Are There Age-Related Differences in the In-Hospital Treatment of Victims from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest?

Objective: Hardly anything is known about reasons for age-related differences in surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) with worse surviving rates in elderly. Methods: 204 victims from OHCA who were admitted in our hospital between January 1st 2008 and December 31st 2013 were identified. According to their mean age (69.1 ± 14.2 years) we classified those patients (pts) who were younger than mean age minus standard deviation (SD) as young, and those victims from OHCA who were older than mean age plus SD as old. Results: Young victims from OHCA (n = 32 pts) presented more often with an initial shockable rhythm than the elderly (n = 38 pts) (50.0% vs. 21.1%;p = 0.014), received more often coronary angiography (71.9% vs. 18.4%;

Clustered organization of biosynthetic non-homologous genes is emerging as a characteristic feature of plant *** co-regulation of clustered genes seems to largely depend on epigenetic reprogram-ming and three-dimensional chromatin *** this study,we identified the long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)MARneral Silencing(MARS),localized inside the Arabidopsis marneral cluster,which con-trols the local epigenetic activation of its surrounding region in response to abscisic acid(ABA).MARS modulates the POLYCOMB REPRESSIVE COMPLEX 1(PRC1)component LIKE HETEROCHROMATIN PROTEIN 1(LHP1)binding throughout the cluster in a dose-dependent manner,determining H3K27me3 deposition and chromatin *** response to ABA,MARS decoys LHP1 away from the cluster and promotes the formation of a chromatin loop bringing together the MARNERAL SYNTHASE 1(MRN1)locus and a distal ABA-responsive *** enrichment of co-regulated lncRNAs in clustered meta-bolic genes in Arabidopsis suggests that the acquisition of novel non-coding transcriptional units may constitute an additional regulatory layer driving the evolution of biosynthetic pathways.

Plant long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)have emerged as important regulators of chromatin dynamics,impacting on transcriptional programs leading to different developmental *** lncRNA AUXIN-REGULATED PROMOTER LOOP(APOLO)directly recognizes multiple independent loci across the Arabidopsis genome and modulates their three-dimensional chromatin conformation,leading to transcriptional ***,we show that APOLO recognizes the locus encoding the root hair(RH)master regulator ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6(RHD6)and controls RHD6 transcriptional activity,leading to cold-enhanced RH elongation through the consequent activation of the transcription factor gene RHD6-like ***,we demonstrate that APOLO interacts with the transcription factor WRKY42 and modulates its binding to the RHD6 ***42 is required for the activation of RHD6 by low temperatures and WRKY42 deregulation impairs cold-induced RH ***,our results indicate that a novel ribonucleoprotein complex with APOLO and WRKY42 forms a regulatory hub to activate RHD6 by shaping its epigenetic environment and integrate signals governing RH growth and development.

This paper puts forward the premise that in a rapidly globalizing world learners of widely used Modern Foreign Languages(MFLs) such as English—a language of global communication—need to be equipped with effective intercultural communication(ICC) skills for use with these *** argument here is that ICC skills need to become a focus in language teaching curricula. Key to the incorporation of this focus is the language teachers' sense of purpose and teaching conceptualisation. Language teaching can be considered with a narrow focus:the task being that of teaching the *** the task can be considered from a wider perspective whereby language teachers include a communication skills focus as part of their *** latter perspective involves moving beyond language and linguistic focuses alone to incorporating the development of awareness of and the know-how of how to use the non-linguistic factors which are involved in successful ICC. A focus on language skills alone has in the past promoted a language classroom as,in essence,a "de-cultured" *** the incorporation of ICC into this space the classroom can become more of a bridging space between language knowledge on the one hand and the cultural world beyond the classroom space,where real world communication takes place.
