Exploiting nonlinear characteristics in micro/nanosystems has been a subject of increasing interest in the last *** others,vigorous intermodal coupling through internal resonance(IR)has drawn much attention because it can suggest new strategies to steer energy within a micro/nanomechanical ***,a challenge in utilizing IR in practical applications is imposing the required frequency commensurability between vibrational modes of a nonlinear micro/***,we experimentally and analytically investigate the 1:2 and 2:1 IR in a clamped–clamped beam resonator to provide insights into the detailed mechanism of *** is demonstrated that the intermodal coupling between the second and third flexural modes in an asymmetric structure(e.g.,nonprismatic beam)provides an optimal condition to easily implement a strong IR with high energy transfer to the internally resonated *** this case,the quadratic coupling between these flexural modes,originating from the stretching effect,is the dominant nonlinear mechanism over other types of geometric *** design strategies proposed in this paper can be integrated into a typical micro/nanoelectromechanical system(M/NEMS)via a simple modification of the geometric parameters of resonators,and thus,we expect this study to stimulate further research and boost paradigm-shifting applications exploring the various benefits of IR in micro/nanosystems.

We investigated the anti-angiogenic effects of the water extract of HangAmDan (WEHAD),which is a crude extract of nine Korean medicinal substances of animal and plant *** human umbilical vein endothelial cells,WEHAD significantly inhibited bFGF-induced proliferation,adhesion,migration,and capillary tube *** used an antibody array to perform an analysis of signaling proteins,which showed up-regulated expression of various proteins including RAD51,RAD52,and p73,and down-regulated expression of *** vessel formation in a chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) treated with WEHAD was markedly reduced in length compared with a PBS-treated control *** results suggest that inhibition of angiogenesis by WEHAD may be the mechanism of action for the anti-cancer effects of HAD.

Unexploded ordnance(UXO)poses a threat to soldiers operating in mission areas,but current UXO detection systems do not necessarily provide the required safety and efficiency to protect soldiers from this *** technological advancements in artificial intelligence(AI)and small unmanned aerial systems(sUAS)present an opportunity to explore a novel concept for UXO *** new UXO detection system proposed in this study takes advantage of employing an AI-trained multi-spectral(MS)sensor on *** paper explores feasibility of AI-based UXO detection using sUAS equipped with a single(visible)spectrum(SS)or MS digital electro-optical(EO)***,it describes the design of the Deep Learning Convolutional Neural Network for UXO detection,the development of an AI-based algorithm for reliable UXO detection,and also provides a comparison of performance of the proposed system based on SS and MS sensor imagery.

Actinomycosis is an uncommon chronic infectious disease. Common sites of involvement include the cervicofacial, thoracic and abdominopelvic regions. In abdominopelvic actinomycosis, the ileocecal region, including the appendix, is the most commonly involved site. In some reports, limited appendiceal actinomycosis has revealed a thickened appendiceal wall with peri-appendiceal inflammation as acute appendicitis or perforated appendicitis. We experienced pathologically confirmed intraluminal limited appendiceal actinomycosis without peri-appendiceal infiltration. Here, we report the computed tomography and ultrasound findings.

This is a rare case of a patient with mental disorder, who ingested nineteen pieces of fragmented bamboo *** managed the multiple gastric foreign bodies with a sclerotherapy overtube, and these multiple fragmented bamboo chopsticks were retrieved successfully using the endoscopic method. There were only multiple erosions with hemorrhage over the mucosa of fundus and body of stomach,no fragments adhered or perforated through the gastric *** mucosa of esophagus was intact. The patient tolerated the procedure well and without any major *** sharp elongated gastric foreign bodies can be successfully and safely retrieved by using protective sheath of oropharynx without assistance with laparoscopy or surgical intervention. This renders an option for the endoscopists to manage multiple elongated gastric foreign bodies.

Characterization of bone quality during the healing process is crucial for successful implantation procedures and patient *** this study,a bone implant specimen that underwent a 4-week healing period was *** atomic force microscopy(AFM)was employed to simultaneously obtain the morphology and elastic modulus maps of the newly formed and pre-existing bone regions within the *** indicate that the new bone matrix possessed lower miner-alization levels and presented larger,uneven mineral grains,exhibiting the attributes of a woven *** the other hand,the old bone matrix exhibited a more uniform and mineralized structure,which is characteristic of lamellar *** new bone had a lower overall elastic modulus than the old *** AFM further confrmed that the new bone displayed three regions comprising unmineralized,partially mineralized,and fully matured sections,which indicate a turbulent change in its ***,the old bone exhibited two sections comprising partially mineralized and matured bone parts,which denote the fnal phase of *** study provides valuable insights into the morphological and nanome-chanical diferences between the old and new bone matrixes and presents a novel approach to investigate bone quality at diferent phases of the bone-healing process.

We study a spherically symmetric spacetime made of an anisotropic fluid whose radial equation-of-state is given by p_1=-ρ. This case allows analytic solutions and is a good example for studying the static configuration of a black hole plus matter. For a given equation-of-state parameter w_2 = p_2/ρ for angular directions, we find the exact solutions of the Einstein equation described by two parameters. We classify the solutions into six types based on the behavior of the metric function. Depending on the parameters, the solutions can have event and cosmological horizons. One of the solution types corresponds to a generalization of the Reissner-Nordstr(o|¨)m black hole, the thermodynamic properties for which are obtained in a simple form. The solutions are stable under radial perturbations.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of gastrectomy on diabetes mellitus(DM) and hypertension(HTN) in non-obese gastric cancer patients. METHODS: A total of 100000 patients, diagnosed with either type 2 DM or HTN, were randomly selected from the 2004 Korean National Health Insurance System claims. Among them, 360 diabetes and 351 hypertensive patients with gastric cancer who had been regularly treated without chemotherapy from January 2005 to December 2010 were selected. They were divided into three groups according to their treatment methods: total gastrectomy(TG), subtotal gastrectomy(STG) and endoscopic resection(ER). RESULTS: The drug discontinuation rate of antidiabetic and anti-hypertensive agents after gastric cancer treatment was 9.7% and 11.1% respectively. DM appeared to be improved more frequently(22.8%) and earlier(mean ± SE 28.6 ± 1.8 mo) in TG group than in the two other groups [improved in 9.5% of ER group(37.4 ± 1.1 mo) and 6.4% of STG group(47.0 ± 0.8 mo)]. The proportion of patients treated with multiple drugs decreased more notably in TG group compared to others(P = 0.001 in DM, and P = 0.035 in HTN). In TG group, adjusted hazard ratio for theimprovement of DM was 2.87(95%CI: 1.15-7.17) in a multi-variate analysis and better control of DM was observed with survival analysis(P mic control, to a greater extent than either ER or STG in non-obese diabetic patients.
