Am.ng the im.acts of clim.te change,there is the intensification of phenom.na such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the m.st rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** perm.nent plots were used to sam.le *** effects were evident for WHC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHC with precipitation and hum.dity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with tem.erature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term.assessm.nts,prelim.nary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly im.acted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific com.unity about the im.acts of clim.te change on the m.intenance of litter stocks,decom.osition and,consequently,the biogeochem.cal cycle and essential ecosystem.services for the m.intenance of Am.zonia *** need to develop long-term.research to understand the effects of clim.tic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Am.zonia.

Im.ortance:The 3-m.n step test is a sim.le option to m.nitor subm.xim.l exercise capacity,although its use via rem.te video m.nitoring has not been investigated in children with cystic fibrosis(CF).Objective:This study aim.d to assess the feasibility and reproducibility of perform.ng the 3-m.n step test with rem.te ***:A cross-sectional study including CF patients(6-18 years)from.two CF services were ***,anthropom.tric,clinical,and lung function data were collected and two 3-m.n step tests were perform.d:(i)in-person supervision,and(ii)rem.tely supervised by video *** and after the tests,heart rate(HR),oxygen saturation(SpO2),and the Borg score for dyspnea and lower lim. fatigue were ***:Twenty-three patients(10.7±3.7 years)with a m.an FEV1 of 89.5%±23.2%were *** were no significant differences between tests,with m.an differences(95%confidence intervals)in final HR of-3.3(-8.9,2.4),change in HR of-1.9(-6.1,2.1),final SpO2 of 0.3(-0.4,1.0),and final dyspnea of 0.1(-0.8,0.9).The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.852(final HR),0.762(final SpO2),and 0.775(final lower lim. fatigue).Significant and m.derate correlations were found between tests for final HR(r=0.75),change in HR(r=0.61),and final SpO2(r=0.61).The Bland-Altm.n analysis showed a m.an difference in final SpO2 between tests of 0.3%(lim.t of agreem.nt-3.0%,3.5%).Interpretation:Physiological responses between tests were sim.lar,indicating it was feasible to perform.the 3-m.n step test with rem.te supervision in CF children.

Assessm.nt of Genetic Diversity in Contrasting Sugarcane Varieties Using Inter-Sim.le Sequence Repeat (ISSR) m.rkers

Sugarcane is an im.ortant tropical crop, responsible for two thirds of the world sugar production, gaining actually im.ortance as a source of biofuel. Drought tolerance is a very im.ortant feature considering the actual clim.te change scenario throughout the world. This study aim.d to determ.ne the genetic diversity between sugarcane varieties with contrasting features under drought. For this purpose, twelve ISSR prim.rs were used to characterize nine sugarcane varieties under cultivation in different countries including selected drought resistant m.terial from.Northeast Brazil and two varieties from.India as contrasting genotypes. 317 scorable bands were generated, am.ng which 301 com.rised polym.rphic m.rkers, with an average of 25 polym.rphic bands per prim.r. In the generated dendrogram.the accessions were placed in clusters, where cluster A included two varieties from.India (Co331 and Co419), and B com.rised plants eight Brazilian accessions and a ‘Barbado’ variety. Within this clade, drought tolerant and susceptible varieties were clearly separated. The present evaluation revealed im.ortant contrasting parental candidates regarding their drought response, very prom.sing for future m.pping approaches aim.ng the identification of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated to drought in sugarcane. The selected prim.rs were used for the first tim. in sugarcane, representing valuable tools for future evaluations, with em.hasis to diversity characterization and genetic m.pping.

Perform.nce of evolutionary optim.zed m.chine learning for m.deling total organic carbon in core sam.les of shale gas fields

Rock sam.les' TOC content is the best indicator of the organic m.tter in source rocks. The origin rock sam.les' analysis is used to calculate it m.nually by specialists. This m.thod requires tim. and resources because it relies on sam.les from.m.ny well intervals in source rocks. Therefore, research has been done to aid this effort. m.chine learning algorithm. can estim.te total organic carbon instead of well logs and stratigraphic studies. In light of these efforts, the current work present a study on autom.ting the total organic carbon estim.tion using m.chine learning approaches im.roved by an evolutionary m.thodology to give the m.del flexibility and precision. Genetic algorithm., differential evolution, particle swarm.optim.zation, grey wolf optim.zation, artificial bee colony, and evolution strategies were used to im.rove m.chine learning m.dels to predict TOC. The six m.taheuristics were integrated into four m.chine learning m.thods: extrem. learning m.chine, elastic net linear m.del, linear support vector regression, and m.ltivariate adaptive regression splines. Core sam.les from.the YuDong-Nan shale gas field, located in the Sichuan basin, were used to evaluate the hybrid strategy. The findings show that com.ining m.chine learning m.dels with an evolutionary algorithm. in a hybrid fashion produce flexible m.dels that accurately predict TOC. The results show that, independent of the m.taheuristic used to guide the m.del selection, optim.zed extrem. learning m.chines attained the best perform.nce scores according to six m.trics. Such hybrid m.dels can be used in exploratory geological research,particularly for unconventional oil and gas resources.

Background Schistosom.asis is highly endem.c in sub-Saharan Africa and frequently im.orted to Europe. m.le urogenital m.nifestations are often neglected. We aim.d to ascertain the prevalence of genitourinary clinical signs and sym.tom. am.ng long-term.African m.grants in a non-endem.c European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, com.unity-based cross-sectional study of adult m.le m.grants from.sub-Saharan Africa living in *** serology tests and m.croscopic urine exam.nations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained from.an electronic m.dical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult m.les, m.an age 43.5 years [Standard deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The m.dian tim. since m.gration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartile range (IQR): 11–21] years. The m.st frequent country of origin was Senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosom.. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical item. were significantly associated with positiveSchistosom. serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), self-reported episodes of infertility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haem.turia (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndrom.c STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1).
