Protective effect of insulin and glucose at different concentrations on penicillin-induced astrocyte death on the primer astroglial cell line

Astrocytes perform many functions in the brain and spinal *** metabolism is important for astroglial cells and astrocytes are the only cells with insulin receptors in the *** common antibiotic penicillin is also a chemical agent that causes degenerative effect on neuronal *** aim of this study is to show the effect of insulin and glucose at different concentrations on the astrocyte death induced by penicillin on primer astroglial cell *** is well known that intracranial penicillin treatment causes neuronal cell death and it is used for experimental epilepsy model *** studies showed that insulin and glucose might protect neuronal cell in case of proper ***,the present study is about the effect of insulin and glucose against astrocyte death induced by *** this purpose,newborn rat brain was extracted and then mechanically dissociated to astroglial cell suspension and finally grown in culture *** were maintained for 2 weeks prior to being used in these *** concentrations of insulin（0,1,3 nM）and glucose（0,3,30 mM）were used in media without penicillin and with 2 500μM *** decreased the viability of astroglial cell *** highest cell viability appeared in medium with 3 nM insulin and 3 mM glucose but without ***,in medium with penicillin,the best cell survival was in medium with 1 nM insulin but without glucose. We concluded that insulin and glucose show protective effects on the damage induced by penicillin to primer astroglial cell ***,cell survival depends on concentrations of insulin and glucose *** results of this study will help to explain cerebrovascular pathologies parallel to insulin and glucose conditions of patient after intracranial injuries.

Robust backstepping Control of a Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle under Colored Noises

Advances in software and hardware technologies have facilitated the production of quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs).Nowadays,people actively use quadrotor UAVs in essential missions such as search and rescue,counter-terrorism,firefighting,surveillance,and cargo *** performing these tasks,quadrotors must operate in noisy ***,a robust controller design that can control the altitude and attitude of the quadrotor in noisy environments is of great *** researchers have focused only on white Gaussian noise in their studies,whereas researchers need to consider the effects of all colored noises during the operation of the *** study aims to design a robust controller that is resistant to all colored ***,a nonlinear quadrotormodel was created with ***,a backstepping controller resistant to colored noises was *** backstepping controller was tested under Gaussian white,pink,brown,blue,and purple *** and Lyapunov-based controller designswere also carried out,and their time responses(rise time,overshoot,settling time)were compared with those of the backstepping *** the simulations,time was in seconds,altitude was in meters,and roll,pitch,and yaw references were in *** and settling time values were in seconds,and overshoot value was in *** the obtained values are examined,simulations prove that the proposed backstepping controller has the least overshoot and the shortest settling time under all noise types.

Cystic lesions of the anterior mediastinum in children suggest a well-known group of benign lesions that are comparatively *** cysts(TCs)are mostly positioned in the anterior mediastinum and some patients in the *** TCs classified as congenital intra-thoracic mesothelial cysts are commonly asymptomatic and have slight clinical *** TC,which can mimic another anterior mediastinal cystic tumor and is seen in adults,is more clinically *** is a sporadic mediastinal lesion thought to arise in the course of acquired *** mediastinal cysts represent 3%-6%of all mediastinal tumors and 10%-18%of radiologically reported mediastinal *** TCs are uncommon and it is hard to know their true *** 60%of cases with mediastinal TCs are asymptomatic,and the remainder of patients complains of nonspecific symptoms(e.g.,chest pain,dyspnea,or cough).The literature suggests that most cysts are benign,but an indefinite percentage may have a neoplastic process and result in significant compressive symptoms over *** symptoms of TCs vary depending on the *** addition,frequent symptoms at the appearance of enlarged benign thymic and mediastinal cysts generally contain compressive symptoms(e.g.,respiratory distress,thymic pain,and symptoms related to Horner syndrome,hoarseness,dysphonia,dyspnea,orthopnea,wheezing,and fever).Many TCs have cystic density and a neat border and are simple to diagnose with radiological ***,some TCs are hard to identify before surgery and may be misidentified as thymomas depending on their site and computed tomography *** by thoracotomy,median sternotomy,or video-assisted techniques is essential for conclusive diagnosis,management,and abolition of relapse of anterior mediastinal masses and *** examination may be required after *** the extent of the mass and the preliminary inability to make a definitiv

Effect of oophorectomy and exogenous estrogen replacement on liver injury in experimental obstructive jaundice

AIM: To investigate the role of estrogen on liver injury in an experimental obstructive jaundice ***: Three groups of female rats were constituted; group 1 was oophorectomized and given E2 (n = 14), group 2 was oophorectomized and given placebo (n = 14), and group 3 was sham operated (n = 14). Fourteen days following constitution of bile duct ligation, all groups were compared in terms of serum tests, histopathologic parameters, and tissue levels of IFN-γ and ***: The parameters representing both the injury and/or the reactive response and healing were more pronounced in groups 1 and 2 (χ2 = 17.2, χ2 = 10.20; χ2 = 12.4, P bo group (P bserved to be more pronounced in the groups 1 and 3 (χ2 = 6.13, P both the liver damage and healing. In the conditions of bile duct obstruction, estrogen significantly changed the cytokine milieu in the liver.

