<i>In Vitro</i>Mitigation of Path.genic Bacteria and Virulence Factors Using a h.droconductive Dressing

Wound infections can h.ve devastating effects on h.aling as well as th. h.alth.of th. patient. Complications increase wh.n th. path.gens are capable of producing virulence factors and/or are drug resistant. Novel meth.ds are needed to take on th. ch.llenges of treating such.wounds. Drawtex®?dressing is purported to h.ve h.droconductive properties th.t allow it to draw away debris and exudate from th. wound into th. dressing. Th. goal of th.s work is to better define th.se interactions of th.s experimental dressing with.bacteria and virulence factors. Two series of in vitro experiments were performed. First, pieces of experimental dressing were submerged in a series of cultures in flasks and samples of th. dressing and cultures were taken over 90 minutes and assayed for bacteria and virulence factor levels. Second, experimental or standard care (control) dressings were placed on selective agar plated with.path.gens of interest. Dressings and th. agar covered by th.m were used to quantify bacteria and virulence factors over time. Th. experimental dressing took up both.bacteria and virulence factors to a larger extent th.n th. control dressing. Experimental dressing significantly reduced th. load of bacteria and virulence factors in cultures compared to control culture with.ut dressing. Based on th. ability of th. dressing to take up bacteria and virulence factors in th.s study, th. data point to th. potential for th.s dressing to be similarly effective in reducing or eliminating path.gen from wounds, potentially increasing th. ch.nces of successful wound h.aling.

Th.rmal Decomposition of Olive-Solid Waste by TGA: Ch.racterization and Devolatilization Kinetics under Nitrogen and Oxygen Atmosph.res

Despite th. fact th.t a few countries in th. Mediterranean and th. Middle East h.ve limited crude oil reserves, th.y h.ve abundant biomass feedstocks. For instance, jordan relies h.avily on th. importation of natural gas and crude oil for its energy needs;but, by applying th.rmoch.mical conversion tech.iques, leftover olive oil can be used to replace th.se energy sources. Understanding th. ch.mical, ph.sical, and th.rmal ch.racteristics of raw materials is essential to obtaining th. most out of th.se conversion processes. Th.rmogravimetric analysis was used in th.s study to examine th. th.rmal beh.vior of olive-solid residue (kernel) at th.ee different h.ating rates (5, 20 and 40 C/min) in nitrogen and oxygen atmosph.res. Th. initial degradation temperature, th. residual weigh. at 500 and 700˚C and th. th.rmal degradation rate during th. devolatilization stage (below 400˚C) were all determined. It was found th.t in N2 and O2 atmosph.res, both.th. initial degradation temperature and th. degradation rate increase with.increasing h.ating rates. As h.ating rates increase in th. N2 atmosph.re, th. residual weigh. at 500 or 700˚C decreases sligh.ly, but at low h.ating rates compared to h.gh.h.ating rates in th. O2 atmosph.re, it decreases significantly. Th.s suggests th.t a longer lignin oxidation process is better th.n a sh.rter one. Coats and Redfern approach.was used to identify th. mech.nism and activation energy for th. devolatilization stage of pyrolysis and oxidation reactions. Th. process mech.nism analysis revealed th.t th. model of first-order and second-order reactions may adequately describe th. mech.nism of h.at degradation of th. devolatilization step of olive-solid waste for pyrolysis and oxidation processes, respectively.

h.art disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, h.gh.igh.ing th. need for improved diagnostic meth.ds. Traditional diagnostics face limitations such.as reliance on single-modality data and vulnerability to apparatus faults, wh.ch.can reduce accuracy, especially with.poor-quality images. Additionally, th.se meth.ds often require significant time and expertise, making th.m less accessible in resource-limited settings. Emerging tech.ologies like artificial intelligence and mach.ne learning offer promising solutions by integrating multi-modality data and enh.ncing diagnostic precision, ultimately improving patient outcomes and reducing h.alth.are costs. Th.s study introduces h.art-Net, a multi-modal deep learning framework designed to enh.nce h.art disease diagnosis by integrating data from Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Electrocardiogram (ECG). h.art-Net uses a 3D U-Net for MRI analysis and a Temporal Convolutional Graph.Neural Network (TCGN) for ECG feature extraction, combining th.se th.ough.an attention mech.nism to emph.size relevant features. Classification is performed using Optimized TCGN. Th.s approach.improves early detection, reduces diagnostic errors, and supports personalized risk assessments and continuous h.alth.monitoring. Th. proposed approach.results sh.w th.t h.art-Net significantly outperforms traditional single-modality models, ach.eving accuracies of 92.56% for h.artnet Dataset I (h.ET-DSI), 93.45% for h.artnet Dataset II (h.ET-DSII), and 91.89% for h.artnet Dataset III (h.ET-DSIII), mitigating th. impact of apparatus faults and image quality issues. Optimizing Average Electric Power During th. Ch.rging of Lith.um-Ion Batteries Th.ough.th. Taguch. Meth.d

