BACKGROUND Fractional flow reserve(FFR)measurement is commonly used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory to assess the functional significance of coronary arterial *** real-world data on complications and modes of failure of FFR guidewires are *** To characterize these outcomes by analyzing the post-marketing surveillance data from the United States Food and Drug Administration Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience(MAUDE)database for commonly used FFR *** The MAUDE database was queried from January 2010 through April 2020 for 3 FFR guidewires[PressureWireTM X(Abbott),CometTM(Boston Scientific),and VerrataTM(Philips)]by searching for the following events:“Injury”,“malfunction”,“death”,and“other”.This yielded 544 *** excluding incomplete reports,486 reports were *** Guidewire tip fracture was the most commonly reported mode of failure,in 174(35.8%)cases followed by guidewire kinking(n=152,31.3%),communication failure(n=141,29.0%),and shaft fracture(n=67,13.8%).In total,133(27.4%)device failures resulted in patient adverse *** most common adverse event was retained guidewire tip,in 71(53.4%)cases,followed by freshly deployed stent dislodgment(n=26,19.6%)and coronary artery dissection(n=23,17.3%).Seven deaths were *** FFR guidewire failures can occur because of various mechanisms and cause patient adverse *** MAUDE database serves as an important platform for improved collaboration among clinicians,device manufacturers,and regulators to improve device performance and optimize patient *** analysis provides mechanistic insights of FFR guidewire failure and associated adverse events but cannot verify causality or provide a comparison among different guidewires.

Drought is one of the critical conditions for the growth and productivity of many crops including mung bean(Vigna radiata ***).Screening of genotypes for variations is one of the suitable strategies for evaluating crop adaptability and global food *** this context,the study investigated the physiological and biochemical responses of four drought tolerant(BARI Mung-8,BMX-08010-2,BMX-010015,BMX-08009-7),and four drought sensitive(BARI Mung-1,BARI Mung-3,BU Mung-4,BMX-05001)mung bean genotypes under wellwatered(WW)and water deficit(WD)*** WW treatment maintained sufficient soil moisture(22%±0.5%,i.e.,30%deficit of available water)by regularly supplying ***,the WD treatment was maintained throughout the growing period,and water was applied when the wilting symptom *** drought tolerant(DT)genotypes BARI Mung-8,BMX-08010-2,BMX-010015,BMX-08009-7 showed a high level of proline accumulation(2.52–5.99 mg g^(−1) FW),photosynthetic pigment(total chlorophyll 2.96–3.27 mg g^(−1) FW at flowering stage,and 1.62–2.38 mg g^(−1) FW at pod developing stage),plant water relation attributes including relative water content(RWC)(82%–84%),water retention capacity(WRC)(12–14)as well as lower water saturation deficit(WSD)(19%–23%),and water uptake capacity(WUC)(2.58–2.89)under WD condition,which provided consequently higher relative seed *** indicate that the tolerant genotypes gained better physiobiochemical attributes and adaptability in response to drought ***,the genotype BMX-08010-2 showed superiority in terms of those physio-biochemical traits,susceptibility index(SSI)and stress tolerance index(STI)to other *** on the physiological and biochemical responses,the BMX-08010-2 was found to be a suitable genotype for sustaining yield under drought stress,and subsequently,it could be recommended for crop improvement through hybridization *** addition,the identified traits can be used as markers to ide

Biological investigations of medicinal plants of Heliotropium indicum indigenous to Bangladesh

Objective:To investigate the clot lysis,antimicrobic and membrane stabilizing potentials of ethanolic extractives of the leaves of Heliotropium indicum(***).Methods:Crude ethanolic extracts of *** leaves were partitioned successively using solvents of different polarity and subjected to determine qualitatively and quantitatively for the presence of different bioactive constitutes and fractions which were assessed for their possible clot lysis,antimicrobic,and membrane stabilizing activities as compared with the known ***:For the thrombolytic activity,the petroleum ether soluble fraction showed the highest percent of clot lysis(35.4%)among all fractions,while streptokinase and water resulted in 65.15%and 3.77%clot lysis,*** respect to the membrane stabilizing activity,carbon tetrachloride soluble fraction of *** profoundly interdicted the hemolysis of erythrocytes brought about by osmotic induction(39.24%)or by heat(40.20%).The other fractions exhibited less significant membrane stabilizing *** contrast,acetylsalicylic acid resulted in 72.25%±0.30%inhibition of osmotically induced hemolysis and showed a lower level of protection of heat induced hemolysis(42.56%).Crude ethanolic extracts were moderately sensitive against known pathogenic *** pharmacological activities of *** are due to the presence of bioactive compounds,we detected and quantified the presence of significant levels of flavonoid and tannin ***:The outcomes of this research show that the leaves of *** have the potential to be used as a remedy for thrombosis,inflammatory diseases and against few important bacterial pathogens.

