economic Development through Medicinal and Aromatic Plants(MAPs) Cultivation in Hindu Kush Himalaya Mountains of District Swat, Pakistan

Poverty is pervasive in the Swat Valley in northwestern Pakistan, and most people survive by farming small landholdings. However, many supplement their meager subsistence earnings by collecting and selling plant material for use in herbal medicine. This material is wild-harvested, but collectors seem not to fully appreciate the potential value of the plant material they collect nor the longterm impact their collection has on local plant populations. A model project supported by the International Food Policy Research Institute(IFPRI)persuaded small-scale farmers in four different villages to use some of their land for cultivating traditionally wild-harvested species of medicinal and aromatic plants(MAPs) with high market value. The farmers were provided seeds or rhizomes of five MAPs and asked to monitor their germination and growth on 25 m2 plots during a 12 month period. At the end of the study, growth and yield data from the four localities were compared and economic analyses conducted to determine the profitability of the species based on yields, prevailing market prices, and costs of production. Five of the cultivated species were subsequently marketed and their value evaluated:Sesamum indicum, Linum usitatissimum, Ocimum basilicum, Nigella sativa and Viola pilosa. The MAPs V. pilosa and O. basilicum were the most profitable,whereas Nigella sativa was the least profitable because of its low germination rate. The net income from all but Nigella was higher than that would have been earned by planting the same area with the predominant cereals or tomatoes. In addition to demonstrating the feasibility and financial benefits of cultivating MAPs as a cash crop, this model study identified a number of additional steps that would increase the benefits of MAPs cultivation in this area.A combination of specialized education, market infrastructure development and a small loans program would enable farmers to increase their agricultural income without damaging the area's pl

Integration of Wind and PV Systems Using Genetic-Assisted Artificial Neural Network

The prominence of Renewable energy Sources(ReS)in the process of power generation is exponentially increased in the recent days since these sources assist in minimizing the environmental contamination.A grid-tied DFIG(Doubly Fed Induction Generator)based WeCS(Wind energy Conversion System)is introduced in this work,in which a Landsman converter is implemented to impro-vise the output voltage of PV without anyﬂuctuations.A novel GA(Genetic Algorithm)assisted ANN(Artiﬁcial Neural Network)is employed for tracking the Maximum power from *** the rotor and grid side controllers,the for-mer is implemented by combining the statorﬂux with d-q reference frame and the latter is realized by the PI *** proposed approach delivers better per-formance in the compensation of real and reactive power along with the DC link voltage *** controlling mechanism is veriﬁed in both MATLAB and experimental bench setupby using an emulated wind turbine for the concurrent control of DC link potential,active and reactive *** source current THD is observed as 1.93%and 2.4%for simulation and hardware implementation respectively.

IM-eDRD from Retinal Fundus Images Using Multi-Level Classification Techniques

In recent years,there has been a significant increase in the number of people suffering from eye illnesses,which should be treated as soon as possible in order to avoid *** Fundus images are employed for this purpose,as well as for analysing eye abnormalities and diagnosing eye *** can be recognised as bright lesions in fundus pictures,which can be thefirst indicator of diabetic *** that in mind,the purpose of this work is to create an Integrated Model for exudate and Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis(IM-eDRD)with multi-level *** model uses Support Vector Machine(SVM)-based classification to separate normal and abnormal fundus images at thefirst *** input pictures for SVM are pre-processed with Green Channel extraction and the retrieved features are based on Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix(GLCM).Furthermore,the presence of exudate and Diabetic Retinopathy(DR)in fundus images is detected using the Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)classifier at the second level of *** detection,blood vessel extraction,and Optic Disc(OD)detection are all processed to achieve suitable ***,the second level processing comprises Morphological Component Analysis(MCA)based image enhancement and object segmentation processes,as well as feature extraction for training the ANFIS classifier,to reliably diagnose ***,thefindings reveal that the proposed model surpasses existing models in terms of accuracy,time efficiency,and precision rate with the lowest possible error rate.

