunohistochemistry. We followed up our patients for 3 years for assessment of recurrence of the disease after successive therapy and survival rates. We analyzed the relationship between their combined expression clinicopathological and prognostic parameters. Results: high FOXC2 expression was associated with older age of the patient (p = 0.002), negative ER (p = 0.009), & PR (p = 0.008), positive HER2neu (p = 0.02),
