The fauna of the Pleistocene Homo-bearing sites of Java has been well known for more than a century.A recent revision of the crocodylian remains confirmed both the validity of Gavialis bengawanicus and the synonymiza-tion of Crocodylus ossifragus with *** we report on a still unpublished crocodylian specimen collected by Eugene Dubois in the latest Early Pleistocene of Kali Gedeh that can be tentatively referred to the genus *** size of the specimen,the approximately 1 m long lower jaw in particular,indicat-ed that this crocodile attained a total length of approximately 6 or 7 *** with specimens from the Plio-Pleistocene of Africa,this material provides evidence for gigantism in *** is not clear whether or not the‘temperature-size rule’applies to fossil crocodylians,but due to the growing interest in predicting future temperature-related size changes of the extant organisms,it would be interesting to study in detail the past reac-tion to temperature changes of crocodylians and other terrestrial ectothermic animals.

The aims of this study were （a） to determine the prevalence of subjects with semen hyperviscosity （SHV） in a large population of male partners of subfertile couples; （b） to identify any correlation between SHV and infections or inflammation of the genital tract; （c） to assess the effects of therapeutic approaches for treating SHV; and （d） to assess sperm kinetic parameters after successful treatment of SHV. A retrospective study of 1 833 male partners of subfertile couples was conducted. Next, clinical, seminal, bacteriological and ultrasound studies involving 52 subjects suffering from SHV were performed, and the SHV was classified as being mild （length of thread 〉 2 cm and ≤4 cm）, moderate （〉 4 cm and ≤ 6 cm） or severe （〉 6 cm）. The prevalence of SHV was observed in 26.2% （480） of the subjects, with 13.2% suffering from mild, 6.6% from moderate and 6.4% from severe SHV. Treatment was completely successful in only 27 subjects （52.0%）, primarily in those who had mild basal SHV with a positive semen culture. In these subjects, progressive motility percentage, straight line velocity and linearity were significantly higher than pre-treatment levels. SHV is often found in subjects with subfertility. Pathogenesis was strictly related to infective/inflammatory factors in only 48.0% of cases; therefore, it is possible that biochemical, enzymatic or genetic factors have a role in this condition.

Growing concern to increase life expectancy has promoted several studies in the field of nutrition, especially those on food and their effects on the human body. Assays have been performed to improve their nutritional quality. In fact, there is considerable interest in encouraging development of new ingredients, with the innovation in food products and the establishment of new market niches for these ingredients. The global market for functional foods is growing and always envisages new products with functional technological and physiological characteristics. The petitsuisse cheese is a product of high nutritional value, rich in calcium, phosphorus and fat-soluble vitamins, with a high percentage of milk proteins, coupled to excellent digestion and assimilation by the human body. Current assay describes the production of a petit-suisse cheese to which was added the probiotic Lactobacillus casei BGP 93, and determines the physical, chemical and microbiological viability of lactobacilli in cheese during storage period. Levels of protein, fat in the dry extract, moisture and pH were analyzed for physical and chemical parameters;likewise, detection of coliforms, Staphylococcus, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, and yeasts and molds was performed for microbiological parameters;monitoring of the viability of Lactobacillus casei BGP 93 during its life time was conducted. The petit-suisse cheese proved to be a good vehicle for the addition of probiotic microorganism. Lactobacillus casei remained viable during shelf life even with decreasing pH, and may be considered a functional product during 30 days of storage.

The Toluca Valley Aquifer (TVA) is considered one of the most overexploited aquifers in Mexico because of the high rate of groundwater extraction for supplying urban and industrial water to Mexico City and Toluca City, which causes land subsidence in urban and suburban areas. In this paper, we propose a multi-temporal analysis that uses persistent scatterer interferometry (PSI) method to evaluate the subsidence processes in Toluca Valley. The PSI results revealed differential movements of the ground of as much as 83 mm/year. A spatial variation of PSI results was identified with respect to previous studies using the conventional Din SAR methodology. The spatial distribution and density suggested the possibility of an expanding trend of subsidence process at north, northeast and east of the TVA, which corresponds to the region with the highest density of pumping wells for industrial and agricultural use.

