Linseed is a multipurpose crop and the crop needs further improvement to increase production and yield due to its high value and *** study aimed to assess the extent and pattern of genetic variability of forty linseed genotypes based on diverse agro–morphological and yield *** field experiment was conducted following a Randomized Complete Block Design with three *** germplasm showed a wide range of phenotypic expression,genetic variability and heritability for 30 studied traits.A low to high phenotypic coeffi-cient of variation(PCV)and genotypic coefficient of variation(GCV)were *** lowest genotypic(σ2 g)and phenotypic variances(σ2 p)were found in capsule diameter(CD),length of calyx(LC),capsule length(CL),seed length(SL),and seed breadth(SB).High broad-sense heritability(h2 b)with high genetic advance as a percentage of mean(GAM)were observed in days to germination started(DGS),days to 80%emergence(DE),plant height at 28 and 40 DAS,number of flowers(NFPP),filled capsules(NFCPP)and yield per plant(YPP)indicating additive gene action exists for these *** cluster analysis separated 40 genotypes into five clusters,where Clusters I to V assembled with 13,4,4,5 and 14 genotypes,*** yield and yield attributes,Cluster-IV(G3,G4,G6,G10 and G31)genotypes showed promising while,Cluster-II(G2,G16,G35,G36)and Cluster-III(G1,G33,G39 and G40)genotypes were dominant on plant morphological *** on principal component analysis(PCA),few characters such as YPP,NFPP,NFCPP,days to first flowering and capsule formation,early emergence,days to branch initiation and plant heights at different growth stages revealed important and effective traits for consideration in the selection of linseed breeding programs.

Logarithmic sensitivity ratio elucidates thermal transport physics in multivariate thermoreflectance experiments

We mathematically derived a sensitivity-based method that identifies the thermal transport physics and parameters suitable for multivariate nonlinear fits in a frequency-domain thermoreflectance (FDTR) experiment. Modern electronic devices often consist of heterogeneous nanolayers with multiple unknown thermal transport properties. However, simultaneous fitting in a single experiment for these unknown parameters will produce unreliable results if they are correlated. Current methods to identify such correlations are unreliable. This unreliability has impeded the accuracy and speed of characterizing the unknown thermal properties of such multilayer stacks. Our proposed logarithmic sensitivity ratio (LSR) analysis can evaluate the feasibility of fitting a pair of unknown parameters and clarify the governing thermal transport physics. The effectiveness and convenience of this analysis were studied using Monte Carlo simulations and actual FDTR experiments for fitting up to three unknown parameters. The principle behind this method can be extended to other techniques where multivariate fits are needed. © 2023

The effect of hemicellulose on the interparticle frictional behavior of lignocellulosic biomass particulates

Lignocellulosic biomass material sourced from plants and herbaceous sources is considered as a prospective feedstock of inexpensive,potentially carbon-neutral *** biomass is structurally built on cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin,which are present in varying concentrations based on the feedstock type and play distinct and not well understood mechanical functions in the flow *** frictional characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass particulates influence their flow behavior in ***,it is important to fundamentally investigate the relative contribution of cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin to the frictional ***,these three biopolymers are interwoven into a complex matrix in the lignocellulosic biomass,thus making it hard to quantify the contribution of each *** this study,we selectively remove hemicellulose from switchgrass and investigate the effects of its diminishing concentration on the coefficient of *** observed that the angle of repose and,therefore,the coefficient of friction for a loose assembly of the control and treated switchgrass samples decrease with decreasing hemicellulose *** indicates the frictional resistance to flow for biomass particulate assemblies is at least proportional to the hemicellulose *** also established that the observed changes in the frictional behavior were not due to particle morphological characteristics.

Smart grid constrained optimal control is a complex issue due to the constant growth of grid complexity and the large volume of data available as input to smart device *** this context,traditional centralized control paradigms may suffer in terms of the timeliness of optimization results due to the volume of data to be processed and the delayed asynchronous nature of the data *** address these limits of centralized control,this paper presents a coordinated,distributed algorithm based on distributed,local controllers and a central coordinator for exchanging summarized global state *** proposed model for exchanging global state information is resistant to fluctuations caused by the inherent interdependence between local controllers,and is robust to delays in information *** addition,the algorithm features iterative refinement of local state estimations that is able to improve local controller ability to operate within network *** of the proposed coordinated,distributed algorithm through simulation shows its effectiveness in optimizing a global goal within a complex distribution system operating under constraints,while ensuring network operation stability under varying levels of information exchange delay,and with a range of network sizes.

Nonlinear anisotropic finite element analysis of liquefiable tunnel–sand–pile interaction under seismic excitation

Nonlinear time‐history analysis can be used to determine the liquefiable behaviors of the tunnel-sand-pile interaction(TSPI)model with the consideration of sand *** study presents the nonlinear response of the TSPI model with the existence of liquefaction under seismic *** analysis reveals that tunnel and pile behave as isotropic elements,while sand shows isotropic,orthotropic,and anisotropic *** constitutive models including UBC3D‐PLM(two yield surfaces associated with the hardening rule),NGI‐ADP(yielding with associated plastic potential function),and a user‐specified constitutive model are adopted to evaluate the isotropic,orthotropic,and anisotropic behaviors of *** this basis,two finite element‐based codes(ETABS 18.1.1 and Plaxis 3D)are used to evaluate sand behaviors and *** of the tunnel,sand,pile,and excess pore pressure ratio are recorded in the interaction zone by varying the pile diameter,tunnel diameter,and tunnel-pile *** with the orthotropic and isotropic conditions,lower variations of results are found in the anisotropic condition,except for the case of generation of excess pore *** addition,the present reanalysis results are in agreement with previous analytical and case study results,which further indicates the effectiveness of the finite element‐based numerical codes.

