Regenerativ. medicine requires new ways to assemble and manipulate cells for fabrication of tissue-like constructs. Here we report a nov.l approach for cell surface engineering of human cells using polymer-stabilized magnetic nanoparticles （MNPs）. Cationic polyelectrolyte-coated MNPs are directly deposited onto cellular membranes, producing a mesoporous semi-permeable layer and rendering cells magnetically responsiv.. Deposition of MNPs can be completed within minutes, under cell-friendly conditions （room temperature and physiologic media）. Microscopy （TEM, SEM, AFM, and enhanced dark-field imaging） rev.aled the intercalation of nanoparticles into the cellular microv.lli network. A detailed v.ability inv.stigation was performed and suggested that MNPs do not inhibit membrane integrity, enzymatic activ.ty, adhesion, proliferation, or cytoskeleton formation, and do not induce apoptosis in either cancer or primary cells. Finally, magnetically functionalized cells were employed to fabricate v.able layered planar （two-cell layers） cell sheets and 3D multicellular spheroids.

The chemical and physical properties of rhenium render it a highly demanded metal for adv.nced applications in important industrial fields. This v.ry scarce element occurs mainly in ores of porphyry copper-molybdenum deposits associated with the mineral molybdenite, MoS2, but it has also been found in granite pegmatites and quartz v.ins as well as in v.lcanic gases. Molybdenite is a typical polytype mineral which crystal structure is based on the stacking of [S-Mo-S] with molybdenum in prismatic coordination by sulphide anions;howev.r, it is not yet clearly established if rhenium ions replace Mo4+ cations in a disordered way or else, if such replacement giv.s rise to dispersed nanodomains of a rhenium-rich phase. As a contribution to clarify this question, an X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES) study using synchrotron radiation was performed at the Re L3-edge of rhenium-containing molybdenite samples. obtained results are described and discussed supporting the generally accepted structural perspectiv. that rhenium is mainly carried by molybdenite through the isomorphous replacement of Mo, rather than by the formation of dispersed Re-specific nanophase(s).

We hav. dev.loped efficient numerical algorithms for solv.ng 3D steadystate Poisson-Nernst-Planck(PNP)equations with excess chemical potentials described by the classical density functional theory(cDFT).The coupled PNP equations are discretized by a finite difference scheme and solv.d iterativ.ly using the Gummel method with *** Nernst-Planck equations are transformed into Laplace equations through the Slotboom ***,the algebraic multigrid method is applied to efficiently solv. the Poisson equation and the transformed Nernst-Planck equations.A nov.l strategy for calculating excess chemical potentials through fast Fourier transforms is proposed,which reduces computational complexity from o(N2)to o(NlogN),where N is the number of grid *** inv.lv.ng the Dirac delta function are ev.luated directly by coordinate transformation,which yields more accurate results compared to applying numerical quadrature to an approximated delta *** results for ion and electron transport in solid electrolyte for lithiumion(Li-ion)batteries are shown to be in good agreement with the experimental data and the results from prev.ous studies.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are an uncommon group of tumors of mesenchymal origin. GIST of the anal canal is extremely rare. At present, only 10 cases of c-kit positiv. anal GIST hav. been reported in the literature. There is no widely accepted treatment approach for this neoplasia. Literature is sparse on imaging ev.luation of anal canal GIST, usually described as a lesion in the intersphincteric space. We describe the case of a 73-year-old man with a mass in the anal canal, and no other symptoms. Endoanal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging showed a well circumscribed solid nodule in the intersphincteric space. The patient was treated by local excision. Gross pathological examination showed a 7 cm × 3.5 cm × 3 cm mass, and histological examination showed a proliferation of spindle cells, with prominent nuclear palisading. The mitotic count was of 12 mitoses/50 HPF. The tumor was positiv. for KIT protein, CD34 and v.mentin in the majority of cells, and negativ. for desmin and S100. A diagnosis of GIST, with high risk aggressiv. behav.or was made. An abdomino-perineal resection was discussed, but refused. The follow-up included clinical ev.luation and anal ultrasound. After 5 years the patient is well, with maintained continence and no ev.dence of local recurrence.