In recent times, lith.um-ion batteries h.ve been widely used owing to th.ir h.gh.energy density, extended cycle lifespan, and minimal self-disch.rge rate. Th. design of h.gh.speed rech.rgeable lith.um-ion batteries faces a significant ch.llenge owing to th. need to increase average electric power during ch.rging. Th.s ch.llenge results from th. direct influence of th. power level on th. rate of ch.mical reactions occurring in th. battery electrodes. In th.s study, th. Taguch. optimization meth.d was used to enh.nce th. average electric power during th. ch.rging process of lith.um-ion batteries. Th. Taguch. tech.ique is a statistical strategy th.t facilitates th. systematic and efficient evaluation of numerous experimental variables. Th. proposed meth.d involved varying seven input factors, including positive electrode th.ckness, positive electrode material, positive electrode active material volume fraction, negative electrode active material volume fraction, separator th.ckness, positive current collector th.ckness, and negative current collector th.ckness. Th.ee levels were assigned to each.control factor to identify th. optimal conditions and maximize th. average electric power during ch.rging. Moreover, a variance assessment analysis was conducted to validate th. results obtained from th. Taguch. analysis. Th. results revealed th.t th. Taguch. meth.d was an eff ective approach.for optimizing th. average electric power during th. ch.rging of lith.um-ion batteries. Th.s indicates th.t th. positive electrode material, followed by th. separator th.ckness and th. negative electrode active material volume fraction, was key factors significantly infl uencing th. average electric power during th. ch.rging of lith.um-ion batteries response. Five perovskite ceramics samples of Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) with.x=0.00,0.05,0.10,0.15,and 0.20 were synth.sized using th. conventional solid-state reaction *** prepared samples were ch.racterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR),and UV-Vis *** sh.elding properties against ionizing radiation were also *** XRD analysis sh.ws th. perovskite cubic structure as th. major ph.se in all *** FTIR reveals a distinctive band around 614-620 cm^(-1) ascribed to th. antisymmetric O-Sn-O ***-Vis spectroscopy was used to determine th. bandgap according to diffuse reflectance,and th. results display a fixed enh.ncement in th. bandgap from 3.2 to 3.3 eV for all ***-ray sh.elding properties of th. synth.sized samples were experimentally measured and compared with.XCOM computational *** relative differences(Δ,%)between experimental and th.o retical values are low and fall with.n th. 0.446%-7.10%*** addition of Er leads to th. enh.nced density,neutron,and gamma sh.elding *** contrast,ch.rged particles’sh.elding parameters gradually reduce with.rising Er *** results suggest th.t Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) samples can be used in different radiation sh.elding applications.

Syngas cleaning with.nano-structured micro-porous ion exch.nge polymers in biomass gasification using a novel downdraft gasifier

Sulph.nated nano-structured micro-porous ion exch.nge polymers, known as sulph.nated Polyh.PE Polymers （s-Ph.s） were used in syngas cleaning to investigate th.ir impact on tar composition, concentration and dew point depression during th. gasification of fuel cane bagasse as a model biomass. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. s-Ph.s used as a secondary syngas treatment system, was h.gh.y effective at adsorbing and reducing th. concentration of all class of tars in syngas by 95%-80% wh.ch.resulted in tar dew point depression from 90 ~C to 73 ~C. It was sh.wn th.t tars underwent ch.mical reactions with.n s-Ph.s, indicating th.t tar diffusion from syngas was driven by ch.mical potential. It was also observed th.t s-Ph.s also captured ash.forming elements from syngas. Th. use of s-Ph.s in gasification as well as in an integrated th.rmoch.mical biorefinery tech.ology is discussed since th. tar loaded s-Ph.s can be used as natural h.rbicides in th. form of soil additives to enh.nce th. biomass growth.and crop yield.

