Concentra.ed suspensions of Brownia. ha.d-spheres in wa.er a.e a. epitome for understa.ding the gla.sy dyna.ics of both soft ma.eria.s a.d supercooled molecula. liquids. From a. experimenta. point of view, such systems a.e especia.ly suited to perform pa.ticle tra.king ea.ily, a.d, therefore, a.e a.benchma.k for novel optica. techniques, a.plica.le when prima.y pa.ticles ca.not be resolved. Differentia. va.ia.ce a.a.ysis（DVa. is one such novel technique tha. simplifies significa.tly the cha.a.teriza.ion of structura. rela.a.ion processes of soft gla.sy ma.eria.s, since it is directly a.plica.le to digita. ima.e sequences of the sa.ple. DVa.succeeds in monitoring not only the a.era.e dyna.ics, but a.so its spa.io-tempora. fluctua.ions, known a. dyna.ic heterogeneities. In this work, we study the dyna.ics of dense suspensions of Brownia. bea.s in wa.er, ima.ed through digita. video-microscopy, by using both DVa.a.d single-pa.ticle tra.king. We focus on two commonly used signa.ures of dyna.ic heterogeneities: the dyna.ic susceptibility, χ4, a.d the non-Ga.ssia. pa.a.eter, α2. By direct compa.ison of these two qua.tities,we a.e a.le to highlight simila.ities a.d differences. We do confirm tha. χ4 a.d α2 provide qua.ita.ively simila. informa.ion, but we find qua.tita.ive discrepa.cies in the sca.ings of cha.a.teristic time a.d length sca.e on a.proa.hing the gla.s tra.sition.

The work presented here focused on the extra.tion of gold (a.), silver (a.) a.d pa.la.ium (Pd) from electronic wa.te using a.solution of a.monium thiosulfa.e. Thiosulfa.e wa. used a. a.va.id a.terna.ive to cya.ide for precious meta. extra.tions, due to its non-toxicity a.d high selectivity. The intera.tions between sodium thiosulfa.e, tota. a.monia.a.monium, precious meta. concentra.ions a.d the pa.ticle size of the wa.te printed circuit boa.ds (WPCBs) were studied by the response surfa.e methodology (RSM) a.d the principa. component a.a.ysis (PCa. to ma.imize precious meta. mobiliza.ion. a. extra.tion rea.hed a.high efficiency with a.gra.ulometry of less tha. 0.25 mm, but the consumption of rea.ents wa. high. On the other ha.d, a. extra.tion depended neither on thiosulfa.e/a.monia.concentra.ion nor gra.ulometry of WPCBs a.d it showed efficiency of 90% a.so with the biggest pa.ticle size (0.50 a.tion, simila.ly to a., showed the best efficiency with the sma.lest a.d the medium WPCB sizes, but required less rea.ents compa.ed to a.. The results showed tha. precious meta. lea.hing is a.complex process (ma.nly for a., which requires more severe conditions in order to a.hieve high extra.tion efficiencies) correla.ed with rea.ent concentra.ions, precious meta. concentra.ions a.d WPCB pa.ticle sizes. These results ha.e grea. potentia.ity, suggesting the possibility of a.more selective recovery of precious meta.s ba.ed on the different gra.ulometry of the WPCBs. Furthermore, the high extra.tion efficiencies obta.ned for a.l the meta.s bode well in the perspective of la.ge-sca.e a.plica.ions.
