We calculate the diffusion coefficients for ions moving in a prescribed electromagnetic *** field is considered to he a superposition of an electrostatic stochastic field and a space-dependent and sheared magnetic *** have considered as parameters involved in the calculation of the diffusion coefficients the shear ion Kubo number the electrostatic Kubo number *** parallel shear ion Kubo number and the parallel thermal ion Kubo number A geometrical parameter which is the measure of the product of the stochastic perpendicular correlation length and the gradient in the magnetic field strength(see definitions in the text)is found not to he important in our *** results concerning the diffusion coefficients obtained in our model are in agreement with experimental data and with those corresponding to other models,and the neoclassical and anomalous values for the diffusion coefficients arc obtained.

Plant regrowth capacity and soil protection were investigated using three flooding-tolerant Yangtze River riverside species （Arundinella anomala, Hemartria compressa and cynodon dactylon）. The root and leaf surface growth, the plant regrowth capacity and the mitigation of soil runoff were analyzed using potted plants that were covered with 5, 10 and 18 cm new sediments, respectively. A. anomala reacted most slowly to the recovery from new sediments, while H. compressa had the highest recovery rates. The latter could produce 24 times the initial root length and 41 times its original leaf surface during the growth period of 12 weeks. c. dactyion showed no significant change in growth in relation to the rising sediment thickness, which means that even 18 cm of new sediments were tolerated by c. dactylon. Erosion tests showed that all three plant species can reduce the soil runoff by more than 63%. compared to other species, A. anomala was less capable of stabilizing new sediments. The soil protecting abilities of H. compressa decreased after more than 10 cm of new sediments. c. dactyion showed the best soil retention compared to the other species examined, since it could reduce the soil runoff up to 87%. consequently, c. dactylon was found to be significantly better for soil-protection plant species than A. anomala and H. compressa given the conditions at the Three gorges Reservoir.

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the impact of carnosic acid(cA),selenised yeast(^(Y)Se)and selenate(^(VI)Se)supplemented to diets,including fish oil(FO)and rapeseed oil(RO),on the content of fatty acids,total cholesterol(Tch),tocopherols and malondialdehyde in the fat located between the thigh muscles and the heart in ***-four male corriedale lambs were divided into 4 groups of 6 *** were fed a diet with FO and RO(the control diet)or experimental diets containing RO,FO and cA with/without Se(as^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se).The experimental diets without/with^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se changed concentrations of fatty acids in the fat and heart compared to the *** experimental diets increased the levels of c11c14c20:2,c5c8c11c14c20:4,c5c8c11c14c17c20:5 and the sums of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids(LPUFA)and conjugated linoleic acid isomers in the fat compared to the *** experimental diet containing^(Y)Se or^(VI)Se increased the content of Se,Tch,c11c14c20:2,c8c11c14c20:3,c5c8c11c14c20:4,c5c8c11c14c17c20:5,c7c10c13c16c19c22:5,c4c7c10c13c16c19c22:6 and the concentration sum of n-3LPUFA,n-6LPUFA and tocopherols in the heart in comparison with the control diet and the diet containing only *** diets reduced the concentration of malon-dialdehyde in the fat and heart in comparison with the control *** dietary intervention has great potential for future practical and commercial implementations.

In this paper, we investigate a low dimensional model of percussive drilling with vibro-impact to mimic the nonlinear dynamics of the bounded progression. Non- holonomity which arises in the stick-slip caused by the impact during drilling fails to be correctly identified via the classical techniques. A reduced model without non-holono- mity is derived by the introduction of a new state variable, of which averaging technique is employed successfully to detect the periodic motions. Local bifurcations are presented directly by using c-L method. Numerical simulations and the penetrating rate analysis along different choices of parame- ters have been carried out to probe the nonlinear behaviour and the optimal penetrating rate of the drilling system.

