Non-Contact Physiological Measurement System for Wearing Masks During the Epidemic

Physiological signals indicate a person’s physical and mental state at any given ***,many studies extract physiological signals from the human body with non-contact methods,and most of them require facial feature ***,under COVID-19,wearing a mask has become a must in many places,so how non-contact physiological information measurements can still be performed correctly even when a mask covers the facial information has become a focus of *** this study,RGB and thermal infrared cameras were used to execute non-contact physiological information measurement systems for heart rate,blood pressure,respiratory rate,and forehead temperature for peoplewearing masks due to the *** the green(G)minus red(R)signal in the RGB image,the region of interest(ROI)is established in the forehead and nose bridge *** photoplethysmography(PPG)waveforms of the two regions are obtained after the acquired PPG signal is subjected to the optical flow method,baseline drift calibration,normalization,and bandpass *** relevant parameters in Deep Neural Networks(DNN)for the regression model can correctly predict the heartbeat and blood *** addition,the temperature change in the ROI of the mask after thermal image processing and filtering can be used to correctly determine the number of ***,the thermal image can be used to read the temperature average of the ROI of the forehead,and the forehead temperature can be obtained *** experimental results show that the above-mentioned physiological signals of a subject can be obtained in 6-s images with the error for both heart rate and blood pressure within 2%∼3%and the error of forehead temperature within±0.5°C.

To achieve higher automation level of vehicles defned by the Society of Automotive Engineers,safety is a key requirement afecting navigation *** apply Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR)as a main auxiliary sensor and propose LiDAR-based Simultaneously Localization and Mapping(SLAM)approach for Positioning,Navigation,and ***,point cloud registration is handled with 3D Normal Distribution Transform(NDT)*** initial guess of the LiDAR pose for LiDAR-based SLAM comes from two sources:one is the diferential Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)solution;the other is Inertial Navigation System(INS)and GNSS integrated solution,generated with Extended Kalman Filter and motion constraints added,including Zero Velocity Update and Non-Holonomic *** experiment compares two initial guesses for scan matching in terms navigation *** emphasize the importance of a multi-sensor scheme in contrast to the conventional navigation method using the stand-alone system,the tests are conducted in both open sky area and GNSS signal block area,the latter might cause Multipath and Non-Line-Of-Sight *** enhance the navigation accuracy,the Fault Detection and Exclusion(FDE)mechanism is applied to correct the navigation *** results show that the application of NDT and FDE for INS/GNSS integrated system can not only reach where-in-lane level navigation accuracy(0.5 m),but also enable constructing the dynamic map.

A generalized Norde plot for reverse biased Schottky contacts

When a metal makes intimate contact with a semiconductor material, a Schottky barrier may be created. The Schottky contact has many important applications in the integrated circuit (IC) electronics field. The parameters of such contacts can be determined from their current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. The literature contains many proposals for extracting the contact parameters using graphical methods. However, such methods are generally applicable only to contacts with a forward bias, whereas many Schottky contacts actually operate under a reverse bias. Accordingly, the present study proposed a generalized reverse current-voltage (I-V) plot which enables the series resis-tance, barrier height, and ideality factor of a reverse biased Schottky contact to be extracted from a single set of I-V measurements. A theo-retical derivation of the proposed approach was presented and a series of validation tests were then performed. The results show that the proposed method is capable of extracting reliable estimates of the contact parameters even in the presence of experimental noise.

EZ-Manipulator:Designing a mobile,fast,and ambiguity-free 3D manipulation interface using smartphones

Interacting with digital contents in 3 D is an essential task in various applications such as modeling packages, gaming, virtual reality, etc. Traditional interfaces using keyboard and mouse or trackball usually require a non-trivial amount of working space as well as a learning process. We present the design of EZ-Manipulator, a new 3 D manipulation interface using smartphones that supports mobile, fast, and ambiguity-free interaction with 3 D objects. Our system leverages the built-in multi-touch input and gyroscope sensor of smartphones to achieve 9 degrees-of-freedom axis-constrained manipulation and free-form *** EZ-Manipulator to manipulate objects in 3 D is easy. The user merely has to perform intuitive singleor two-finger gestures and rotate the hand-held device to perform manipulations at fine-grained and coarse levels respectively. We further investigate the ambiguity in manipulation introduced by indirect manipulations using a multi-touch interface, and propose a dynamic virtual camera adjustment to effectively resolve the ambiguity. A preliminary study shows that our system has significant lower task completion time compared to conventional use of a keyboard–mouse interface, and provides a positive user experience to both novices and experts.

Theoretical insights on alleviating lattice-oxygen evolution by sulfur substitution in Li_(1.2)Ni_(0.6)Mn_(0.2)O_(2) cathode material

Here,we demonstrate that the lattice oxygen release on the high-capacity cathode,Li_(1.2)Ni_(0.6)Mn_(0.2)O_(2)(LNMO)surface can be successfully suppressed through S-anion-substitution using density functional theory(DFT)calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)*** oxygen evolution mechanisms on pristine and sulfur(S)-substituted LNMO(003)surfaces in the presence of an electrolyte mixture are ***-oxidation of O^(2−)anions during delithiation in the pristine surface results in oxygen evolution and subsequent structural ***,in the S-substituted LNMO,S^(2−)anions primarily participate in charge compensation and further inhibit oxygen evolution and O vacancy formation at high degrees of ***,the S-substitution effectively prevents the formation of Ni^(3+)ions and Jahn-Teller distortion,retaining the layered structure during *** findings provide insight into improving the structural stability of the LNMO(003)surface,paving the way for developing Li-rich LNMO cathode materials for next-generation LIBs.

