The structures of self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)of short(methyl)and long(hexyl)chain alkyl thiols on the clean gold(111)surface were modeled using for the Au–S interactions either the reactive ReaxFF potential or the well-known nonreactive Morse potential,while for the Au–Au interactions either the ReaxFF potential or an embeddedatom method(EAM).Analysis of the molecular dynamics(MD)trajectories of possible SAM structures suggests that disordering of interfacial Au atoms is definitely driven by the gold–sulphur *** MD results reveal a novel structure where two methanethiol molecules are bound to a gold adatom that has been lifted from the surface at 300 K,and the same kind of RS–Au–SR motif was also observed for hexanethiol at 600 K but not at 300 *** is more,the above motif is only observed for the reactive ReaxFF ***,these results are in clear agreement with recent experiments and more costly first principles-based MD *** findings strongly support the use of reactive potentials such as ReaxFF for gathering an accurate description of Au–S interactions in inexpensive classical MD simulations.

Iron formations are valuable archives of sedimentary conditions and post-depositional ***,geochemical proxies commonly used to determine genetic characteristics can be variably modified during metamorphism and deformation,hampering their use as records of regional geological *** work focuses on strongly reworked magnetite-quartz-rich rocks from the São Josédo Campestre Massif,one of the oldest fragments of preserved crust in South *** genetic classification of these magnetite-quartz-rich rocks is not straightforward because primary assemblages and textures were variably modified by granulite facies metamorphism during a regional Paleoproterozoic migmatization *** address genetic ambiguities,we analyzed their magnetite and pyroxene chemistry,wholerock geochemistry,and Sm-Nd *** chemistry indicates that pyroxene-poor iron formations(Type B)are low in trace elements such as Ti,Al,V,and Mn,suggesting a chemical similarity to iron formations *** contrast,magnetites from pyroxene-enriched Type A iron formations are rich in trace elements and more akin to magnetite crystallized from higher temperature systems,such as skarn and ***^(147)Sm/^(144)Nd of these rocks show substantial variation even at the outcrop scale,indicating a locally-controlled,highly heterogeneous mixture of Archean,Paleoproterozoic,and Neoproterozoic ***,our geochemical tools point out to heterogenous signatures of these magnetitequartz rocks and proxies compatible with both low and high-temperature conditions and age of deposition spanning sources from the Archean to the *** interpret that the studied São Josédo Campestre magnetite-quartz rocks represent Archean iron formations with original magnetite chemistry and isotopic signatures variably modified by metamorphism and by at least one deformation-related hydrothermal *** results contrast with similar examples from China and Greenland where iron formation

Aims natural vegetation plays an important role in global carbon cycling and ***,the Cerrado(Brazilian savannah)is considered a carbon sink because of its intrinsic *** aim was to evaluate how the aboveground biomass and biodiversity relationship change between three Cerrado remnants with different protection status:a‘control area’(Legal Reserve area),a protected area(PA)and a non-protected area(Non-PA).Methods All three studied fragments are situated in northern Minas Gerais state,*** estimated the aboveground carbon stocks based on the forest *** also measured three dimensions of biodiversity metrics for each plot:functional trait dominance,taxonomic diversity and functional *** following functional traits were evaluated for the species:wood density,maximum diameter and seed *** carried out generalized linear models seeking to evaluate how carbon stocks,community-weighted mean(CWM)trait values,species richness and diversity,and functional diversity indices differ among the *** Findings The Cerrado areas without protection status had lower carbon stocks,species richness,species diversity,functional richness and functional dispersion,whereas both PA and Non-PA had lower CWM maximum diameter and seed size compared with the Legal Reserve control *** linear models showed that carbon stocks,species and functional richness metrics were correlated within and across sites,and thus,species richness could serve as a good proxy for functional richness and carbon *** carbon stocks were positively driven by species richness and CWM maximum diameter,while they were negatively driven by functional *** richness,species diversity and CWM seed size appeared in the set of best models,but with no significant direct effect on carbon ***,we concluded that absence of protection in the Cerrado areas decreases both species richness and carbon stocks.

Short-Time Derivatization Method for Analysis of Abamectin in Water Using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Fluorescence Detector

A method using a short-time derivatization step for the assessment of abamectin in water is presented. Abamectin derivative stable up to 7 days was obtained. Some regions where orange crops are present have received abamectin doses, aiming to increase the productivity and to combat pests and weeds, even when its residues reach the aquatic environment and interfere on water quality. Water samples from Jacaré-Pepira River (Brotas City, Brazil) nearby orange crops around urban zone, were evaluated for the presence of abamectin. The analytical method was validated resulting recovery around 108%, precision of 12%, accuracy of 104%, correlation coefficient of 0.9945, and detection and quantification limits of 0.1 μg·L﹣1 and 0.2 μg·L﹣1, respectively. Stable abamectin derivative was reached after 60 min of derivatization at room temperature (25°C). No abamectin residues were found into samples.