Modelling lane-changing execution behaviour in a connected environment:A grouped random parameters with heterogeneity-in-means approach

Lane-changing is performed either to follow the route to a planned destination(i.e.,mandatory lane-changing)or to achieve better driving conditions(i.e.,discretionary lane-changing).A connected environment is expected to assist during lane-changing manoeuvres,but it is not known well how driving aids in a connected environment assist lane-changing *** such,this study investigates the impact of a connected environment on lanechanging execution time during mandatory and discretionary lane-changing *** this end,this study designed an advanced driving simulator experiment where 78 drivers performed these manoeuvres on a simulated motorway in three randomised driving *** conditions were baseline(without driving aids),a fully functioning connected environment with a perfect supply of driving aids,and an impaired connected environment with delayed driving *** lane-changing execution time has been modelled by a random parameters hazard-based duration modelling approach,which accounts for the panel nature of data and captures the unobserved *** suggest that,compared to the baseline condition(i.e.,a non-connected environment),most of the drivers in the connected environment take more time to complete their lane-changing manoeuvres,indicating drivers’safer lane-changing execution behaviour in the connected *** communication delay driving condition has been found to have more deteriorating effects on mandatory lanechanging manoeuvres than discretionary lane-changing *** study concludes that(i)the connected environment increases safety margin during both lane-changing manoeuvres,and(ii)a higher magnitude of safety margin is observed during mandatory lane-changing manoeuvres whereby drivers have a higher need for assistance.

Integrating machine learning and extreme value theory for estimating crash frequency-by-severity via AI-based video analytics

Traffic conflict techniques rely heavily on the proper identification of conflict extremes,which directly affects the prediction performance of extreme value *** sampling techniques,namely,block maxima and peak over threshold,form the core of these *** studies have demonstrated the inefficacy of extreme value models based on these sampling approaches,as their crash estimates are too imprecise,hindering their widespread practical ***,anomaly detection techniques for sampling conflict extremes have been used,but their application has been limited to estimating crash frequency without considering the crash severity *** address this research gap,this study proposes a hybrid model of machine learning and extreme value theory within a bivariate framework of traffic conflict measures to estimate crash frequency by severity *** particular,modified time-to-collision(MTTC)and expected post-collision change in velocity(Delta-V orΔV)have been proposed in the hybrid modeling framework to estimate rear-end crash frequency by severity ***-end conflicts were identified through artificial intelligence-based video analytics for three four-legged signalized intersections in Brisbane,Australia,using four days of ***-stationary bivariate hybrid generalized extreme value models with different anomaly detection/sampling techniques(isolation forest and minimum covariance determinant)were *** non-stationarity of traffic conflict extremes was handled by parameterizing model parameters,including location,scale,and both location and scale parameters *** results indicate that the bivariate hybrid models can estimate severe and non-severe crashes when compared with historical crash records,thereby demonstrating the viability of the proposed approach.A comparative analysis of two anomaly techniques reveals that the isolation forest model marginally outperforms the minimum covariance determinant ***,the modeling f

The largest monkeypox virus(MPXV)outbreak of the 21st century occurred in 2022,which caused epidemics in many *** to WHO,physical contact with infected persons,contaminated surfaces,or affected animals might be a source of this virus transmission.A febrile sickness including few symptoms found in MPX *** rash,lesions,fever,headache,fatigue,and muscle aches symptoms were observed commonly for this *** and in vitro,studies have shown that the antiviral medications cidofovir and brincidofovir are effective against *** first-generation vaccinia virus vaccine was developed in 1960,and it helped to protect against MPXV with its side effects.A second-generation vaccination with limitations was launched in ***,the CDC advised vaccinations for risk groups in endemic countries,including positive patients and hospital *** JYNNEOS vaccine,administered in 2 doses,also provides protection from *** article presents concisely the most recent findings regarding epidemiology,genomic transmission,signs and symptoms,pathogenesis,diagnosis,and therapeutic interventions for MPXV,which may be helpful to researchers and *** declared that MPX was no longer a global health emergency due to its declining case rate,and a number of countries have reported new *** research-based investigations must be carried out based on the 2022 outbreak.

Concrete is the most widely utilized material for construction purposes,second only to water,in the ever-increasing need for construction *** is a brittle material and possesses a high risk of crack formation and consequent ***,which allows chemicals to enter and can cause concrete structures to lose their physico-mechanical and durability *** and rehabilitating concrete structures involves high costs and leads to various repair methods including coating,adhesives,polymers,supplementary cementitious materials(SCMs),and *** of the latest technologies is the use of microorganisms in *** added microorganisms lead to calcite precipitation and thereby heal the cracks *** study presents a comprehensive literature survey on bacteria-included concrete,before which a bibliographic survey is performed using VOSViewer *** addition to regular bacterial concrete,this study focuses on also using SCMs and fibers in bacterial concrete.A detailed literature review with data representation for various mechanical properties including compressive strength(CS),split tensile strength(SS),and flexure strength(FS),along with durability properties including carbonation,water absorption,resistance against chloride ion penetration,gas permeation,and resistance against cyclic freeze-and-thaw is presented.A study on the use of X-ray computed tomography(XCT)in bacterial concrete is highlighted,and the scope for future research,along with identification of the research gap,is presented.