This review summarizes the current state of knowledge regarding the role of endothelial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of early and delayed intestinal radiation toxicity and discusses various endothelial-oriented interventions aimed at reducing the risk of radiation enteropathy. Studies published in the biomedical literature during the past four decades and cited in PubMed, as well as clinical and laboratory data from our own research program are reviewed. The risk of injury to normal tissues limits the cancer cure rates that can be achieved with radiation therapy. During treatment of abdominal and pelvic tumors, the intestine is frequently a major close-limiting factor. Microvascular injury is a prominent feature of both early （inflammatory）, as well as delayed （fibroproliferative） radiation injuries in the intestine and in many other normal tissues. Evidence from our and other laboratories suggests that endothelial dysfunction, notably a deficiency of endothelial thrombomodulin, plays a key role in the pathogenesis of these radiation responses. Deficient levels of thrombomodulin cause loss of vascular thromboresistance, excessive activation of cellular thrombin receptors by thrombin, and insufficient activation of protein c, a plasma protein with anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties. These changes are presumed to be critically involved in many aspects of early intestinal radiation toxicity and may sustain the fibroproliferative processes that lead to delayed intestinal dysfunction, fibrosis, and clinical complications. In conclusion, injury of vascular endothelium is important in the pathogenesis of the intestinal radiation response. Endothelial-oriented interventions are appealing strategies to prevent or treat normal tissue toxicity associated with radiation treatment of cancer.

Delivery of a peptide(APP96-110),derived from amyloid precursor protein(APP),has been shown to elicit neuroprotective effects following cerebral stroke and traumatic brain *** this study,the effect of APP96-110 or a mutant version of this peptide(mAPP96-110)was assessed following moderate(200 kdyn,(2 N))thoracic contusive spinal cord injury(ScI)in adult Nude *** received a single tail vein injection of APP96-110 or mAPP96-110 at 30 minutes post-ScI and were then assessed for functional improvements over the next 8 weeks.A cohort of animals also received transplants of either viable or non-viable human mesenchymal stromal cells(hMScs)into the Sc lesion site at one week post-injury to assess the effect of combining intravenous APP96-110 delivery with hMSc *** were perfused 8 weeks post-ScI and longitudinal sections of spinal cord analyzed for a number of factors including hMSc viability,cyst size,axonal regrowth,glial reactivity and macrophage *** of sensorimotor function revealed occasional significant differences between groups using Ladderwalk or Ratwalk tests,however there were no consistent improvements in functional outcome after any of the ***96-110 alone,and APP96-110 in combination with both viable and non-viable hMScs significantly reduced cyst size compared to ScI *** treatments with donor hMScs also significantly increased βIII tubulin^(+),glial fibrillary acidic protein(gFAP^(+))and laminin+expression,and decreased ED1^(+)expression in *** preliminary study demonstrates that intravenous delivery of APP96-110 peptide has selective,modest neuroprotective effects following ScI,which may be enhanced when combined with hMSc ***,the effects are less pronounced and less consistent compared to the protective morphological and cognitive impact that this same peptide has on neuronal survival and behaviour after stroke and traumatic brain *** while the efficacy of a

AIM： TO estimate the serum α1-antichymotrypsin （AcT）, α1-acid glycoprotein （AgP） and transferrin （Tf） concentrations and to evaluate the microheterogeneity of these acute phase proteins in patients with ulcerative colitis. METHODS： Twenty-seven patients with ulcerative colitis （Uc） and 17 healthy control subjects were studied. The patients were categorised as severe （n = 9）, moderate （n = 10） and mild groups （n = 8） using Truelove and Witts＇ classification of ulcerative colitis. Microheterogeneity of AcT, AgP and Tf was analysed by crossed immunoaffinity electrophoresis （cIAE） with concanavalin A. In all serum samples standard electrophoresis of serum proteins was performed, iron （Fe） concentration, total iron binding capacity （TIBc） and c-reactive protein （cRP） were also measured. RESULTS： Our patients suffering from ulcerative colitis had significantly higher serum AcT and AgP concentrations and lower serum transferrin concentration in comparison to healthy subjects. changes in concentrations of acute phase proteins were dependent on the activity of the inflammatory process. The glycosylation patterns of transferrin were related to the inflammation status. We also observed the correlation between AcT and AgP concentrations, patterns of transferrin glycosylation and changes in standard protein electrophoresis or blood cell count. cONcLUSION： The glycosylation patterns of transferrin obtained from patients suffering from ulcerative colitis are highly branched and sialylated compared with those obtained from healthy subjects. In contrast, the glycosylation patterns of transferrin do not differ according to the activity index of ulcerative colitis. The microheterogeneity patterns of AgP and AcT are similar in ulcerative colitis patients and healthy subjects.