通过对大学生通识选修课座位选择偏好的研究,分析大学生在公共选修课中的座位偏好,进而探究通识选修课课堂参与度的现况,提出教室空间重构建议。采取混合研究法,分析465份有效问卷和10名学生的半结构化访谈结果发现:(1)社会自我概念略胜于学业自我概念,最能影响学习者的座位选择;(2)学生心目中的最佳学习效果区域分布基本符合Park和Choi的黄金区域理论;(3)坐在不同的座位会影响学习者的课堂表现和参与程度;(4)座位选择中存在场所依赖。

Hair growth-promotion effects and antioxidant activity of the banana flower extract HappyAngel^(■):double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Banana flowers contain various bioactive components, including several antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects. However, it is unclear whether they can reduce and prevent hair loss. This study examines the effect of banana flower extracts on preventing hair loss and strengthening hair roots. The banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))was used to treat human hair follicle dermal papilla cells(HFDPCs)and the expression of reactive oxygen species(ROS), dihydrotestosterone(DHT), and hair-related genes(SRD5A1, SRD5A2, AR, and KROX20)were monitored. Fifty subjects were divided into a placebo group and a banana flower group. The experimental group consumed banana flower extract daily for twelve weeks and then underwent hair testing, hair-related genes analysis, collection of hair loss, and questionnaires. The results showed that the banana flower extract significantly increased hair cell growth and decreased the expression of ROS, DHT, and hair follicle growth inhibition-related SRD5A1, SRD5A2, and AR genes, and significantly increased the expression of hair growth-related KROX20 gene in HFDPCs. Consuming banana flower extract for twelve weeks increased the hair root diameter and reduced hair loss and scalp redness compared to the placebo group. Thus, banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))can stimulate hair growth and inhibit the activation of hair loss genes.

Helicobacter pylori infection concomitant with metabolic syndrome further increase risk of colorectal adenomas

AIM: To investigate the association of colorectal adenomas with both Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and metabolic syndrome. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional hospital-based study, we analyzed physical examination data from 9311 healthy subjects with overnight physical examinations performed between January 2004 and December 2006. Examined data included gender, age, life style, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, biochemical and hematological studies, H. pylori infection detected by esophagogastroduodenoscopy and biopsy urease tests, and colorectal adenomas detected with a complete total colonoscopy. RESULTS: The prevalence values for H. pylori infection, metabolic syndrome, and colorectal adenoma were39.2%, 18.7%, and 20.7%, respectively. Colorectal adenoma risk factors included male gender [odd ratio (OR): 2.005, 95% conf idence interval (CI): 1.740-2.310, P < 0.001], advanced age (OR: 1.046, 95% CI: 1.040-1.052, P < 0.001), smoking (OR: 1.377, 95% CI: 1.146-1.654, P = 0.001), increased body fat (OR: 1.016, 95% CI: 1.007-1.026, P = 0.001), higher white blood cell count (OR: 1.038, 95% CI: 1.005-1.073, P = 0.025), H. pylori infection (OR: 1.366, 95% CI: 1.230-1.517, P < 0.001), and metabolic syndrome (OR: 1.408, 95% CI: 1.231-1.610, P < 0.001). In addition, concomitant H. pylori infection with metabolic syndrome further increased the probability of colorectal adenomas. CONCLUSION: Our study revealed H. pylori infection with concomitant metabolic syndrome might further increase the risk of colorectal adenomas.

Triclosan toxicity in a model cyanobacterium (Anabaena flos-aquae): Growth, photosynthesis and transcriptomic response

Exposure to triclosan(TCS)has been reported to reduce photosynthetic pigments,suppress photosynthesis,and inhibit growth in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic algae including Anabaena flos-aquae(a model cyanobacterium).In particular,cyanobacteria are more sensitive to TCS toxicity compared to eukaryotic algae possibly due to the structural similarity to bacteria(target organisms);however,whether TCS exerts its toxicity to cyanobacteria by targeting signaling pathways of fatty acid biosynthesis as in bacteria remains virtually unknown,particularly at environmental exposure *** the complete genome sequence of ***-aquae presented in this study,the transcriptomic alterations and potential toxic mechanisms in ***-aquae under TCS stress were *** growth,pigments and photosynthetic activity of ***-aquae were markedly suppressed following a 7-day TCS exposure at 0.5μg/L but not 0.1μg/L(both concentrations applied are environmentally relevant).The transcriptomic sequencing analysis showed that signaling pathways,such as biofilm formation–Pseudomonas aeruginosa,two-component system,starch and sucrose metabolism,and photosynthesis were closely related to the TCS-induced growth inhibition in the 0.5μg/L TCS *** systems and potentially two-component system were identified to be sensitive targets of TCS toxicity in *** present study provides novel insights on TCS toxicity at the transcriptomic level in ***-aquae.
