Ionotropic receptors mediate olfactory learning and memory in Drosophila

Phenylacetaldehyde(PAH),an aromatic compound,is present in a diverse range of fruits including overripe bananas and prickly pear cactus,the two major host fruits for Drosophila *** acts as a potent ligand for the ionotropic receptor 84a(IR84a)in the adult fruit fly and it is detected by the IR84a/IR8a heterotetrameric *** role in the male courtship behavior through IR84a as an environmental aphrodisiac is of additional *** ***,two distinct kinds of olfactory receptors,that is,odorant receptors(ORs)and ionotropic receptors(IRs),perceive the odorant *** display unique structural,molecular,and functional characteristics in addition to having different evolutionary ***,olfactory cues detected by the ORs such as ethyl acetate,1-butanol,isoamyl acetate,1-octanol,4-methylcyclohexanol,*** as aliphatic esters and alcohols have been employed in olfactory classical conditioning using fruit *** underlines the participation of OR-activated olfactory pathways in learning and memory *** study elucidates that likewise ethyl acetate(EA)(an OR-responsive odorant),PAH(an IR-responsive aromatic compound)too can form learning and memory when associated with an appetitive gustatory *** association of PAH with sucrose(PAH/SUC)led to learning and formation of the long-term memory(LTM).Additionally,the Orco^(1),Ir84a^(MI00501),and Ir8a^(1)mutant flies were used to confirm the exclusive participation of the IR84a/IR8a complex in PAH/SUC olfactory associative *** results highlight the involvement of IRs via an IR-activated pathway in facilitating robust olfactory behavior.

Leaf Water Status and Its Relationship with Reproductive Responses of Common Bean (<i>Phaseolus vulgaris</i>L.) Genotypes under Water Stress

Two tolerant (BB24 and BB43) and two susceptible (BARI busbean-2 and BB04) genotypes of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were evaluated for their water status and its relationship with reproductive responses under continuous water stress (50% field capacity) and control (80% field capacity) conditions in a net house covered with polyethylene sheet at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Bangladesh. Under water stress condition, the susceptible genotype namely BB04 exhibited more negative leaf water potential (LWP) which was followed by that of BARI bushbean-2 in all the time of the day except at noon. The tolerant genotype namely BB24 exhibited less negative LWP at noon. The tolerant genotypes maintained higher relative water content (WRC) than the susceptible ones from dawn to dusk. The relationship between RWC and LWP was examined separately for four genotypes under water stress condition. The genotype BB24 showed a smaller decrease in RWC with more negative LWP than BB04. Water stress reduced pod setting ratio. The relationship between the leaf water status and reproductive responses showed that the genotype with a little reduction in mid-day drop of RWC or with high mid-day RWC displayed a high pod setting ratio.

Improving Grain Yield of Indigenous Rice in Tidal Floodplain of Southern Bangladesh: Effect of Seedling Age and Transplanting Method

Rice production in the tidal floodplain of southern Bangladesh is constrained by uncontrolled water. In absence of high yielding varieties suitable for tidal floodplain, farmers grow low yielding indigenous cultivars of tall plant type. This paper reports the effect of agronomic management on the yield and yield components of an indigenous rice cultivar, Sadamota. The trial was conducted in 10 farmers’ plots located widely apart in two upazila (sub-districts)—Jhalakati and Rajapur. 45 d and 60 d old seedlings were transplanted either in rows at 40 cm × 20 cm spacing or following farmers’ traditional practice of random planting. Transplanting 60 d old seedlings produced 14% higher yield compared with 45 d old seedlings. Transplanting in rows also increased grain yield by 12%. The yield increase was associated with hill density, the number of effective tillers per hill and the number of spikelets per panicle.

A Novel LSB Steganography Technique for Enhancing Cloud Security

Steganography is a technique that is frequently used to hide hidden information in multimedia artifacts including music, video, and images. In order to protect data saved in the cloud, this paper presents a steganography method for encrypting sound utilizing LSB-based computation. By using the least significant bit (LSB) of a byte to represent a message and then substituting each LSB bit with a binary message and encrypting a significant quantity of data. The proposed system uses the LSB technique of picture steganography, Multi-Level Encryption Algorithm (MLEA) and Two-Level Encryption Algorithm (TLEA) data encryption to give the highest level of cloud security. Compared to other current schemes, the performance of the suggested method is 1.732125% better on average.

Numerical Study and Optimization of CZTS-Based Thin-Film Solar Cell Structure with Different Novel Buffer-Layer Materials Using SCAPS-1D Software

