Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency is the most common enzymopathy worldwide. The precise prevalence of G6PD is unknown in Burkina Faso. The objective of the study was to describe the difficulties to diagnose this disease at the Souro Sanou University hospital (CHUSS) in Bobo-Dioulasso. It involved five patients comprising one child with homozygous SS sickle cell disease, one adolescent screened following a family investigation, and three adults including a man and two women. Blood smear stained with May Grunwald Giemsa was performed to look for specific signs of G6PD-deficient red blood cell and brilliant cresyl Blue for Heinz Bodies. A microscope Olympus BX53 equipped with a Camera (XC10) and connected to a computer was used to read blood smears and capture images. Genes sequencing by Sanger method were performed in a specialized laboratory in molecular genetics. For each analysis, the protocol and instructions of the equipment and reagent manufacturer were applied. Of the five patients, three had anemia and only one had hyperreticulocytosis. Two patients had biological signs of hemolysis and one patient had an elevated CRP. Blood smear stained with MGG and cresyl blue showed specific signs of G6PD-deficient red blood cells and Heinz bodies in all patients. Biochemical analysis and molecular typing confirmed G6PD deficiency. The presence of G6PD-deficient red blood cells in the blood smear guides the diagnosis of G6PD deficiency. The diagnosis is biochemical and is based on the combined measurement of G6PD plus pyruvate kinase and/or hexokinase.

Caregivers are highly exposed to blood exposure accidents (BEA). The objective of our study is to determine the frequency of BEA and to identify the predictive factors for the occurrence of BEAs among caregivers at the Kaolack Regional Hospital (KRH). It is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study of KRH’s caregivers. The data were collected during the period from 16 to 26 April 2018. The multivariate analysis was carried out using the binary logistic regression model with a dependent variable (occurrence of blood exposure accidents) and 5 explanatory variables (sex, age, service of belonging, professional category and seniority in the profession). A total of 115 caregivers were surveyed out of 144. It is noted that 68 caregivers (59.1%) have had at least one BEA in the previous 12 months. The age of caregivers significantly reduces the risk of developing a BEA (p = 0.004, CI [0.04 - 0.21]);belonging to the age group [20 - 40 years] increases the risk of a BEA by 6.66. Sex significantly influences the occurrence of BEA with a (p = 0.013, CI [1.47 - 19.4]);men are 5 times more likely to develop BEA. The risk of a BEA occurring varies according to the professional category. Senior health technicians have a significantly 50 times lower risk of occurrence of a BEA (p = 0.007, CI [0.00 - 0.24)]. Nurses and midwives have a 5.8 lower risk of developing BEAs (p = 0.031, CI [0.03 - 0.75]). The risk of occurrence of BEAs varies according to the service of belonging;medicine service caregivers have a significantly 50-fold lower risk of developing BEAs (p = 0.004, CI [0.00 - 0.17]). The identified risk factors will be used to better guide our BEAs prevention interventions.

