From hardware store to hospital:a COVID-19-inspired,cost-effective,open-source,in vivo-validated ventilator for use in resource-scarce regions

Resource-scarce regions with serious COVID-19 outbreaks do not have enough ventilators to support critically ill patients,and these shortages are especially devastating in developing *** help alleviate this strain,we have designed and tested the accessible low-barrier in vivo-validated economical ventilator(ALIVE Vent),a COVID-19-inspired,cost-effective,open-source,in vivo-validated solution made from commercially available *** ALIVE Vent operates using compressed oxygen and air to drive inspiration,while two solenoid valves ensure one-way flow and precise cycle *** device was functionally tested and profiled using a variable resistance and compliance artificial lung and validated in anesthetized large *** functional test results revealed its effective operation under a wide variety of ventilation conditions defined by the American Association of Respiratory Care guidelines for ventilator *** large animal test showed that our ventilator performed similarly if not better than a standard ventilator in maintaining optimal ventilation *** FiO2,respiratory rate,inspiratory to expiratory time ratio,positive-end expiratory pressure,and peak inspiratory pressure were successfully maintained within normal,clinically validated ranges,and the animals were recovered without any *** regions with limited access to ventilators,the ALIVE Vent can help alleviate shortages,and we have ensured that all used materials are publicly *** this pandemic has elucidated enormous global inequalities in healthcare,innovative,cost-effective solutions aimed at reducing socio-economic barriers,such as the ALIVE Vent,can help enable access to prompt healthcare and life saving technology on a global scale and beyond COVID-19.

Dibutyl phthalate disrupts[Ca^(2+)]_(i),reactive oxygen species,[ph]_(i),protein kinases and mitochondrial activity,impairing sperm function

To explore the mechanism of sperm dysfunction caused by dibutyl phthalate(DBP),the effects of DBP on intracellular[Ca^(2+)]and[ph],reactive oxygen species(ROS),lipid peroxidation(LPO),mitochondrial permeability transition pore(mPTP)opening,mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP),adenosine triphosphate(ATP)levels,phosphorylation of protein kinase A(PKA)substrate proteins and phosphotyrosine(p-Tyr)proteins,sperm motility,spontaneous acrosome reaction,and tail bending were examined in mouse *** 100μg/mL,DBP significantly increased tail bending and[Ca^(2+)]***,DBP showed biphasic effects on[ph]*** at 10–100μg/mL significantly decreased sperm ***,Ca^(2+)ionophore A23187 decreased[ph]_(i)sperm motility,suggesting that DBP-induced excessive[Ca^(2+)]_(i)decreased sperm *** significantly increased ROS and *** at 100μg/mL significantly decreased mPTP closing,MMP,and ATP levels in spermatozoa,as did h2O2,indicative of ROS-mediatedmitochondrial dysfunction caused by *** as well as h2O2 increased p-Tyr sperm proteins and phosphorylated PKA substrate sperm *** at 1–10μg/mL significantly increased the spontaneous acrosome reaction,suggesting that DBP can activate sperm ***,DBP showed a biphasic effect on intracellular signaling in *** concentrations relevant to seminal ortho-phthalate levels,DBP activates[ph]i,protein tyrosine kinases and PKA via physiological levels of ROS generation,potentiating sperm *** at high doses excessively raises[Ca^(2+)]_(i)and ROS and disrupts[ph]i,impairing the mitochondrial function,tail structural integrity,and sperm motility.

Prominent cycling reversibility and kinetics enabled by CaTiO_(3) protective layer on Zn metal for aqueous Zn-ion batteries

