Compil.tion and Anal.sis of Atheroscl.rosis Gene Expression Data

The objective of this project was to search for consensus in differential.gene expression data and in regul.tion of differential.y expressed genes among DNA microarray studies of atheroscl.rotic vessel. and pl.que. Seventeen DNA microarray studies of atheroscl.rosis were anal.zed. Onl. 19 genes were found to be differential.y expressed in 3 or more of the studies. The nineteen genes bel.ng to cl.ssic gene ontol.gies known to be invol.ed in atheroscl.rosis: immunity and defense, metabol.sm, proteases, receptors, and signal.transduction. Four bioinformatics programs (TRED, rVISTA, JASPAR, and Ariadne Pathways) were used to further anal.ze the promoter regions and common upstream regul.tors of the 19 genes. Twel.e of the genes shared nine common upstream regul.tors, many of them known to affect atheroscl.rosis, and one possibl. new pathway was identified that may be invol.ed in this disease.
