Recent insights into the characteristics and role of peritoneal macrophages from ascites of cirrhotic patients

Macrophages are a diverse myeloid cell population involved in innate and adaptive immune responses,embryonic development,wound repair,and regulation of tissue *** cells link the innate and adaptive immunities and are crucial in the development and sustainment of various inflammatory *** are tissue-resident cells in steady-state conditions;however,they are also recruited from blood monocytes after local pathogen invasion or tissue *** macrophages vary based on their cell complexity,phenotype,and functional *** cells regulate inflammation and control bacterial infections in the ascites of decompensated cirrhotic *** recent work reported several phenotypic and functional characteristics of these cells under both healthy and pathological conditions.A direct association between cell size,CD14/CD16 expression,intracellular level of GATA-6,and expression of CD206 and HlA-DR activation/maturation markers,indicate that the large peritoneal macrophage CD14^(high)CD16^(high)subset constitutes the mature phenotype of human resident peritoneal macrophages during ***,elevated expression of CD14/CD16 is related to the phagocytic *** novel large CD14^(high)CD16^(high)peritoneal subpopulation is increased in the ascites of cirrhotic patients and is highly sensitive to lipopolysaccharide(lPS)-induced activation,thereby exhibiting features of inflammatory ***,phosphorylation of ERK1/2,PKB/Akt,and c-Jun is remarkably increased in response to lPS in vitro,whereas that of p38 MAPK is reduced compared with the monocyte-derived macrophages from the blood of healthy ***,in vitro activated monocyte-derived macrophages from ascites of cirrhotic patients secreted significantly higher levels of Il-6,Il-10,and TNF-αand lower amounts of Il-1βand Il-12 than the corresponding cells from healthy donor’s *** on these results,other authors have recently reported that the sur

Diminishing demandingness of parents;children with recurrent infections

Background and Method: Parenting and parenting styles are in favor of authoritative parents compared with non-authoritative parents. These parents display higher levels of both responsiveness and demandingness. We studied the aspect of demandingness using a questionnaire aimed at children aged between 1 and 4 years. 82 Children with recurrent respiratory infections (RRI) and 399 control children were included. Results: Parents of RRI children regulated the quantitative dietary intake of their child less;likewise they gave less stimulation to their children to eat. They also taught their children less on what they can or cannot touch and they argued more with their children (all p le rules like watching television or not, the parents of RRI children were very clear. There were however no differences in rules about television watching, computer time or bedtimes. Conclusions: Our study shows that parents of children with RRI are less demanding in complex pedagogic situations that ask for creativity from the parents. However, they are demanding with respect to simple rules. We found no child factors that could explain why children give their parents a hard time. We hypothesize that the parents of RRI children could be less capable of handling complex pedagogic situations (even more complicated by the infections) instead of being unwilling.

Introduction Cardiovascular (CV) diseases are the most common causes of death and causes frequent hospital admissions.[1] The increase in life expectancy and the appearance of new treatments,[2] is changing in the clinical profile of CV disease, with a rise in chronic processes and concomitant comorbidities.[ 3] These changes are probably reflected in the current profile of patients admitted to cardiology departments, and in their causes of mortality.

Hospitalization Can Correct Behavioral Feeding Disorders in Children by Resetting the Pedagogic Climate

Background: Behavioral feeding disorders are common among children, which sometimes become progressive, and consequently, children may refuse to eat anything. Parents have lots of difficulties to reset such a disturbed eating pattern. The aim of this study was to perform an analysis of clinical intervention in behavioral feeding disorders in young children. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data of 28 children aged 1 - 9 years with behavioral feeding disorders. A pediatrician and pediatric social worker conducted the training in two groups: outpatient or inpatient setting. Both groups were treated with parental education and guidance. The inpatient group also had a temporarily (2 weeks) resetting of the pedagogic climate in a pediatric ward of a general hospital under guidance of a pediatric social worker. Results: Almost all parents were inconsistent in applying appropriate behavioral contingencies during meals. Eleven patients followed 8 months of outpatient treatment and 25 patients followed 2 weeks of inpatient treatment. The overall success rate of outpatient treatment after 2 weeks was 18%, and that of inpatient treatment after 8 months was 88%. The corrected relapse rates are 18% and 56% respectively after 6 months. Conclusion: Short clinical intervention in a structured pedagogic environment is a successful treatment in behavioral feeding disorders. Herewith, pediatricians have a powerful tool for treating behavioral feeding disorders by temporarily resetting and changing the pedagogic climate.

The optimal ventilation method for patients suffering from cardiac arrest and receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)remains unclear,and the recent guidelines do not provide detailed information.[1-3]During CPR,changing thoracic pressures due to chest compressions and ventilation pressure infl uence venous return and cardiac output,respectively.[4-6]Novel mechanical ventilation modes that are synchronized to chest compressions may improve blood flow and oxygenation.[4]In this porcine trial,we investigated the feasibility of a specially designed chest compression synchronized ventilation(CCSV)mode with peak pressures limited to 40 mbar(1 mbar=0.1 kPa)and an experimental synchronized ventilation(SV)limited to 20 mbar,respectively,intended to achieve a more lung-protective ventilation pattern during *** evaluated whether the diff erent synchronized pressure levels ameliorate hemodynamics,gas exchange and pulmonary function and compared it to intermittent positive pressure ventilation(IPPV).

Thermal Characterization and lifetime Estimation of the Humus lombricospt

Through this study, the humus produced in the breeding place of Universidad Autonoma de Occidente was thermally characterized. The humus was submitted to a heating program controlled by the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) technique to characterize the type of transition, Thermogravimetry (TGA) to study the equilibrium of phasesand Mass Spectrometry (MS) coupled to TGA to identify detached elements in a temperature range. The temperature range used in this study was 30℃ ℃. The energy required for the water desorption in the humus has been found in this study. The humus showed a quick desorption between 30℃ ≤ TDesorption ≤ 110℃ at a heating rate of 10℃/min and presented decomposition around 250℃. Moreover, the kinetics of the desorption of the humus was studied to obtain the activation energy three TGA measures for three different heating rates. The average activation energy was about 26 kJ/Mol. This result was carried out to obtain an estimation of the desorption time of water in the range from room temperature to the decomposition temperature around 350℃.

High entropy fluorides as conversion cathodes with tailorable electrochemical performance

With the recent development of high entropy materials, an alternative approach to develop advanced functional materials with distinctive properties that show improved values compared to conventional materials has been provided. The high entropy concept was later successfully transferred to metal fluorides and high entropy fluorides(HEFs) were successfully synthesized. Owing to their high theoretical specific capacities in energy storage applications, HEFs were utilized as cathode materials for lithiumion batteries(lIBs) and their underlying storage mechanisms were investigated. Instead of a step-bystep reduction of each individual metal cation, the HEFs seem to exhibit a single-step reduction process,indicating a solid solution compound instead of merely a mixture of different metal fluorides. It was also observed that the electrochemical behavior of the HEFs depends on each individual incorporated element. Therefore, by altering the elemental composition, new materials that exhibit improved electrochemical properties can be designed. Remarkably, HEFs with seven incorporated metal elements exhibited a better cycling stability as well as a lower hysteresis compared to binary metal *** findings offer new guidelines for material design and tailoring towards high performance lIBs.
