In this paper, a hybrid simplex-improved genetic algorithm (HSIGA) which combines simplex method (Sm) and genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to solve global numerical optimization problems. In this hybrid algorithm some improved genetic mechanisms, for example, non-linear ranking selection, competition and selection among several crossover offspring, adaptive change of mutation scaling and stage evolution, are adopted; and new population is produced through three ap-proaches, i.e. elitist strategy, modified simplex strategy and improved genetic algorithm (IGA) strategy. Numerical experi-ments are included to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

AIm： To detect germline mutations of mLH1, and investigate microsatellite instability and expression of mLH1 in tumor tissues of hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer （HNPCC） with two novel germline mutations, and further investigate the pathobiology of the two novel mutations of mLH1. meTHODS： RNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 12 patients from 12 different families that fulfilled the Amsterdam 11 Criteria for HNPCC. Germline mutations of mLH1 were determined by RT-PCR, followed by cDNA sequencing analysis. PCR-GeneScan analysis was used to investigate microsatellite instability with a panel of five microsatellite markers （BAT26, BAT25, D5S346, D2S123 and mfd15）, along with immunohistochemical staining to detect the expression of mLH1 protein in two patients＇ tumor tissues with novel mutations. ReSULTS： Three germline mutations were found in four patients, one of the mutations has previously been reported, but the other two, CGC→TGC at codon 217 of exon 8 and CCG→CTG at codon 581 of exon 16, have not been reported. The two patients＇ tumor tissues with novel mutations had high-frequency microsatellite instability that showed more than two unstable loci, and both tumors lost their mLH1 protein expression. CONCLUSION： The two novel germline mutations of mLH1 in HNPCC families i.e. CGC→TGC at codon 217 of exon 8 and CCG→CTG at codon 581 of exon 16, are very likely to have pathological significance.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States. While surgical resection remains the only curative option, more than 80% of patients present with unresectable disease. Unfortunately, even among those who undergo resection, the reported median survival is 15-23 mo, with a 5-year survival of approximately 20%. Disappointingly, over the past several decades, despite improvements in diagnostic imaging, surgical technique and chemotherapeutic options, only modest improvements in survival have been realized. Nevertheless, it remains clear that surgical resection is a prerequisite for achieving longterm survival and cure. There is now emerging consensus that a subgroup of patients, previously considered poor candidates for resection because of the relationship of their primary tumor to surrounding vasculature, may benefit from resection, particularly when preceded by neoadjuvant therapy. This stage of disease, termed borderline resectable pancreatic cancer, has become of increasing interest and is now the focus of a multiinstitutional clinical trial. Here we outline the history, progress, current treatment recommendations, and future directions for research in borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

Because the textile industry wastewater is polluted with azo dyes, and in order to improve a process of wastewater remediation, the synthesized sample was evaluated in the photocatalysis of methylene blue and compared with commercial Bi2O3 and anatase TiO2. Structures of bismuth oxide carbonate (Bi2O2CO3) were successfully synthesized using a solution at 0.03 m concentration of sodium bismuthate as precursor and ethylene glycol as dissolvent by solvothermal microwave-assisted approach. The semiconductor catalyst samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XDR), scanning electron microscope (Sem) and Brunauer-emmett-Teller analysis (BeT). The application of the synthesized sample as catalyst, obtained a 68% of degradation. This result is better than the commercial Bi2O3 and close to the anatase TiO2 degradation. This sample shows a variation in the formula (with the presence of carbonates) but also shows an acceptable degradation percentage according to TiO2 results, making Bi2O2CO3 a possible substitute of TiO2.

Fluphenazine (FP) treatment (50mg/kg bw, ip in saline) 30 min before or 6 or 10 h after CCl4 administration (1 ml/kg ip in olive oil) significantly prevented the liver necrosis produced by the hepatotoxin at 24 h. FP had enhancing effects on the covalent binding of CCl4 reactive metabolites to cellular constituents and on CCl4 induced lipid *** lowered bOdy temperature of the CCl4-poisoned animals during the 24 h observation period. The obtained results are compatible but do not prove the hypothesis that calmodulin (Cam) had participation in late occurring events preceding necrosis. FP lowering action on body temperature, however, might also play a role in the effects of this drug on the onset of CCl4 induced liver necrosis. FP levels in liver tissue as determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry evidenced the presence of the drug in amounts suffi cient to inhibit Cam and that suggests that not all preventive effects of FP are due to its indirect actions on the central nervous system via decreased body temperature

Background： In order to improve ICSI, appropiate sperm selection and oocyte activation is necessary. The objective of the present study was to determine the efficiency of fertilization using ICSI with chemically activated ovine oocytes and sperm selected by swim up（SU） or swim up ＋ zona pellucida（SU ＋ ZP） ***： experiment 1, 4–20 replicates with total 821 in vitro matured oocytes were chemically activated with ethanol, calcium ionophore or ionomycin, to determine oocyte activation（precense of one PN）. Treatments showed similar results（54, 47, 42 %, respectively） but statistically differents（P 0.05）.Conclusions： Chemical activation induces higher ovine oocyte activation than mechanical activation. ethanol slightly displays higher oocyte activation than calcium ionophore and ionomicine. Sperm selection with SU ＋ ZP increased AR/A and AR/D rates in comparison with SU in fresh and frozen-thawed sperm. According to this, in terms of fertilization rates, chemical activation after ICSI increased oocyte PN formation compared to mechanical activation. Also, fresh sperm treated with SU and SU ＋ ZP were significantly different than frozen-thawed sperm,but between sperm treatments no significant differences were obtained.
