AIM:To evaluate the effects of soy supplementation on insulin resistance,fatty liver and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) levels in non-diabetic patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC).METHODS:In a prospective,randomized and singleblinded clinical trial,we compared patients with CHC who had casein as a supplement(n = 80)(control group),with patients who consumed a soy supplement diet(n = 80) [intervention group(IG)].Both groups received 32 g/d of protein for 12 ***:Patients' baseline features showed that 48.1% were overweight,43.7% had abdominal fat accumulation,34.7% had hepatic steatosis and 36.3% had an homeostasis model assessment index of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) ≥ *** analysis showed that protein supplementation diet reduced hepatic steatosis in both groups;however,significant reductions in ALT levels occurred in the soy *** regression modeling indicated that in the presence of severe fibrosis(F3/F4),g glutamyl transferase elevation and high density lipoprotein(HDL) reduction,the intervention group had 75% less chance of developing hepatic steatosis(OR= 0.25;95% CI:0.06-0.82) and 55% less chance of presenting with an ALT level ≥ 1.5 × the upper limit of normal(ULN)(OR = 0.45,95% CI:0.22-0.89).Soy treatment did not have any effect on insulin resistance(OR = 1.92;95% CI:0.80-4.83),which might be attributed to the fact that the HOMAIR values at baseline in most of our patients were in the normal *** hepatic fibrosis,an ALT level > 1.5 × ULN and visceral fat were predictors of an HOMA-IR ≥ *** IG group had a reduced risk of an ALT level > 1.5 × *** HOMA-IR ≥ 3.0 and HDL decreased ALT levels and thus may improve liver inflammation in hepatitis C virus(HCV) patients;it also reduced hepatic steatosis in a subgroup of patients but did not change insulin *** should be considered in the nutritional care of HCV patients.

Fatigue Strength Evaluation of Resin-Injected Bolted Connections Using Statistical Analysis

Different strategies can be used to perform reparations and reinforcements of ancient bolted and riveted metallic bridges. As the riveting process is not currently a common practice, it requires proper equipment and skilled workers. Another solution is the use of welding. However, the weldability of old steels is poor. Bolts are very attractive alternative solutions, and are most commonly used to repair old metallic bridges. Fitted bolts are expensive solutions; the alternative is the use of resin-injected bolts. The behavior of bolted joints with preloaded resin-injected bolts has been studied using quasi-static and creep tests; however, few studies on the slip and fatigue behavior of these joints can be found in the literature. This paper presents an overview of a few experimental programs that were carried out by several authors aiming at evaluating the fatigue behavior of single and double shear resin-injected bolted connections. A comparison between the experimental data of joints with preloaded standard bolts and preloaded resin- injected bolts shows a fatigue strength reduction in the latter. Since Eurocode 3 （EC3） suggests the same fatigue strength curve for joints made of resin-injected bolts and standard bolts, this may raise some con- cerns. Furthermore, research on the feasibility of using both bonded and bolted connections is shown. This last study was performed with high-strength low-alloy structural steel plates and an acrylic struc- tural adhesive for metal bonding. For both case studies, a statistical analysis is performed on fatigue experimental data using linearized boundaries and the Castillo and Fernandez-Canteli model. This article describes a proposal for a double index to estimate the isotropic components of unitary errors in a quantum computation circuit. In the context of this work the error is considered isotropic if it has spherical symmetry about the state of interest. The theoretical definition is given, as well the numerical approximation for practical purposes. The index is tested in some simple examples and the geometric distortion of the propagated error is studied for an inaccurate Shor 9-qubits correcting code.

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis of the pathology results in inadequate classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to point out updated national and international practice protocols of diagnosis of GTD, through an integrative review. Seven articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized (usually one month for Partial Hydatidiform Mole six months for Complete Hydatidiform Mole and one year for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia). Unfortunately, regarding the diagnosis of MH, the guidelines of some countries show the absence or difficulty of access to the karyotype test and ploid p57 or pelvic ultrasound accompanying the uterine curettage, contrary to what is proposed by the IFGO guideline. Establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of recurrence, morbidity and mortality, especially in less developed countries.