Omeprazole induces gastric transmucosal permeability to the peptide bradykinin

AIM:To investigate omeprazole-induced transepithelial gastric leak and its effects on the permeability of the peptides bradykinin and ***:Rat gastric corpus tissue was isolated and mounted in an Ussing chamber apparatus to evaluate the permeability of 3H-bradykinin,3H-oxytocin,and 14CeDTA in the presence or absence of *** chromatography was performed to identify any metabolic breakdown products of the peptides resulting from permeation through the gastric tissue,and thereby calculate the true flux of the ***:The flux rate ofintact 3H-bradykinin increased substantially after omeprazole addition (109.5%) compared to the DMSO vehicle control (14%).No corresponding change in flux ofintact 3H-oxytocin was observed under the same conditions (11.9% and 6.4% in the DMSO-and omeprazole-treated conditions,respectively).After exposure to omeprazole,the flux rate of 14C-eDTA also increased dramatically (122.3%) compared to the DMSO condition (36.3%).CONCLUSION:The omeprazole-induced gastric leak allows for transmucosal permeability to charged molecules as well as *** induced leak will allow certain peptides to permeate.

Foreign Direct Investment in China＇s High-technology Manufacturing Industries

This paper provides a survey of foreign investment activity in China ＂s high-technology manufacturing industry. In addition, we closely examine the relationship between industrial policy, foreign investment and China ＂s high-technology export success using the development of an indigenous integrated circuits industry as a case study. This paper finds that China＇s efforts to raise the productivity and innovative capacity of indigenous enterprises is consistent with rising domestic shares of high-technology assets and profits. Nevertheless, foreign-funded enterprises remain the source of most high-technology manufactured exports, primarily from wholly foreign-owned firms. In sum, despite indigenous development, Chinese high-technology manufacturing and exports remain deeply tied to foreign investment.

An 11 year study was conducted to reevaluate the species of stipitate hydnums from the southern United States especially the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding *** genera evaluated included Bankera herein reduced to synonym with Phellodon,Hydnellum,Sarcodon,and *** of many stipitate hydnum species from this region were abundant but nitrogen depositions during the last 20 years have impacted their *** it became critical to do a definitive study of these fungi using current taxonomic *** species within Hydnellum and Phellodon have a indeterminate type growth often dependant on environmental conditions making discrimination between closely related species difficult without supportive molecular sequence *** sequence data(ITS)was obtained a phylogenetic analyzes were conducted and the sequences were compared to those in GenBank with particular attention to european data.A total of 41 distinct taxa were determined and many of those were confirmed based on morphological data.A specific new combination from Bankera fuligineoalbum to Phellodon fuligineoalbus is made ***,Phellodon brunneoolivaceus is described as new based on morphological and sequence data.

Diversity of endophytes across the soil-plant continuum for Atriplex spp. in arid environments

endophytes are hypothesized to be transferred across the soil-plant continuum, suggesting both the transfers of endophytes from environment to plant and from plant to soil. To verify this hypothesis and to assess the role of locality, we evaluated the similarity of microbial communities commonly found both in soils and endophytic communities in three arid regions, i.e. the Jornada LTeR （Long Term ecological Research） site in New Mexico, USA, and the research station of Jordan University of Science and Technology （JUST） and Khanasd research station in Badia region of Jordan. Rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils, leaves and seeds of Atriplex spp. were sampled. Diversity and distribution of bacteria and fungi across the soil-plant continuums were assessed by tag-encoded FLX amplicon pyrosequencing and sequence alignment. Of the total bacterial OTUs （operational taxonomic units）, 0.17% in Khanasri research station, 0.16% in research station of JUST, and 0.42% in Jornada LTeR site were commonly found across all the plant and soil compartments. The same was true for fungi in two regions, i.e. 1.56% in research station of JUST and 0.86% in Jornada LTeR site. However, in Khanasri research station, 12.08% of total fungi OTUs were found in at least one soil compartment and one plant compartment. Putative Arthrobacter, Sporosarcina, Cladosporium and members of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were found across all the soil-plant continuums. Ascomycota, mainly including Didymellaceae, Pleosporaceae and Davidiellaceae were present across all the soil-plant continuums. Microbial communities in two regions of Jordan were similar to each other, but both of them were different from the Jornada LTeR site of USA. SIMPeR （similarity percentage） analysis of bacterial and fungal taxa for both soil and endophyte communities revealed that dissimilarities of two bacterial genera （Arthrobacter and Sporosarcina） and two fungal genera （Cladosporium and Alternaria） are very high, so they play
