Construction and evaluation of a liver cancer risk prediction model based on machine learning

BACKGROUND Liver cancer is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors worldwide,and its early detection and treatment are crucial for enhancing patient survival rates and quality of ***,the early symptoms of liver cancer are often not obvious,resulting in a late-stage diagnosis in many patients,which significantly reduces the effectiveness of *** a highly targeted,widely applicable,and practical risk prediction model for liver cancer is crucial for enhancing the early diagnosis and long-term survival rates among affected *** To develop a liver cancer risk prediction model by employing machine learning techniques,and subsequently assess its *** In this study,a total of 550 patients were enrolled,with 190 hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and 195 cirrhosis patients serving as the training cohort,and 83 HCC and 82 cirrhosis patients forming the validation *** regression(LR),support vector machine(SVM),random forest(RF),and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)regression models were developed in the training *** performance was assessed in the validation ***,this study conducted a comparative evaluation of the diagnostic efficacy between the ASAP model and the model developed in this study using receiver operating characteristic curve,calibration curve,and decision curve analysis(DCA)to determine the optimal predictive model for assessing liver cancer *** Six variables including age,white blood cell,red blood cell,platelet counts,alpha-fetoprotein and protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II levels were used to develop LR,SVM,RF,and LASSO regression *** RF model exhibited superior discrimination,and the area under curve of the training and validation sets was 0.969 and 0.858,*** values significantly surpassed those of the LR(0.850 and 0.827),SVM(0.860 and 0.803),LASSO regression(0.845 and 0.831),and ASAP(0.866 and 0.813)model

Nuclear charge radius predictions by kernel ridge regression with odd-even effects

The extended kernel ridge regression(EKRR)method with odd-even effects was adopted to improve the description of the nuclear charge radius using five commonly used nuclear *** are:(i)the isospin-dependent A^(1∕3) formula,(ii)relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov(RCHB)theory,(iii)Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov(HFB)model HFB25,(iv)the Weizsacker-Skyrme(WS)model WS*,and(v)HFB25**** the last two models,the charge radii were calculated using a five-parameter formula with the nuclear shell corrections and deformations obtained from the WS and HFB25 models,*** each model,the resultant root-mean-square deviation for the 1014 nuclei with proton number Z≥8 can be significantly reduced to 0.009-0.013 fm after considering the modification with the EKRR *** best among them was the RCHB model,with a root-mean-square deviation of 0.0092 *** extrapolation abilities of the KRR and EKRR methods for the neutron-rich region were examined,and it was found that after considering the odd-even effects,the extrapolation power was improved compared with that of the original KRR *** strong odd-even staggering of nuclear charge radii of Ca and Cu isotopes and the abrupt kinks across the neutron N=126 and 82 shell closures were also calculated and could be reproduced quite well by calculations using the EKRR method.

Microplastics(MPs)have become a significant concern for their potential ***,the correlation between the size of plastic particles and their toxicity remains ***,we investigate the toxic effects of different sizes(80 nm,800 nm,8μm and 80μm)polystyrene MPs(PS-MPs)on the model organism Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus).The results of bioluminescent imaging indicate that the 80 nm PS-MPs are more likely to invade the body.H&E staining shows severe damage on the intestinal villi and distinct hepatic steatosis in the 80 nm *** U labeling shows that the proliferation activity of intestinal and liver cells reduces significantly in the 80 nm *** gut microbiome analysis shows a severe imbalance of gut microbiota homeostasis in the 80 nm *** analysis of liver transcriptomics and metabolomics shows that the liver lipid metabolism is disordered in the 80 nm *** conclusion,this study confirms that the 80 nm PS-MPs are more likely to induce intestinal and liver *** the above lay the foundation for further study on the pathological damage of MPs to other organisms.

Dietary supplementation with succinic acid improves growth performance and flesh quality of adult Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fed a high-carbohydrate diet

To evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with succinic acid on growth performance, flesh quality, glucose, and lipid metabolism of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fed a high-carbohydrate diet (HCD), five iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets were prepared as follows: HCD (control group) consisting of 55% corn starch and HCD supplemented with 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, and 4.0% succinic acid, respectively. Tilapia with an initial body weight of 204.90 +/- 1.23 g randomly assigned to 15 tanks with 3 replicates per group and 10 fish per tank fed for 8 weeks. Increasing dietary succinic acid supplementation resulted in significant second-order polynomial relationship in the weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency rate (PER), viscerosomatic index, condition factor, and contents of muscular crude lipid and glycogen (P luble hydroxyproline in collagen, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3PUFA) in muscle, and lower total fatty acid content in muscle (P < 0.05) compared with the control group. Compared to the control group, dietary supplementation with 1.0% succinic acid significantly increased the contents of total bounding amino acid (arginine, histidine, isoleucine, lysine, methionine, alanine, proline), total flavor amino acid (free aspartic acid), the catalase (CAT) activity and total antioxidant capacity, and the mRNA relative expression levels of CAT, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and nucl

Wearable electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding fabrics with excellent electromagnetic shielding performance,oxidation resistance,and structural stability are highly demanded for the rapid development of electronic devices and wireless *** are metallic conductive materials with exceptional EMI shielding properties,but they are prone to oxidation in air and have poor structural stability and durability on fabric ***,we present a one-step assembly method to fabricate fabrics coated with MXenes and polymeric sodium alginate(SA)composite(MXene-SA).SA protects MXenes from oxidation and forms a stable interlayer structure by bonding to *** MXene-SA coated fabrics are breathable and flexible,and have a low sheet resistance of 2.12±0.08Ω/sq and a high EMI shielding performance of 37.05 dB at X-band,which is comparable to the best 42.31 ***,the MXene-SA coated fabrics exhibit high structural stability and oxidation resistance under various conditions of sonication disintegration,mechanical abuse,chemical corrosion,and humidity,compared to pure MXenes coated *** believe that the wearable and high-performance MXene-SA fabrics have great potential for the next generation of ultra-portable and wearable EMI shielding products.

Enhancing source domain availability through data and feature transfer learning for building power load forecasting
