Members of the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known fungi associated with dieback,canker and fruit rot on various hosts worldwide,including *** aim of this study was identify a large collection of Botryosphaeriaceae species associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 115 isolates were sampled and based on morphology and DNA sequence data(ITS and EF1-α)seven taxa were identified,namely,Botryosphaeria dothidea,***,Fusicoccum fabicercianum,Neofusicoccum parvum,*** ***,Neoscytalidium dimidiatum and Pseudofusicoccum *** and *** were the most commonly isolated species,which represented 37%and 33%of all isolates *** is reported for the first time in association with mango diseases *** were significant differences among the species obtained in this study in relation to optimum temperature for mycelial growth and mycelial growth *** species were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,with *** and *** being the most virulent species,while *** was the least virulent.

Fe_(3)O_(4)magnetic xerogel composites were prepared by polycondensation of resorcinol(R)-formaldehyde reaction via a sol-gel process in an aqueous solution through varying the molar ratio of Fe_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles(MNPs),catalyst(C),and water(w)*** were obtained by co-precipitation(MC),oxidation of iron salts(MO),or solvothermal synthesis(MS).Both MNPs and magnetic xerogels were examined regarding the performance of arsenic and fluoride removal in a batch *** MC-based MNPs had higher adsorption capacities for both fluoride(202.9 mg/g)and arsenic(3.2 mg/g)than other MNPs in optimum *** X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed that Fe was composed into the polymeric matrix of magnetic xerogels that contained 0.59%-4.42%of Fe with a molar ratio of MNPs(M)to R between 0.01 and *** low R/C and optimum M/R ratios,an increase in the surface area of magnetic xerogels affected the fluoride and arsenic adsorption *** magnetic xerogel composites with the MC-based MNPs prepared at a fixed R/C ratio(100)and at different R/w(0.05-0.06)and M/R(0.07-0.10)ratios had a high arsenic removal efficiency of 100%at an As(V)concentration of 0.1 mg/l and pH of *** maximum adsorption capacities of magnetic xerogels were approximately five times higher than those of the xerogels without MNP ***,Fe_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles enhanced the adsorption of arsenate and *** variations of alkaline catalyst and water content significantly affected the resulting properties of textural and surface chemistry of magnetic xerogel composites.

Unlike other balistids, grey triggerfish Batistes capriscus occur in social groups in subtropical reef assemblages andhave been noted to cooperate in capturing large crustacean prey. The objective of this study were to determine the structure ofdominance hierarchies of these social groups and the factors that influence hierarchies of wild-caught grey triggerfish in a naturalisticsetting. From observations of four groups of triggerfish (n - 19 fish) in both dyad and group (4-5 fish) settings, we providea description of triggerfish behaviors and coloration patterns and an explanation of the social context in which suites of behaviorsare used by dominant, middle-ranking, and subordinate fish. Sixteen behaviors and nine coloration patterns were noted forgrey triggerfish. Grey triggerfish groups form linear hierarchies in both dyads and groups as measured by landau's Index oflinearity (h = 1.0 for Groups 1, 3, and 4 and h = 0.95 for Group 2 in dyads; h = 1.0 for all groups in group settings). Dyadic hierarchies,however, were not necessarily good predictors of the hierarchies found in larger group settings, as they only predictedtwo of the four group hierarchies. Sex played no role in influencing status or behavior. Size had the greatest influence on dominancestatus, with larger fish being more dominant than smaller fish. An individual's dominance ranking influenced both bodycoloration and posture. These results suggest that color patterns and body postures may also be used by observers as an indicatorof an individual's social status in

The Puesto Piris Formation: Evidence of basin-development in the North Patagonian Massif during crustal extension associated with Gondwana breakup

The Marifil Volcanic Complex, exposed in the eastern North Patagonian Massif, Argentina, includes up to 550 m of red conglomerates, sandstones, black siltstones, limestones, and reworked tuff of the Puesto Piris Formation. The basal part of this unit, which was deposited in high-gradient topographic relief, is composed of conglomerates and sandstones with thin layers of reworked tuffs. The lithofacies associations of the basal part indicate that the depositional mechanisms were mantled and gravitational *** middle part of the unit consists of fine sandstones, limestones, and black siltstones that were deposited in low-energy fluvial and lacustrine environments. The outcrops are located along the NEe Sw direction and the major thickest units represented by limestones and siltstones, occur near the southeastern border of this NEeS w depocenter. Since the rhyolitic and trachytic lava flows and tuffs of the Marifil Volcanic Complex are interbedded with the sedimentary sequences of the Puesto Piris Formation,both units are coeval. Zircon Ue Pb age was obtained for a trachytic lava flow(193.4 ±3.1 Ma) suggesting that sedimentation and volcanism are Sinemurian. This extensional episode was recorded in the eastern,western, and southwestern sectors of the North Patagonian Massif, and is possibly associated with the Gondwana supercontinent breakup.

PllA-modified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were produced from commercial CNC by tin-catalyzed polymerization of lactide in presence of CNC. FTIR spectroscopy demonstrated that the result of the reaction produced the grafting of PllA chains onto CNC surface (CNC-g-PllA). Films of poly(lactic acid) (PlA) and PlA/CNC nanocomposites (with non-modified CNC and CNC-g-PllA) containing 0.5% and 5% (w/w) of the nanofillers were prepared by casting in chloroform solution and the crystallization behavior and thermal properties investigated. All nano-composites had similar thermal stability when analyzed by TGA analyses under an inert nitrogen atmosphere. Addition of both types of CNC influenced crystallization, the higher crystallization rate being observed for 5% (w/w) CNC. Nanocomposites with 5% (w/w) CNC-g-PllA had the strain resistance of PlA improved in the rubbery state. PllA-modification of CNC surface increased the crystallization of PlA in PlA/CNC nanocomposites and improved the rigidity at temperatures above the glass transition, properties which are desirable for hot drinking application.

The Brazilian state of Acre has an extensive natural reserve of bamboo,making it one of the largest in loco gene *** aim of this study was to characterize the structure and genetic diversity of Guadua weberbaueri *** two populations,one native(FAPB)and the other anthropized(FAPBA),using ISSR *** results show that the FAPB population exhibited higher values for all estimates of population ***,the FAPBA population also showed high heterozygosity,corroborated by estimated gene flow(Nm=3.9)between the *** study of the association between Nei’s genetic distances and the geographic distances between the populations were significantly correlated(r=0.45,p=0.01),corroborated by the dendrogram revealing two distinct groups corresponding to the collection sites,without mixing classes between populations in the same *** for the coancestry coefficient,pairs of individuals in the first distance class were positive and significant,indicating that plants that are geographically closer share common alleles with a frequency greater than by chance,which means that there is a tendency that geographically closer individuals are *** presented similar genetic structure when the geographical distance between them was up to 56 m for FAPB and up to 156 m for *** was concluded that anthropized environments exhibit less genetic diversity than native environments,inferring risks for species conservation if appropriate and planned management techniques are not adopted.
