BACKGROUND The overall risk of de novo malignancies in kidney transplant recipients(KTRs)is higher than that in the general *** is associated with long-lasting exposure to immunosuppressive agents and impaired oncological vigilance due to chronic kidney *** cancer(CRC),frequently diagnosed in an advanced stage,is one of the most common malignancies in this cohort and is associated with poor ***,because of the scarcity of data concerning adjuvant chemotherapy in this group,there are no clear guidelines for the specific management of the CRCs in *** present a patient who lost her transplanted kidney shortly after initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy for colon *** SUMMARY A 36-year-old woman with a medical history of kidney transplantation(2005)because of end-stage kidney disease,secondary to chronic glomerular nephritis,and long-term immunosuppression was diagnosed with locally advanced pT_(4A)N_(1B) M_(0)(clinical stage Ⅲ)colon adenocarcinoma *** right hemicolectomy,the patient was qualified to receive adjuvant chemotherapy that consisted of oxaliplatin,leucovorin and 5-fluorouracil(FOLFOX-4).The deterioration of kidney graft function after two cycles caused chemotherapy cessation and initiation ofhemodialysis therapy after a few months. Shortly after that, the patient started palliativechemotherapy because of cancer recurrence with intraperitoneal *** of adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer increases the risk of rapid kidney graft lossdriven also by under-immunosuppression。

The long-term management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is still a matter of debate,and no clear guidelines have been *** clinical practice,gastroenterologists often have to deal with patients in prolonged remission after immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive *** planning an exit strategy for drug withdrawal,the risk of disease relapse must be balanced against the risk of drug-related adverse events and healthcare ***,there is still a dearth of data on the withdrawal of novel biologics,such as the anti-α4β7 integrin antibody(vedolizumab)and anti-IL12/23 antibody(ustekinumab),as well as the small molecule *** for estimating the risk of disease relapse and the efficacy of retreatment should be evaluated according to the patient's age and IBD *** models should guide clinicians in programming a temporary drug withdrawal after discussing realistic outcomes with the *** would shift the paradigm from an exit strategy to a holiday strategy.

The cornea has unique features that make it a useful model for regenerative medicine studies. It is an avascular, transparent, densely innervated tissue and any pathological changes can be easily detected by slit lamp examination. Corneal sensitivity is provided by the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve that elicits protective reflexes such as blinking and tearing and exerts trophic support by releasing neuromediators and growth factors. Corneal nerves are easily evaluated for both function and morphology using standard instruments such as corneal esthesiometer and in vivo confocal microscope. All local and systemic conditions that are associated with damage of the trigeminal nerve cause the development of neurotrophic keratitis, a rare degenerative disease. Neurotrophic keratitis is characterized by impairment of corneal sensitivity associated with development of persistent epithelial defects that may progress to corneal ulcer, melting and perforation. Current neurotrophic keratitis treatments aim at supporting corneal healing and preventing progression of corneal damage. Novel compounds able to stimulate corneal nerve recovery are in advanced development stage. Among them, nerve growth factor eye drops showed to be safe and effective in stimulating corneal healing and improving corneal sensitivity in patients with neurotrophic keratitis. Neurotrophic keratitis represents an useful model to evaluate in clinical practice novel neuro-regenerative drugs.

After breeding,Black-necked Grebes(Podiceps nigricollis)perform a moult-migration to autumn hypersaline staging sites,where they moult the flight feathers and forage on superabundant brine shrimp(Artemia spp.)before leaving for wintering *** the stay in moulting sites,the grebes experience changes in organs and muscle size(atrophy,hypertrophy),and almost double their body mass,which has been suggested to act as an insurance against a collapse in prey availability in late *** two years we collected blood samples from hundreds of individuals at one of the most important European moulting sites(the Odiel marshes,SW Spain),which is a highly polluted area due to mining drainage and chemical *** assessed the potential effect of moulting stage,day of the year and body condition on 16 blood biochemical *** of the changes in prey availability and body composition of grebes,we expected some physiological adjustments during *** levels of cholesterol suggested that birds in active moult increased foraging effort to face the costs of *** was increased amount of lactate dehydrogenase,corresponding to periods of breast muscle *** in active moult augmented protein ingestion,likely to account for the requirements of feather *** also show that the probability of fasting due to low prey availability increased late in the moulting season,as demonstrated by an increase in plasmaβ-hydroxy-butyrate.

Higher plants evolved multiple innate immune systems to combat pathogens present in their living ***,activation of the complex immune responses allocates nutrient resources into biosynthesis of various defense molecules,and this in turn often represses growth and development of the entire *** the years,the significance of the effective coregulation of growth and immunity has been demonstrated with dwarf phenotypes of autoimmune mutant lines of model plants displaying constitutive defense responses(van Wersch et al.,2016).This tightly regulated balance,termed the growthimmunity trade-off,is an important objective in plant breeding,which ultimately aims at plant cultivars that are both highly resistant and efficient in terms of growth and yield(Ning et al.,2017).