Evaluation of modifi ed Alvarado scoring system and RIPASA scoring system as diagnostic tools of acute appendicitis

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is the most common surgical condition presented in emergency departments worldwide. Clinical scoring systems, such as the Alvarado and modified Alvarado scoring systems, were developed with the goal of reducing the negative appendectomy rate to 5%–10%. The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Appendicitis(RIPASA) scoring system was established in 2008 specif ically for Asian populations. The aim of this study was to compare the modif ied Alvarado with the RIPASA scoring system in Kuwait ***: This study included 180 patients who underwent appendectomies and were documented as having "acute appendicitis" or "abdominal pain" in the operating theatre logbook(unit B) from November 2014 to March 2016. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV), negative predictive value(NPV), diagnostic accuracy, predicted negative appendectomy and receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve of the modified Alvarado and RIPASA scoring systems were derived using SPSS statistical ***: A total of 136 patients were included in this study according to our criteria. The cut-off threshold point of the modif ied Alvarado score was set at 7.0, which yielded a sensitivity of 82.8% and a specif icity of 56%. The PPV was 89.3% and the NPV was 42.4%. The cut-off threshold point of the RIPASA score was set at 7.5, which yielded a 94.5% sensitivity and an 88% specif icity. The PPV was 97.2% and the NPV was 78.5%. The predicted negative appendectomy rates were 10.7% and 2.2% for the modif ied Alvarado and RIPASA scoring systems, respectively. Toxicity of selected insecticides against nymph of whitefly （Bemisia tabaci Gennadius）

Bemisia tabaci is one of serious insect pests attacking vegetables and has been difficult to control using conventional insecticides. In the past 10 years, new insecticides have been introduced that provide a diversity of novel modes of action and routes of activity to effectively control whitefly. Consequently, intensive used of insecticides in vegetable cultivation has resulted in reduced susceptibility and develops resistance in agriculture industry. In controlling B. tabaci population, insecticides are the common method used by farmers. This study aimed to determine the most effective insecticide against B tabaci by using LC5o value. This study was conducted at the Crop Protection Laboratory, Faculty of Applied Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia with the controlled room temperature of 24.33 ± 0.14℃ with dark and light ratio of 1：1 （12 hours： 12 hours） is an ideal condition for rearing the insect. The hypothesis of the study is to test if insecticides can control the nymph of whitefly. A total of 50 two-day-old nymphs were treated with insecticides using leaf-dip bioassay procedure. This experiment was replicated three times. The survival rates of the nymphs were analyzed using analysis of variance （ANOVA）. Data on toxicity was analyzed by a special Probit Programme-Single Line Analysis based on Finney （1971）. There was a significant difference （df = 8, F = 85.84, P = 0.000） in survival rate of nymph ofB. tabaci to eight insecticides tested. Among the insecticides tested, dimethoate, chlorpyrifos ＋ cypermethrin and diafenthiuron showed significantly higher survival rate of nymph compared to other treatments. When LC50 values were compared for diafenthiuron which is less potent （LCs0 ---- 2.44）, abamectin was found to be 3.44 times more potent than diafenthiuron, followed by esfenvalerate,acetamiprid, profenofos, chlorpyrifos ＋ cypermethrin and dimethoate, and the least potent was deltamethrin. River water and sediment embody environmental characteristics that give valuable eco-environmental *** to rapid industrialization,the aquatic environment of any urban river can be seriously polluted by heavy metals(HMs).The global concern is caused by heavy metal pollution because of its potential harm to aquatic ecosystems and human *** the Bhairab River,Bangladesh,surface sediment concentrations of globally alarming toxic metals such as arsenic(As),chromium(Cr),cadmium(Cd),and lead(Pb) were measured to determine the ecological and human health risks of the riverine *** average As,Cr,Cd,and Pb concentrations in water were 3.55,31.74,1.44,and23.82 μg/L,respectively,and in sediment were 4.13,34.17,1.66,and 25.46 mg/kg,*** the winter,metals in sediment were higher than during the *** most sediment samples,the enrichment factor(EF),contamination factor(CF),geoaccumulation index(I),pollution load index(PLI) of As,Cr,Cd,and Pb indicated moderate *** potential ecological risk(PER) in sediment followed the descending order of Cd> As> Pb> *** contamination level of toxic metals implied that the condition is frightening and probably severely affecting the aquatic ecology of this riverine ecosystem.

阿司匹林具有退热、消炎、止痛和抗血小板凝集的作用。乙酰水杨酸分子含一个羧基和一个酯基。酯基容易被水解,导致其药效降低,并会对人体产生副作用。本研究的目的是用冻干技术和溶剂挥发技术,以原料的物质的量比为1∶1和1∶2,制备阿司匹林和腐植酸固态络合物。阿司匹林和腐植酸分子间相互作用通过差示扫描量热法(DSC)、X射线衍射(XRD)、傅里叶变换红外光谱学法(FT-IR)和扫描电子显微镜法(SEM)进行研究。用这些技术能清晰表明固态包合络合物的结构。对物质的量比为1∶2冻干络合物研究表明,阿司匹林的稳定性和溶出率显著提高。优选的冻干阿司匹林与腐植酸(1∶2)络合物对抑制鼠爪水肿和抗溃疡作用测得的最低值(0.63±0.10)与单纯的阿司匹林相比,有明显的降低,证明用其治疗具有非常显著的抗炎作用(P<0.05)。