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs) have received considerable attention owing to their various advantages such as safety,low cost,simple battery assembly conditions,and high ionic ***,they still suffer from serious problems,including uncontrollable dendrite growth,corrosion,hydrogen evolution reaction (hER) from water decomposition,electrode passivation,and unexpected *** creation of a uniform artificial nanocrystal layer on the Zn anode surface is a promising strategy for resolving these ***,we propose the use of a perovskite CaTiO_(3)(CTO) protective layer on Zn(CTO@Zn) as a promising approach for improving the performance of *** CTO artificial layer provides an efficient pathway for Zn ion diffusion towards the Zn metal because of the high dielectric constant (εr=180) and ferroelectric characteristics that enable the alignment of dipole moments and redistribute the Zn^(2+)ions in the CTO *** avoiding the direct contact of the Zn anode with the electrolyte solution,the uneven dendrite growth,corrosion,parasitic side reactions,and hER are mitigated,while CTO retains its mechanical and chemical robustness during ***,CTO@Zn demonstrates an improved lifespan in a symmetric cell configuration compared with bare ***@Zn shows steady overpotential (~68 m V) for 1500 h at 1 mA cm^(-2)/0.5 mA h cm^(-2),excelling bare ***,when paired with the V_(2)O_(5)-C cathode,the CTO@Zn//V_(2)O_(5)-C full battery delivers 148.4 mA h g^(-1)(based on the mass of the cathode) after 300 *** study provides new insights into Zn metal anodes and the development of high-performance AZIBs.

Social Edge Service(SES)is an emerging mechanism in the Social Internet of Things(SIoT)orchestration for effective user-centric reliable communication and *** services are affected by active and/or passive attacks such as replay attacks,message tampering because of sharing the same spectrum,as well as inadequate trust measurement methods among intelligent devices(roadside units,mobile edge devices,servers)during computing and *** issues lead to computation and communication overhead of servers and computation *** address this issue,we propose the hybridgrAph-Deep-learning(hAD)approach in two stages for secure communication and ***,the Adaptive Trust Weight(ATW)model with relation-based feedback fusion analysis to estimate the fitness-priority of every node based on directed graph theory to detect malicious nodes and reduce computation and communication ***,a Quotient User-centric Coeval-Learning(QUCL)mechanism to formulate secure channel selection,and Nash equilibrium method for optimizing the communication to share data over edge *** simulation results confirm that our proposed approach has achieved effective communication and computation performance,and enhanced Social Edge Services(SES)reliability than state-of-the-art approaches.

Synchronization of chaotic Lur'e systems with delayed feedback control using deadzone nonlinearity

In this paper we present a synchronization method for chaotic Lur＇e systems by constructing a new piecewise Lyapunov function. Using a delayed feedback control scheme, a delay-dependent stability criterion is derived for the synchronization of chaotic systems that are represented by Lur＇e systems with deadzone nonlinearity. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and by using some properties of the nonlinearity, a new delay-dependent stabilization condition for synchronization is obtained via linear matrix inequality （LMI） formulation. The criterion is less conservative than existing ones, and it will be verified through a numerical example.

A new approach to stability analysis of neural networks with time-varying delay via novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional

In this paper, new delay-dependent stability criteria for asymptotic stability of neural networks with time-varying delays are derived. The stability conditions are represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs） by constructing new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. The proposed functional has an augmented quadratic form with states as well as the nonlinear function to consider the sector and the slope constraints. The less conservativeness of the proposed stability criteria can be guaranteed by using convex properties of the nonlinear function which satisfies the sector and slope bound. Numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Impulsive effect on exponential synchronization of neural networks with leakage delay under sampled-data feedback control

We consider the impulsive effect on the exponential synchronization of neural networks with leakage delay under the sampled-data feedback control. We use an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional combined with the input delay approach and some inequality techniques to derive sufficient conditions that ensure the exponential synchronization of the delayed neural network. The conditions are formulated in terms of the leakage delay, the sampling period, and the exponential convergence rate. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the usefulness and the effectiveness of the results.

Nowadays,the microgrid cluster is an important application scenario for energy *** trading,one of the most important research directions is the issue of *** determine reasonable pricing for the microgrid cluster,data communication is used to create the cyber-physical system(CPS),which can improve the observability of ***,the following works are carried out in the *** the physical layer:1)Regarding trading between microgrids and the load,based on the generalized game theory,an optimal pricing strategy is proposed,which takes into account the interactive relationships among microgrids and transforms the pricing problem into a Nikaido-Isoda function to obtain the optimal prices conveniently;2)Regarding peer-to-peer trading between two microgrids,based on evolutionary game theory and the penalty mechanism,the optimal sale price of the seller is selected with boundary *** the cyber layer,regarding the communication interruption issue existing in pricing(i.e.,the game process),based on the principle of matching the performance of the path with the importance degree of the data,a dynamic regulating method of paths is proposed,i.e.,adopting a new path to re-transmit the interrupted data to the ***,the effect of the proposed strategies is verified by case studies.
