Southeast Asia's coastal urban areas continue to grow,with land reclamation fast becoming an important option for megacities to address issues of economic growth and increasing population *** are divided over the advantages and disadvantages of land reclamation,though this process continues unabated,exposing settlements to coastal *** Bataan Shipping and Engineering Company(BASECO)compound is an informal settlement on reclaimed land in Manila,the *** informal coastal settlements view disaster risk and their more pressing socioeconomic needs is crucial to understanding the potentials and repercussions of land *** a topographic survey,a questionnaire survey,and the protective action decision model,this study explored the perception of disasters and land reclamation of informal settlers who are living on reclaimed *** study found that people are aware of disaster risks,but are more concerned with everyday *** are divided on the issue of further land *** on the original non-reclaimed land view it as a coastal defense,while those on reclaimed land fear potential *** this,all locations in the community are concerned with the loss of jobs,economic opportunities,and eviction,rather than potential disasters.

The increasing awareness of the general society toward the seismic safety of structures has led to more restrictive performance requirements hence, many times, to the need of using new and more accurate methods of analysis of structures. Among these, nonlinear static procedures are becoming, evermore, the preferred choice of the majority of design codes, as an alternative to complete nonlinear time-history analysis for seismic design and assessment of structures. The many available software tools should therefore be evaluated and well understood, in order to be easily and soundly employed by the practitioners. The study presented herein intends to contribute to this need by providing further insight with respect to the use of commonly employed structural analysis software tools in nonlinear analysis of bridge structures. A comparison between different nonlinear modeling assumptions is presented, together with the comparison with real experimental results. Furthermore, alternative adaptive pushover procedures are proposed and applied to a case study bridge, based on a generic plastic hinge model. The adopted structural analysis program proved to be accurate, yielding reliable estimates, both in terms of local plastic hinge behavior and global structural behavior.

We propose an efficient high-throughput scheme for the discovery of stable crystalline *** approach is based on the transmutation of known compounds,through the substitution of atoms in the crystal structure with chemically similar *** concept of similarity is defined quantitatively using a measure of chemical replaceability,extracted by data-mining experimental *** this way we build 189,981 possible crystal phases,including 18,479 that are on the convex hull of *** resulting success rate of 9.72%is at least one order of magnitude better than the usual success rate of systematic high-throughput calculations for a specific family of materials,and comparable with speed-up factors of machine learning filtering *** a characterization of the set of 18,479 stable compounds,we calculate their electronic band gaps,magnetic moments,and *** approach,that can be used as a filter on top of any high-throughput scheme,enables us to efficiently extract stable compounds from tremendously large initial sets,without any initial assumption on their crystal structures or chemical compositions.

ABSTRACT This paper discusses the adoption of Artificial Intelligence-based techniques to estimate seismic damage,not with the goal of replacing existing approaches,but as a mean to improve the precision of empirical *** such,damage data collected in the aftermath of the 1998 Azores earthquake(Portugal)is used to develop a comparative analysis between damage grades obtained resorting to a classic damage formulation and an innovative approach based on Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs).The analysis is carried out on the basis of a vulnerability index computed with a hybrid seismic vulnerability asssment methodology,which is subsequently used as input to both *** results obtained are then compared with real post-earthquake damage observation and critically discussed taking into account the level of adjustment achieved by each ***,a computer routine that uses the ANN as an approximation function is developed and applied to derive a new vulnerability curve *** general terms,the ANN developed in this study allowed to obtain much better approximations than those achieved with the original vulnerability approach,which has revealed to be quite ***,the proposed vulnerability curve expression was found to provide a more accurate damage prediction than the traditional analytical expressions.

