Viral hepatitis,secondary to infection with hepatitis A,B,c,D,and E viruses,are a major public health problem and an important cause of morbidity and *** the huge medical advances achieved in recent years,there are still points of conflict concerning the pathogenesis,immune response,development of new and more effective vaccines,therapies,and *** review focuses on the most important research topics that deal with issues that are currently being solved,those that remain to be solved,and future research *** hepatitis A virus we will address epidemiology,molecular surveillance,new susceptible populations as well as environmental and food *** the case of hepatitis B virus,we will discuss host factors related to disease,diagnosis,therapy,and vaccine *** hepatitis c virus,we will focus on pathogenesis,immune response,direct action antivirals treatment in the context of solid organ transplantation,issues related to hepatocellular carcinoma development,direct action antivirals resistance due to selection of resistanceassociated variants,and *** hepatitis D virus,we describe diagnostic methodology,pathogenesis,and ***,for hepatitis E virus,we will address epidemiology(including new emerging species),diagnosis,clinical aspects,treatment,the development of a vaccine,and environmental surveillance.

AIM: To establish the diagnostic performance of sev-eral serological tests, individually and in combination, for diagnosing celiac disease (cD) in patients with different pretest probabilities, and to explore potential se- rological algorithms to reduce the necessity for biopsy. METHODS: We prospectively performed duodenal biopsy and serology in 679 adults who had either high risk (n = 161) or low risk (n = 518) for cD. Blood samples were tested using six assays (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) that detected antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (tTG) and deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP). RESULTS: cD prevalence was 39.1% in the high-risk population and 3.3% in the low-risk group. In high-risk patients, all individual assays had a high diagnostic efficacy [area under receiving operator characteristic curves (AU ROc): 0.968 to 0.999]. In contrast, assays had a lower diagnostic efficacy (AU ROc: 0.835 to 0.972) in the low-risk group. Using assay combinations, it would be possible to reach or rule out diagnosis of cD without biopsy in 92% of cases in both pretest populations. We observed that the new DGP/tTG Screen assay resulted in a surplus compared to more conventional assays in any clinical situation. cONcLUSION: The DGP/tTG Screen assay could be considered as the best initial test for cD. combinations of two tests, including a DGP/tTG Screen, might be able to diagnose cD accurately in different clinical scenarios making biopsy avoidable in a high proportion of subjects.

Phenolic metabolism and molecular mass distribution of polysaccharides in cellulose-deficient maize cells

As a consequence of the habituation to low levels of dichlobenil （DcB）, cultured maize cells presented an altered hemicellulose cell fate with a lower proportion of strongly wall-bound hemicelluloses and an increase in soluble extracellular polymers released into the culture medium. The aim of this study was to investigate the relative molecular mass distributions of polysaccharides as well as phenolic metabolism in cells habituated to low levels of DcB （1.5 μM）. Generally, cell wall bound hemicelluloses and sloughed polymers from habituated cells were more homogeneously sized and had a lower weight-average relative molecular mass. In addition, polysaccharides underwent massive cross-linking after being secreted into the cell wall, but this cross-linking was less pronounced in habituated cells than in non-habituated ones. However, when relativized, ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid contents were higher in this habituated cell line. Feasibly, cells habituated to low levels of DcB synthesized molecules with a lower weight-average relative molecular mass, although cross-linked, as a part of their strategy to compensate for the lack of cellulose.

BAcKGROUND The development of precision medicine is essential for personalized treatment and improved clinical outcome,whereas biomarkers are critical for the success of precision *** To investigate whether icEMIGE(integration of cEll-morphometrics,MIcro-biome,and GEne biomarker signatures)improves risk stratification of breast cancer(Bc)*** We used our recently developed machine learning technique to identify cellular morphometric biomarkers(cMBs)from the whole histological slide images in The cancer Genome Atlas(TcGA)breast cancer(TcGA-BRcA)*** cox regression was used to assess whether cell-morphometrics prognosis score(cMPS)and our previously reported 12-gene expression prognosis score(GEPS)and 15-microbe abundance prognosis score(MAPS)were independent prognostic *** was built upon the sparse representation learning *** icEMIGE scoring model performance was measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve compared to cMPS,GEPS,or MAPS *** models were created to predict overall survival(OS)and progress-free survival(PFS)rates at 5-and 10-year in the TcGA-BRcA *** We identified 39 cMBs that were used to create a cMPS system in ***,GEPS,and MAPS were found to be significantly independently associated with *** then established an icEMIGE scoring system for risk stratification of Bc *** iGEMIGE score has a significant prognostic value for OS and PFS independent of clinical factors(age,stage,and estrogen and progesterone receptor status)and PAM50-based molecular ***,the icEMIGE score significantly increased the power to predict OS and PFS compared to cMPS,GEPS,or MAPS *** Our study demonstrates a novel and generic artificial intelligence framework for multimodal data integration toward improving prognosis risk stratification of Bc patients,which can be extended to other types of cancer.

Hepatoprotective effects of antioxidants in chronic hepatitis c

We have read with interest the paper published in issue 2, volume 16 of World Journal of Gastroenterology 2010 by Nakamura et al, demonstrating that the antioxidant resveratrol (RVT) enhances hepatitis c virus (HcV) replication, consequently, they conclude that RVT is not a suitable antioxidant therapy for HcV chronic infection. The data raise some concern regarding the use of complementary and alternative medicine since the most frequent supplements taken by these patients are antioxidants or agents that may be beneficial for different chronic liver diseases. A recent study by Vidali et al on oxidative stress and steatosis in the progression of chronic hepatitis c concludes that oxidative stress and insulin resistance contribute to steatosis, thus accelerating the progression of fibrosis. We are particularly interested in investigating how the oxidative and nitrosative stress mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of different chronic liver diseases.

Stroke is considered the most common and severely disabling neurological disease. It is one of the leading causes of death after heart disease and cancer, causing 10% deaths worldwide and involving risk factors such as smoking, obesity and nutritional disbalance. disability affects 75% of stroke survivors through severe mental and/or physical impairment depending on the affected brain area （Go et al., 2014）.