This work proposed an architectural alternative project of a stainless steel roof structure that uses roof tiles also in stainless steel with emphasis on roofs for multi-sport *** the development of the work,two existing multi-sports gymnasiums are taken as a reference,but with ASTM(American Society for Testing and Materials)A36 steel roof *** proposed cover system uses cables and light gauge profiles,in commercial stainless steel,which reduces the weight and of course the final price of the roof structure.A structure that presents technical feasibility is obtained and analyzed by checking its behavior with respect to the efforts and displacements generated by the combinations of the acting loads,following the safety recommendations of the applicable *** is verified that using the stainless steel structure proposed in this work would cost 42%of the reference structure if this were in AISI(American Iron and Steel Institute)304 stainless *** this cost tends to be minimized due to greater durability and consequent reduction in maintenance costs of this type of steel.

Phenotypic and Enzymatic Analyses of Upland Rice Lines Seeds under No-Tillage

Over 40% of the agricultural area in Brazil corresponds to no-tillage farming. Although it is evident the importance of obtaining upland rice cultivars adapted to this cropping system, researches in this sense are still incipient and breeders do not have cultivars available to recommend with enough security. The aim of this study was to evaluate phenotypic characters favorable to the no-tillage system in order to establish the basis for upland rice breeding programs interested in this cropping system. The seeds of twenty elite inbred lines from the Upland Rice Breeding Program from the Brazilian research institutions UFLA, EMBRAPA and EPAMIG were evaluated at the Central Seeds Lab from the Agriculture department of UFLA following a randomized block design with four replicates. The characters evaluated were seedlings emergence (SE), green matter yield (GM), dry matter yield (DM), photosynthetic activity (PA), and superoxide dismutase activity (SOD). The quality parameters evaluated were obtained by a germination test (GT), germination first count (GFC), emergence test (E), initial stand (IS), and alpha-amylase expression. The lines CMG 2074, CMG 1967, CMG 2017, BRSMG Caravera and CMG 2097 showed higher SOD content in the enzymatic analyses, and consequently higher tolerance to abiotic stresses that could be caused by no-tillage. Considering the evaluation of agronomic traits, the line CMG 1967 showed the best performance in no-tillage soil and, therefore, should receive higher attention in Upland Rice Breeding Programs.

The Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) stands out among the chronic non-transmissible pathologies that impact the cause and/or aggravation of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) on a global level, as the disease is an underestimated disorder due to non-perceptive symptoms and associated with factors and risk markers of another CVD. Therefore, establishing the risk of progression and aggravation of the SAH, according the Framingham Risk Score (FRS), allows to reducing morbidity and improving preventative measures for DCVs. This observational and transversal study approaches the data collection of patient records at the Health Family Strategy of Senhor do Bonfim, BA, which established differences by descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (correlation and regression). The aspects of hypertension associated with risk factors for atherosclerosis were analyzed, determining the risk of developing cardiovascular events in 10 years by FRS. From 432 families, 746 patients were selected, of which 340 are hypertensive individuals (SAH = 45.57%) and 406 (NSAH = 54.42%) non-hypertensives. Among the SAH the majority (31.17%) was in the age range of 63 - 77, but, in both groups, women were in stronger number. There was greater prevalence in SAH for all the characteristics analyzed, smoking (13.20%), sedentary (29.41%) and cardiovascular accident (22.60%). The SAH group is more susceptive to the CVD progress in 10 years by FRS (P despite the correlations have been significant too, the regression analysis revealed that only Total Cholesterol (P = 0.0086);LDL (P < 0.0001), Glucose (P < 0.0006) and Age (P < 0.0001) have significative association with FRS.
