Size-controlled synthesis of Fe3O4 and Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles and their superparamagnetic properties tailoring

Superparamagnetic properties and fine-tuning of colloidal Fe3O4nanoparticles are important for their widespread biomedical applications. Herein, colloidal Fe3O4nanoparticles(NPs) of different sizes(8–20 nm) were prepared,and their hydrophilization with SiO2shell coating to be Fe3O4@SiO2core-shell had been realized *** size of Fe3O4NPs was controlled by different heating rates. Transmission electron microscope(TEM), powder X-ray diffractometry(XRD), and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) were performed to examine the morphology, crystallinity, and magnetic properties of the prepared Fe3O4and Fe3O4@SiO2core-shell NPs,respectively. In addition, high resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM) results suggested that Fe3O4NPs had well crystallization. Enabled by such, their superparamagnetic properties can be fine-tuned accordingly and cater to their potential applications.

Solid pseudopapillary tumor is a rare primary neoplasm of the pancreas that typically affects young *** is a relatively a benign tumor,with a favorable *** here report a 27-year-old woman with solid pseudopapillary neoplasm,who presented with mild jaundice,mildly elevated liver function tests and right upper quadrant *** was suggestive of hemorrhagic hepatic adenoma;however,on magnetic resonance imaging,a heterogenous mass was found in the head of *** ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration(FNA)revealed tumor cells with papillary architecture and immunohistochemical analysis showing cells positive for markers including beta-catenin,vimentin,alpha 1 antitrypsin *** findings were consistent with solid pseudopapillary *** patient underwent ***-surgical biopsy confirmed the FNA findings with tumor localized to the *** patient was not given any adjuvant *** remained asymptomatic and showed no signs of disease after four months *** is important to differentiate this tumor from other pancreatic neoplasms,because this type is amenable to cure after complete surgical resection,even in cases with capsular invasion,unlike malignant tumors of the pancreas.

Use of Scrapped Rubber Tires for Sustainable Construction of Manhole Covers

Scrapped tires from vehicles are produced in large quantities. Despite numerous existing uses of scrapped tires, alarge quantity ends up at the landfill sites, which contributes to environmental degradation. The development ofmore applications of scrapped tire usage can reduce the disposal of tires at landfill sites. This research proposes anovel use of scrapped tires by using the strips taken from scrapped tires in replacement of steel bars as reinforcement. Manhole covers were produced using scrapped tires by completely replacing the steel with scrapped *** different samples of manhole covers were prepared and tested. The highest bearing capacity of 25.5 kN wasrecorded with a sample of 100 mm thickness made with cementitious composite, which is 2.25 times higher thanthe bearing capacity of a conventional reinforced-concrete manhole cover. The use of manhole covers made withscrapped tires can effectively address the theft issue of manhole covers. The lifecycle cost analysis shows that themanhole cover made with scrapped tires is 3.4 times more cost-effective in comparison with the conventionalmanhole cover. This research shows a new avenue of the potential use of scrapped tires as reinforcement in structures, which can improve sustainable construction practices.

Device to Device (D2D) communication is expected to be anessential part of 5G cellular networks. D2D communication enables closeproximitydevices to establish a direct communication session. D2D communicationoffers many advantages, such as reduced latency, high data rates,range extension, and cellular offloading. The first step to establishing a D2Dsession is device discovery;an efficient device discovery will lead to efficientD2D communication. D2D device further needs to manage its mode of communication,perform resource allocation, manage its interference and mostimportantly control its power to improve the battery life of the device. Thiswork has developed six distinct scenarios in which D2D communication canbe initiated, considering their merits, demerits, limitations, and optimizationparameters. D2D communication procedures for the considered scenarioshave been formulated, based upon the signal flow, containing device discovery,resource allocation, and session teardown. Finally, latency for each scenariohas been evaluated, based on propagation and processing delays.

Background:Although intrinsic risk factors contributing to esophageal food impaction are well established,whether social behavior affects its occurrence has not yet been ***:We conducted a retrospective review of the gastroenterology endoscopy procedural documentation software for the period of 2001–2012 to identify all patients who presented to our emergency department for esophageal foreign-body removal at the time of national athletic events and holidays associated with dietary ***:We found that adults undergoing emergent esophagogastroduodenoscopy during periods celebrating cultural holidays and national athletic events were more likely to experience esophageal food impaction compared with those undergoing emergent endoscopy during periods not associated with these events(36.8% vs 3.6%;P<0.001):a 10-fold *** a national holiday/athletic event period,the most common impacted food item was turkey(50%)followed by chicken(29%)and beef(21%).Conclusions:Esophageal food impaction is more likely to occur on American holidays and national athletic events and is associated with large *** with intrinsic risk factors should be advised to modify their diet during cultural events associated with tachyphagia and large meals to prevent esophageal food impaction.

Nature of Conflicts, Tensions and Exploitation in Sharecropping in Rural Sindh

This paper explains the causes of conflicts and tensions in sharecropping relationships, the nature and level of exploitation. It explains the immediate as well as root causes of conflicts that emerge between sharecroppers and landlords. Life-world of peasants of Sindh has been explored at village, sub-regional and regional level. It was found that the historical systemic structures of exploitation still exist in its refined form in peasant life-world. Peasant life within village and among village peasants is relatively peaceful. Conflicts emerge or take serious turn when outside systemic agents get involved in issues related to sharecropper and landlord. Historically property rights given to big landlords and feudal lords by imperialistic forces while snatching the indigenous right of peasants to self-cultivation, is the root cause that has spawned several sub-systemic pathologies in the life-world of peasants. Absentee landlordism, Kamdaari system, debt bondage, social bondage, system of Kann, landlessness, adulterated hybrid seeds, and issues of Sanad are some of the sub-systemic evils that have emerged over the years. All such sub-systemic structures put bigger and influential landlords into strategic advantage over the sharecroppers, particularly landless peasants;the imbalance that perpetuates “permanent liminality” suppresses reciprocal dialogues and discourages mutual negotiations. Outside systemic factors like SHO-Landlord nexus or Feudal-Police-Tapedar troika play central role in conflict creation and exacerbation in landlord-sharecropper relationship leading to bloody conflicts, caste wars, tribal feuds and honor-killings, thus, further differentiating and alienating life-world and the system rural Sindh.