The valve side of the converter in the high‐voltage direct current is subjected to mixed voltages such as composite AC&DC *** this study,the effects of the homo-geneity of electric field on breakdown voltage were investigated for different�DC component amplitudes of the composite *** field efficiency factor was calcu-lated using mean and maximum field strengths for all of *** of breakdown voltage of air was examined under the composite AC&DC voltage for different ratios�*** one result of the study,the breakdown occurs at the positive half‐wave of the AC voltage despite−DC voltage being applied due to positive corona discharge *** breakdown point is named as the polarity change *** breakdown voltage increases with the decrease of DC voltage component up to polarity change point in non‐uniform electric *** less uniform electric field,the AC breakdown voltage was measured slightly higher than the DC breakdown *** less uniform electric field,as the ratio of the applied AC voltage to DC voltage increases,the breakdown voltage gradually approaches the AC breakdown *** result is similar to the result ob-tained for the+DC component in non‐uniform electric field experiments.

Emergency admissions due to swallowed foreign bodies in adults

AIM:To study a retrospective analysis of patients who presented to the emergency departments(ED)with complaints related to foreign body ***:Patients older than 16 years of age who presented to the ED between January 1stand December 31stof 2010 with complaints related to swallowed foreign bodies were identified from electronic health records and patient ***:A total of 100 patients presented with a complaint of foreign body ingestion during the study ***,an X-ray was performed on 75 patients,and a fiberoptic evaluation was performed on45 patients.A foreign body was detected in 46(46%)*** diagnostic yield of the X-ray was 27(36%)out of 75 patients,while the diagnostic yield of the fiberoptic evaluations was 21(47%)out of 45 *** detected foreign bodies were mostly located in the esophagus(17 out of 46 foreign bodies detected).When the types of ingested foreign bodies were evaluated,52(52%)patients reported ingesting food,and19(19%)patients reported swallowing *** X-ray was performed on 33 patients with accidental food ingestions but yielded a positive result in only two *** 12 out of 21 patients with accidental food ingestion who underwent fiberoptic evaluation,the foreign material was detected and ***:Plain radiography is helpful in the localization of radiopaque swollen foreign bodies,while fiberoptic methods are useful as both diagnostic and therapeutic tools,regardless of radiopacity.

Effect of a semi electro-mechanical engine valve on performance and emissions in a single cylinder spark ignited engine

In this study, an electro-mechanical valve （EMV） system for the intake valve ofa fottr stroke, single cylinder, overhead valve and spark ignition （SI） engine was designed and constructed. An engine with the EMV system and a standard engine were tested to observe the effects of the EMV on engine performance and emissions at different speeds under full load. The EMV engine showed improved engine power, engine torque and break specific fuel consumption （bSFC）. A 66% decrease in CO emissions was also obtained with the EMV system, but hydrocarbons （HC） and NOx emissions increased by 12% and 13% respectively.

Modelling the site index of Pinus pinaster plantations in Turkey using ecological variables

The determination of site productivity in forest ecosystems plays a crucial role in resource *** study was carried out to identify relationships between site characteristics and height growth of Corsican maritime pine(Pinus pinaster Ait.)plantations in ***-nine sample plots>20 years of age were selected from locations with different inclinations,aspects,elevations,slope positions and site *** samples were taken at various *** and age were measured on a dominant tree after felling in each *** and chemical properties of the soil were *** between site index(SI 25)and physiographic factors,climatic attributes as well as soil properties were evaluated using correlation analysis and multiple regression *** index was significantly related with annual precipitation,mean spring rainfall,rainfall June to September,rainfall of the driest month,length of the dry period,mean maximum temperature,mean temperature of the warmest month,stoniness of the soil,sand,silt,clay,pH,electrical conductivity,and available water *** regression accounted for 57.9%of variations in height *** models obtained can be used to determine the site index of potential areas in Turkey for maritime *** can be said that the productivity of maritime pine may decline in the future due to global climate change.