Introduction: There are very few programmes to delay or prevent diabetes in Africa. This study aims to evaluate the communication plan implementation to reduce risk factors for Type 2 diabetes in people at risk. methods: The cross-sectional evaluative study focuses on the resources used for the implementation of the programme, the activities carried out and the beneficiaries of the programme. The non-probabilistic method was used to select. All target populations under study with appropriate sampling techniques. The performance of the communication plan implementation for behaviour change was assessed through the three sub-variables of evaluation of Donabedian health programmes: structure, process and results. The components assessment was based on the Varkevisser scale. The performance of the communication plan implementation for behaviour change was obtained by the sum of the scores of the three sub-variables. Results: The performance of the communication plan implementation for behaviour change was satisfactory in all programme villages at 89%. The establishment of the research team, the management team and the technical team, the availability of financial resources on a timely basis, the follow-up of nutritionists, sports teachers and peer educators, the implementation of the programme package and the home coaching of the targets were effective in all the programme villages of the study. The scores for structure performance, process performance, and results performance were 100%, 95%, and 83.8%, respectively. The involvement of the entire research team, the commitment of local authorities and the motivation of the targets were also important in the obtained result. Conclusion: This study shows that effective T2D preventive communication is possible at community level in Benin and probably in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis (NASH), characterized by an excessive accumulation of lipids in the liver, is strongly associated with metabolic Syndrome, which groups together a constellation of cardiovascular risk factors that make it an emerging public health problem on a global scale. The objective of this study was to review the state of knowledge on metabolic Syndrome and NASH in the Ivorian population. It was a retrospective study conducted over a period of 2 months at the Diabetes Endocrinology Department of the University Hospital Centre (CHU) of Yopougon. It included all patients of any age and sex who were hospitalized or received consultation. The criteria of the metabolic Syndrome defined by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) were used to define and calculate the prevalence of the metabolic Syndrome. Our study found a prevalence of 18.66% of metabolic Syndrome according to the IDF criteria and a prevalence of 3.33% of NASH in a population of 150 patients hospitalized or received in consultation. There was a predominance of women and older subjects, so the current level of knowledge about metabolic Syndrome and NASH was low in our study population with only 12%. Indeed, patients over 50 years of age were at higher risk of developing metabolic Syndrome and NASH. Apart from hyperglycemia, abdominal obesity and arterial hypertension were the most common criteria. Finally, age and body mass index (BMI) were significantly associated with the presence of metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH). However, the awareness of the population, the respect of food hygiene and the implementation of recommended strategies are essential elements in the eradication of these different pathologies.

In this paper, combination of cubic nonlinearity and time delay is designed to improve the performance of a viscoelastic isolation system with a power-form restoring force. Based on the method of multiple scales, the frequency response and stability are considered. The viscoelastic damping coefficient is shown to induce multi-valued responses and frequency island phenomenon. Then, equivalent damping and jump avoidance condition are proposed to interpret the effect of feedback control loop on dynamic behaviors. Furthermore, the effects of time delays on frequency response and performance of controllers are presented. With the purpose of improving the stability and reducing the vibration, suitable feedback parameter pairs are determined. Last, the effects of the system parameters on the energy transmissibility is investigated.

Introduction: Their efficacy in preventing thrombotic and embolic events has been proven in numerous studies, but their narrow therapeutic index requires particular vigilance, especially in terms of biology. In addition, treatment-related hemorrhagic complications are not uncommon. This study explores the influence of dietary vitamin K restriction on the efficacy of antivitamin K treatment at the University Cardiology Clinic of CNHU-HKM. methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study that took place from 25 April to 29 August 2019. Patients’ dietary behaviors and successive INR values were collected. Information on dietary intake was obtained by 2 non-consecutive 24-hour recalls. The effectiveness of VKA treatment was assessed by the “Time in Therapeutic Range” (TTR) of the INR. VKA treatment was considered effective for a TTR greater than 65%. Results: At the end of this study, 40 patients were surveyed. The mean age of the participants was 58.05 years ± 13.32 years, with a sex ratio of 1.35. Complete arrhythmia due to atrial fibrillation was the main indication for VKA treatment (37.50%) and fluindione was the most commonly prescribed drug (77.50%). The duration of treatment was less than or equal to 2 years in 47.5% of the subjects surveyed. Before starting treatment, 85% of patients received advice on restricting vitamin K-rich foods, and 45% of patients reported “food burnout” after a period of compliance with the restriction. The majority of respondents (97.50%) complied with the restriction on vitamin K-rich foods. All respondents had high energy intakes and a poor distribution of macronutrients, with a predominance of carbohydrates and proteins. 2.5% of respondents were on effective anti-vitamin K therapy with a TTR of over 65%. Conclusion: Restriction of vitamin K-rich foods is not conducive to effective treatment with vitamin K antagonists.