This study explored the performances of CZTS-based thin-film solar cell with three novel buffer layer materials ZnS, CdS, and CdZnS, as well as with variation in thickness of buffer and absorber-layer, doping concentrations of absorber-layer material and operating temperature. Our aims focused to identify the most optimal thin-film solar cell structure that offers high efficiency and lower toxicity which are desirable for sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources globally. SCAPS-1D, widely used software for modeling and simulating solar cells, has been used and solar cell fundamental performance parameters such as open-circuited voltage (), short-circuited current density (), fill-factor() and efficiency() have been optimized in this study. Based on our simulation results, it was found that CZTS solar cell with Cd0.4Zn0.6S as buffer-layer offers the most optimal combination of high efficiency and lower toxicity in comparison to other structure investigated in our study. Although the efficiency of Cd0.4Zn0.6S, ZnS and CdS are comparable, Cd0.4Zn0.6S is preferable to use as buffer-layer for its non-toxic property. In addition, evaluation of performance as a function of buffer-layer thickness for Cd0.4Zn0.6S, ZnS and CdS showed that optimum buffer-layer thickness for Cd0.4Zn0.6S was in the range from 50 to 150nm while ZnS offered only 50 – 75 nm. Furthermore, the temperature dependence performance parameters evaluation revealed that it is better to operate solar cell at temperature 290K for stable operation with optimum performances. This study would provide valuable insights into design and optimization of nanotechnology-based solar energy technology for minimizing global energy crisis and developing eco-friendly energy sources sustainable and simultaneously.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Presenting as Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: Experience from Bangladesh

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common paediatric malignancy, is a heterogeneous hematologic disease. ALL patients may present with isolated and persistent osteo-articular complaints, lower incidence of hepatomegaly, splenomegaly or lymphadenopathy without clear laboratory features, and misdiagnosed as systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA). Methods: This was a single center cross sectional study over a period of 4 years. Clinic laboratory profiles of 39 ALL children were compared with 39 age and sex-matched sJIA cases. Result: Among 39 ALL patients 89.7% were initially misdiagnosed as sJIA upon clinical presentation. Majority (66.7%) of ALL patients had oligo-articular joint involvement. In sJIA, small joints of the hands were most commonly involved. The total WBC count was significantly higher in ALL patients (p-value 0.0065). CRP and LDH values between the two groups showed significant differences (p-value 0.00006 and 0.00001 respectively). Conclusion: The presentation of leukemia with arthralgia or arthritis makes the diagnosis difficult for the physicians. The diagnosis of sJIA must be made with caution keeping the possibility of haematological malignancy in mind.

ZnO Incorporated Acrylamide Grafted Chitosan Based Composite Film for Advanced Wound Healing Applications

This study was carried out to prepare ZnO nanoparticles incorporated acrylamide grafted chitosan composite film for possible biomedical application especially drug loading in wound healing. ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method from zinc acetate di-hydrate and incorporated in acrylamide grafted chitosan. FT-IR and TGA of the prepared composite film confirmed the successful incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles in the acrylamide-grafted polymer matrix. SEM images showed that the ZnO nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed on the porous matrix of the composite film. Water uptake and buffer uptake analysis revealed that the composite film could hold water and buffer sufficiently, which facilitated the absorption of exudate from the wound site. Amoxicillin was loaded in the prepared composite film and the maximum loading efficiency was found to be 67.33% with drug concentration of 300 ppm. In vitro studies showed greater antimicrobial activity of drug-loaded composite film compared to both pure film and standard antibiotic disc. Finally, the In vivo mouse model showed maximum healing efficiency compared to conventional gauge bandages because the loading of antibiotic in the film produced a synergistic effect and healing time was reduced.

Hurricane or Cyclone is an extreme environment and climate event that has both long-term and short-term impact,and produces environmental emergency *** study has focused on two devastating cyclone disaster events in the 21st century:Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in the USA and Cyclone Sidr in 2007 in *** using secondary-based research and comparative case study technique,this study focuses on different considerations of governmental policy approaches and responses such as encouraging displacement through resettlement or relocation planning,providing resilience-oriented practices or in-situ adaptation practices;discouraging migration by providing soft policies such as rapid response and distribution plan,insurance,tax policies,incentives *** Hurricane Katrina and Cyclone *** highlighting the above considerations,this study found that developing policy at national level as well as strategic and operational measures at state/local level,integrating rights,resilience and relocation issues with existing relevant policies and programs and active community-based preparedness programs can reduce human displacement from hurricane or cyclone disaster.

Nonlinear anisotropic finite element analysis of liquefiable tunnel–sand–pile interaction under seismic excitation

Nonlinear time‐history analysis can be used to determine the liquefiable behaviors of the tunnel-sand-pile interaction(TSPI)model with the consideration of sand *** study presents the nonlinear response of the TSPI model with the existence of liquefaction under seismic *** analysis reveals that tunnel and pile behave as isotropic elements,while sand shows isotropic,orthotropic,and anisotropic *** constitutive models including UBC3D‐PLM(two yield surfaces associated with the hardening rule),NGI‐ADP(yielding with associated plastic potential function),and a user‐specified constitutive model are adopted to evaluate the isotropic,orthotropic,and anisotropic behaviors of *** this basis,two finite element‐based codes(ETABS 18.1.1 and Plaxis 3D)are used to evaluate sand behaviors and *** of the tunnel,sand,pile,and excess pore pressure ratio are recorded in the interaction zone by varying the pile diameter,tunnel diameter,and tunnel-pile *** with the orthotropic and isotropic conditions,lower variations of results are found in the anisotropic condition,except for the case of generation of excess pore *** addition,the present reanalysis results are in agreement with previous analytical and case study results,which further indicates the effectiveness of the finite element‐based numerical codes.