Objective:To investigate the anti-proliferative effects of 20-hydroxyecdysone isolated from the bark of Dacrycarpus imbricatus(Blume) de ***:Column chromatography was used for isolation of compounds from plant *** structure of the isolated compound was identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques,including HSQC,HMBC,NOE-difference *** isolated compound was tested for its anti-proliferative activity in acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and OCI-AML ***:Compound 1 was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Dacrycarpus imbricatus barks by column *** chemical structure was identified as 20-hydroxyecdysone(20HE),a cholestane-type ecdysteroid,by a combination of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric *** goal was to test the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE using the OCI-AML cell line.20 HE significantly decreased OCI cell number at a concentration of 1 mg/mL,whereas lower concentrations were ***,this decrease was due to partial blockage of the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle,with a reduction of cells in the G_2M phase,not due to increased ***:This indicates that 20 HE significantly decreases the number of cells in the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle in human AML *** is the first time that the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE against a human tumor cell line has been reported.

Local Stability Analysis of a Curzon-Ahlborn Engine without Ideal Gas Working at the Maximum Ecological Regime

In this work, the stability of an endoreversible Curzon-Ahlbom engine is analyzed, using Van der Waals gas as a working substance and the corresponding efficiency for this engine working at temperatures withinthe maximum ecological regime. By mean s of a local stability analysis we find that a critical point of an almost linear system is stable andanalytically expressed in eigenvalues. After an arbitrarily small perturbation, the system state exponentially decays to a critical point, with either of two characteristic relaxation times, which are a function of the thermal conductance （a）, heat capacity （C） and T=T2/T1. The behavior of relaxation times and solution of the systems are qualitatively shown by sketching its phase portrait, which results susceptible to operating regimes, i.e., the eigenvectors in the maximum ecological regime have a clockwise rotation with respect to the eigenvectors in the regime of maximumpower. Finally, it has to observe that afterto λvw = 1, approximation,ηVWE=4^-3ηC is obtained, where ηVWE is the Van der Waals efficiency atrnaximum ecological regime and r/c is Carnot＇s efficiency. Finally, it discussed the local stability and steady state of the energetic properties of the endoreversible engine.

Objective:To investigate the antitumor effect of maesopsin 4-O-β-glucoside(TAT2) isolated from the leaves of Artocarpus tonkinensis(***) *** ***:The antitumor activity of TAT2 was evaluated in Lewis lung carcinoma(LLC) tumor-bearing ***/c mice had tumors induced by implantation with 2× 10~6 LLC cells into the subcutaneous right posterior ***-bearing mice were treated orally with a range of doses of TAT2 and a standard drug,*** were observed for tumor growth and mortality *** was collected to determine hematological and biochemical *** TAT2 was isolated from an ethanolic extract of *** *** structure was determined by MS and NMR spectroscopy,and identified as *** compound did not show acute toxicity at the highest dose tested(2 OIK) mg/kg body weight).TAT2 exhibited antitumor activity by decreasing tumor growth,increasing the survival rale,and ameliorating some hematological and biochemical parameters at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight(P<0.05).Conclusions:These results indicate that TAT2 possesses clear antitumor *** to its bioavailability and low toxicity,and the fact that it could be isolated in a large scale from *** leaves,the compound shows promise as a potential anticancer drug.

An analysis of the Stirling and Ericsson cycles from the point of view of the finite time thermodynamics is made by assuming the existence of internal irreversibilities in an engine modeled by these cycles, and the ideal gas as working substance is considered. Expressions of efficiency in both regimes maximum power output and maximum ecological function are also shown. Appropriate variables are introduced so that the objective functions, namely power output, ecological function and efficiency can be functions of the reservoirs temperatures ratio and certain “measurable” parameters as a thermal conductance, the general constant of gases and the compression ratio of the cycle. Several results from the finite time thermodynamics literature are used, so that the developed methodology leads directly to appropriate expressions of the objective functions in order to simplify the optimization process.
