Differences in heavy metal tolerance among separate populations of the same species have often been interpreted as local adaptation. Persistence of differences after removing the stressor indicates that mechanisms responsible for the increased tolerance were genetically determined. Drosophila subobscura Collin （Diptera： Drosophilidae） pop- ulations were sampled from two localities with different history of heavy metal pollution, and reared for eight generations in the laboratory on a standard medium and on media with different concentrations of lead （Pb）. To determine whether flies from different natural populations exposed to the Pb-contaminated media in the laboratory show population spe- cific variability in fitness components over generations, experimental groups with different concentrations of lead were assayed in three generations （F2, Fs, and Fs） for fecundity, de- velopmental time, and egg-to-adult viability. On the contaminated medium, fecundity was reduced in later generations and viability was increased, irrespective of the environmental origin of populations. For both populations, developmental time showed a tendency of slowing down on media with lead. Faster development was observed in later generations. Preadaptation to contamination, meaning higher fecundity, higher viability, and faster egg to adult development in all studied generations, was found in D. subobscura originating from the locality with a higher level of heavy metal pollution,

Regulatory T cells （Tregs） are critical for the peripheral maintenance of the autoreactive T cells in autoimmune disorders such as type 1 diabetes （TID）. Pharmacological inhibition of Janus tyrosine kinase 3 （JAK3） has been proposed as a basis for new treatment modalities against autoimmunity and allogeneic responses. Targeting JAK3 with an inhibitor has previously been shown to exhibit protective action against the development of T 1D in non-obese diabetic （NOD） mice. As the mechanism of such preventative action has been unknown, we hypothesized that JAK3 inhibition induces generation of Tregs. Here, we show that the JAK3 inhibitor 4-（4＇-hydroxyphenyl）-amino-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline （WHI-P131） suppresses proliferation of short-term cultured NOD CD4＋ T cells through induction of apoptosis, while promoting survival of a particular population of long-term cultured cells. It was found that the surviving cells were not of the CD4＋CD25＋FoxP3＋ phenotype. They secreted decreased amounts of IL-IO, IL-4 and interferon （IFN）-y compared to the cells not exposed to the optimal concentrations of JAK3 inhibitor. However, an elevated transforming growth factor （TGF）-β secretion was detected in their supernatants. In vivo treatment of prediabetic NOD mice with WHI-P131 did not affect the frequency and number of splenic and pancreatic lymph node CD4＋FoxP3＋ Tregs, while generating an elevated numbers of CD4＋FoxP3- TGF-β-secreting T cells. In conclusion, our data suggest an induction of TGF-β-secreting CD4＋ T cells as the underlying mechanism for antidiabetogenic effects obtained by the treatment with a JAK3 inhibitor. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the JAK3 inhibitor activity in the context of the murine Tregs.

The present work is devoted to the study of bosons evolving in the frozen magnetar＇s crust endowed with an ultra-strong magnetic field orthogonal to an electric field, both described by periodic functions. We discuss the quantum tunneling process through the one-dimensional potential barrier along Oz. The solutions to the Klein- Gordon equation are expressed in terms of Mathieu＇s functions which, for computable particle＇s energy range, are turning from oscillatory to exponentially growing modes along Oz. Within the Jeffreys Wentzel Kramers- Brillouin framework, the transmission coefficient is computed for the particle momentum in the middle of the instability range.

比利时著名的语言学家杰夫·维索尔伦提出了顺应论,该理论一经提出就得到极大的关注,人们开始运用该理论解释各种语言现象,顺应论也被用于翻译领域。根据顺应论,语言的使用是一种语言的选择,无论这种选择是有意识的还是无意识的,最终是“持续的选择过程”,《彼得兔的故事》是英国著名儿童文学家毕翠克丝·波特的作品,该作品首次出版于20世纪初,它讲述了兔妈妈和她的四个孩子的故事,《彼得兔的故事》已经被翻译成30多种不同的语言。本文采用定量分析和定性分析的方法,从顺应论的视角详细地分析了归化和异化在《彼得兔的故事》翻译中的应用。译者在翻译童话时,经常顺应儿童的语言习惯、语言结构、认知水平、心理状况、文化背景等,从而使儿童理解童话的意义。在语言结构方面,本文用实例分析了译者如何在单词、句子和文本三个层面改变源语言的语言结构以顺应目标语言;在交际语境方面,本文从社会世界、心理世界和物理世界对语料进行了分析,并说明了译者如何根据儿童的认知水平、心理状况、社会起源等方面应用翻译策略。通过研究发现,为了使儿童理解童话故事,译者通常会对源语言的语言结构进行改变,以适应目标语的语言习惯,这说明顺应论能够很好地解释和指导翻译过程和翻译策略的使用,这些发现为进一步研究外国文学作品的翻译提供了参考。