Although artificial intelligence(AI)was initially developed many years ago,it has experienced spectacular advances over the last 10 years for application in the field of medicine,and is now used for diagnostic,therapeutic and prognostic purposes in almost all *** application in the area of hepatology is especially relevant for the study of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),as this is a very common tumor,with particular radiological characteristics that allow its diagnosis without the need for a histological ***,the interpretation and analysis of the resulting images is not always easy,in addition to which the images vary during the course of the disease,and prognosis and treatment response can be conditioned by multiple *** vast amount of data available lend themselves to study and analysis by AI in its various branches,such as deeplearning(DL)and machine learning(ML),which play a fundamental role in decision-making as well as overcoming the constraints involved in human *** is a form of AI based on automated learning from a set of previously provided data and training in algorithms to organize and recognize *** is a more extensive form of learning that attempts to simulate the working of the human brain,using a lot more data and more complex *** review specifies the type of AI used by the various ***,welldesigned prospective studies are needed in order to avoid as far as possible any bias that may later affect the interpretability of the images and thereby limit the acceptance and application of these models in clinical *** addition,professionals now need to understand the true usefulness of these techniques,as well as their associated strengths and limitations.

Two fundamental facts of the modern wave turbulence theory are 1)existence of power energy spectra in k-space,and 2)existence of“gaps”in this spectra corresponding to the resonance ***,three wave turbulent regimes are singled out:kinetic,described by wave kinetic equations and power energy spectra;discrete,characterized by resonance clustering;and mesoscopic,where both types of wave field time evolution *** this review paper we present the results on integrable dynamics of resonance clusters appearing in discrete and mesoscopic wave turbulent *** a novel method based on the notion of dynamical invariant we show that some of the frequently met clusters are integrable in quadratures for arbitrary initial conditions and some others-only for particular initial *** also identify chaotic behaviour in some *** implications of the results obtained are discussed.

CCl4 （carbon tetrachloride） and n-C6H14 （n-hexane） sorption studies have been carried out on natural and dealuminated clinoptilolite-type zeolites. External surface area of the materials has been assessed using the αs-plots method. The high resolution αs-plots show that the isotherms are divided into four parts corresponding to adsorption in ultramicropores, intersections, supermicropores and external surface area, respectively. The mineralogies of natural zeolites are determined by X-ray analysis. N： low-pressure hysteresis loops, displayed by some substrata, are related to the micropore structure and to the ion-exchange treatment at which the natural precursors were subjected. The adsorption behavior of these substrata was examined in the range of relative pressures between 10^-5-1. Natural samples were used as reference materials to carry out the sorption analyses of the dealuminated samples. The effect of narrow micropore constrictions on the adsorption behavior of clinoptilolites was explored. The occurrence of a low-pressure hysteresis loop on the sorption isotherm of a modified sample is associated to the strong adsorption of the adsorbate molecules at the entrance of the necked-shape micropores, which interfere with the diffusion of the adsorbate molecules inside the porous structure.

Johnson-Laird and Byrne distinguished ten kinds of conditionals. Their framework was the mental models theory and they attributed different combinations of semantic possibilities to those ten types of conditionals. Based on such combinations, the mental models theory has clear predictions for reasoning tasks, including those kinds of conditionals and involving reasoning schemata such as Modus Ponens, Modus Tollens, the affirming the consequent fallacy, and the denying the antecedent fallacy. My aim in this paper is to show that the prediction,; of the mental logic theory for those reasoning tasks are exactly the same as those of the mental models theory, and that, therefore, such tasks are not useful to decide which of the two theories is correct.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the fifth most common cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer death. Since the diagnosis of HCC is difficult, in many cases patients with HCC are diagnosed advanced stage of development. Hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)/c-mesenchymal-epithelial transition receptor(c-Met) axis is a key signaling pathway in HCC, either via canonical or non-canonical pathways. Available treatments against HCC based upon HGF/c-Met inhibition can increase patient lifespan, but do not reach the expected therapeutic benefits. In HCC, c-Met monomers can bind other receptor monomers, activating several noncanonical signaling pathways, leading to increased cell proliferation, invasion, motility, and drug resistance. All of these processes are enhanced by the tumor microenvironment, with stromal cells contributing to boost tumor progression through oxidative stress, angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, inflammation, and fibrosis. Novel treatments against HCC are being explored to modulate other targets such as microR NAs, methyltransferases, and acetyltransferases, which are all involved in the regulation of gene expression in cancer. This review compiles basic knowledge regarding signaling pathways in HCC, and compounds already used or showing potential to be used in clinical trials.