Technological development has led to the emergence of new substances with many different purposes generating a new profile of pollutants in waterways. Among these, endocrine disruptors, such as 17EE （17ct-ethinylestradiol）, are of great importance due to their wide application and harmful consequences to the environment, human health and animals. The inefficiency of most water treatment processes in withdrawing such substances poses a global concern for the development of effective and environmentally clean methods. The electrochemical remediation processes appear as a powerful and ＂green＂ alternative for waste removal of organic or inorganic pollutants from complex environments, such as geosphere and hydrosphere. The research focus in this field is mostly related to the optimization of electronic devices with higher （photo） catalytic efficiency, whereas the starting material remains based on metal and carbon conventional electrodes. In the present study, the anodic removal process of 17ct-ethinylestradiol at carbon cardboards was investigated in stationary and hydrodynamic conditions. The influence of pH and applied potential were evaluated, always taking into account the transposition of scale and environmental aspects. Thus, the principle of hormone removal showed to be strictly related to such parameters. It was observed that mild alkaline medium favors the anodic oxidation, whereas neutral and mild acid ones lead to higher adsorption at carbon surface. Also, when the applied potential was higher than 1.25 V, the electrochemical oxidation rate increased, and the adsorption was decreased. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of ! 7EE showed to be lower, the flow rate was higher.

Obesity is a public health problem and its prevalence increases every year, resulting from a complex interaction between genetic, metabolic and environmental factors, as well as cultural influences. The Intestinal Microbiota is composed of trillions of microorganisms by forming a symbiotic relationship with the host and helping the absorption of various nutrients, increasing the extraction of components of the diet, the lipogenesis and intestinal permeability. Studies show that there is difference between the composition of the intestinal microbiota of an obese person and a healthy one. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the relationship between the Intestinal Microbiota, Obesity and Insulin Resistance and also illustrate some studies on the subject.

在比较蛋白质组学中,分级过程经常被用于去除高丰度蛋白质,从而提高低丰度蛋白质的浓度至检出限以上。作者为了证实在二维凝胶电泳分离流程中增加额外的分级过程将会减小对金头鲷宰前应激响应时间依赖检测中所引入的噪声和批次间的偏差,采用多维标度对结果数据进行了多参数分析。结果表明生物响应比分级引入的误差高出几个数量级,而批次间误差不小于不同IEF/SDS-PAGE运行所引入的偏差。

Different global agendas have discussed the role of soils in mitigating and reducing global problems related to climate change,food security,biodiversity and erosion,among *** this in mind,the aim was to draw up an overview of the main soil agendas in Europe and Brazil,analysing their impact on the establishment of legal frameworks for soil use and *** Brazil,pastures are seen as an important alternative for converting degraded areas into ecosystem *** this end,a literature review was carried out using databases on the Scopus,Web of Science,Science Direct and Scielo platforms,as well as consulting documents from the European Union Missions in Horizon Europe and Brazilian legislation on the *** a pilot river basin,the Potential for Conservation Use(PCU)method was applied,which is used in Brazil to assess the impacts of different uses on the natural capital of soils,serving as a metric to guide public soil conservation *** was concluded that,on the European scene,discussions on soils have taken place in an integrated and organised way,with actions to mobilise different players in *** Brazil,even though there are important legal frameworks,actions are still restricted and disjointed,pointing to the need for progress in soil *** both scenarios,there is a need for scientifically validated metrics at regional scales that can contribute to a harmonised database capable of subsidising the development of efficient public policies to advance soil conservation at a global level.

Toxins isolated from the venom of the spider Phoneutria nigriventer either inhibit or activate a vast number of targets, such as ion channels, with high selectivity and affinity. PhTx3-1 toxin is a selective blocker of IA currents of K^＋ channels, and PhTx3-3 and PhTx3-4 are calcium channel blockers of the P/Q-type calcium channels. The spider neurotoxin PhTx3-6 reversibly and non-specifically inhibits high-voltage-activated Ca^2＋ channels with varying potency （N 〉 R 〉 P/Q 〉 L） in heterologous and native systems. There has been a huge increase in the range of medical disorders involving ionic channels, and blockers of these channels have potential as therapeutic agents. The mechanism of action of each toxin family is different; thus, each needs to be evaluated for its therapeutic potential. This review will focus on peptide toxins purified from the venom of the spider Phoneutria nigriventer that are currently being evaluated in preclinical tests as possible drugs for the treatment of pain, cardiac arrhythmias and ischemia.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and epidemiological projections predict growing cancer mortality rates in the next *** has a close relationship with the immune system and,although Th17 cells are known to play roles in the immune response against microorganisms and in autoimmunity,studies have emphasized their roles in cancer *** Th17 immune response profile is involved in several types of cancer including urogenital,respiratory,gastrointestinal,and skin *** type of immune response exerts pro and antitumor functions through several mechanisms,depending on the context of each tumor,including the protumor angiogenesis and exhaustion of T cells and the antitumor recruitment of T cells and neutrophils to the tumor *** other factors,the paradoxical behavior of Th17 cells in this setting has been attributed to its plasticity potential,which makes possible their conversion into other types of T cells such as Th17/Treg and Th17/Th1 ***(IL)-17 stands out among Th17-related cytokines since it modulates pathways and interacts with other cell profiles in the tumor microenvironment,which allow Th17 cells to prevail in ***,the IL-17 is able to mediate pro and antitumor processes that influence the development and progression of various cancers,being associated with variable clinical *** understanding of the relationship between the Th17 immune response and cancer as well as the singularities of carcinogenic processes in each type of tumor is crucial for the identification of new therapeutic targets.