Effect of salinity and acidity on bioleach.ng activity of mesoph.lic and extremely th.rmoph.lic bacteria

Th. effects of bacterial strain, salinity and ph.on th. bioleach.ng of a complex ore using mesoph.lic and extremely th.rmoph.lic bacteria were investigated and th. statistical analysis of th. results was performed using ERGUN’s test. Th. extreme th.rmoph.les were sh.wn to display superior kinetics of dissolution of zinc compared with.th. mesoph.les as confirmed by th. statistical analysis. Bioleach.ng performance of th. extreme th.rmoph.les is found to improve in response to th. increase in acidity (ph.from 2.0 to 1.0) wh.lst th. activity of th. mesoph.les is adversely affected by decreasing ph. Statistical analysis of th. bioleach.ng data indicates th.t th. effect of ph.is insignificant in th. range of ph.1.0-1.2 for th. extreme th.rmoph.les and ph.1.4-2.0 for th. mesoph.les. Salinity is sh.wn to h.ve a suppressing effect on th. mesoph.les. h.wever, th. extreme th.rmoph.les appear to be h.loph.lic in ch.racter as th.y could operate efficiently under saline conditions (1%-4%Cl- (w/v)).

Myelin repair and functional recovery mediated by neural cell transplantation in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis

Cellular th.rapies are becoming a major focus for th. treatment of demyelinating diseases such.as multiple sclerosis （MS）, th.refore it is important to identify th. most effective cell types th.t promote myelin repair. Several components contribute to th. relative benefits of specific cell types including th. overall efficacy of th. cell th.rapy, th. reproducibility of treatment, th. mech.nisms of action of distinct cell types and th. ease of isolation and generation of th.rapeutic populations. A range of distinct cell populations promote functional recovery in animal models of MS including neural stem cells and mesench.mal stem cells derived from different tissues. Each.of th.se cell populations h.s advantages and disadvantages and likely works th.ough.distinct mech.nisms. Th. relevance of such.mech.nisms to myelin repair in th. adult central nervous system is unclear since th. th.rapeutic cells are generally derived from developing animals. h.re we describe th. isolation and ch.racterization of a population of neural cells from th. adult spinal cord th.t are ch.racterized by th. expression of th. cell surface glycoprotein NG2. In functional studies, injection of adult NG2~ cells into mice with.ongoing MOG3~_~5-induced experimental autoimmune enceph.lomyelitis （EAE） enh.nced remyelination in th. CNS wh.le th. number of CD3＋ T cells in areas of spinal cord demyelination was reduced approximately th.ee-fold. In vivostudies indicated th.t in EAE, NG2＊ cells stimulated endogenous repair wh.le in vitro th.y responded to signals in areas of induced inflammation by differentiating into oligodendrocytes. Th.se results suggested th.t adult NG2~ cells represent a useful cell population for promoting neural repair in a variety of different conditions including demyelinating diseases such.as MS.

Combinations of metal and lanth.nide oxides h.ve been done th.ough.casted films for potential medical applications. In th.s regard, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide/ch.omium(Ⅲ) oxide/graph.ne oxide(GO)/polycaprolactone(PCL) based films nano-composites(NCs) were fabricated, pointing th.ir utilization as a biological scaffold for wound dressing purposes. Also, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide and ch.omium(Ⅲ) oxide h.ve been merged as promising optical constituents due to th.ir unique optical beh.vior. Th. structural and compositional examination of th. studied NCs was executed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Raman, and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM). Th. Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL NC exh.bits a surface with.a lower rough.ess degree owing to th. presence of GO. Cr_(2)O_(3)sh.ws size reduction upon GO insertion to reach.1.2 μm as th. average grain size, wh.lst Sm_(2)O_(3)records an average grain size of less th.n 1 μm. As well, th. polymeric nano-compositions exh.bit variation in contact angle values th.t h.t 29.76°± 3.52°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/PCL, and 48.62°± 1.37°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL as th. second lowest contact angle. Th. optical beh.vior contributes to absorption edge relocation along th. x-axis from 1.7 eV for pure PCL, to 2.65 eV for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL. Regarding biological responses, th. cell exposed to 2.5 μg/m L of Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL sh.ws cell viability of 119.31%, wh.le 5 μg/m L h.ts 99.6%. Additionally, th. resulting cell attach.ent micrograph. sh.w layers of fibroblast tissue, besides th. proliferation and growth.of cultivated cells. Th.s, th. Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL scaffold provides 3D proliferation of fibroblast cells endorsing th. wound h.aling process.
