Association between urinary concentrations of bisphenol A substitutes and diabetes in adults

BACKGROUND Due to new restrictions on the use of bisphenol A(BPA),industries are beginning to replace it with derived molecules such as bisphenol S and F(BPS and BPF).There is extensive evidence in the academic literature on the potential health effects of BPA,which is known to be a diabetogenic ***,there are few publications related to new compounds derived from *** To perform an epidemiological study of urinary BPS and BPF in the American National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)cohort,and analyze their possible relationship with diabetes *** NHANES datasets from 2013 to 2016 were used due to the urinary BPF and BPS *** from 3658 adults were analyzed to perform regression analysis exploring the possible relationship between BPA-derived compounds and *** Descriptive statistics,linear regression modeling,and logistic regression analysis revealed a significant relationship between urinary BPS,but not BPF,and diabetes ***,a relationship was observed between both compounds and hypertension and a slight relationship between BPF and *** in the present study,a strong relationship between urinary BPS,not BPF,and diabetes risk has been *** substitute molecules do not exempt the population from potential health risks.

Malignant colorectal polyps

Nowadays, the number of cases in which malignant colorectal polyps are removed is increasing due to colorectal cancer screening programmes. Cancerous polyps are classified into non-invasive high grade neoplasia (NHGN), when the cancer has not reached the muscularis mucosa, and malignant polyps, classed as T1, when they have invaded the submucosa. NHGN is considered cured with polypectomy, while the prognosis for malignant polyps depends on various morphological and histological factors. The prognostic factors include, sessile or pedunculated morphology of the polyp, whether partial or en bloc resection is carried out, the degree of differentiation of the carcinoma, vascular or lymphatic involvement, and whether the polypectomy resection margin is tumor free. A malignant polyp at T1 is considered cured with polypectomy ifit is a pedunculated polyp (ip of the Paris classification), it has been completely resected, it is not poorly differentiated, the resection edge is not affected by the tumor and there is no vascular or lymphatic involvement. The sessile malignant polyp (is of the Paris classification) at T1 is considered not cured with polypectomy. Only in some cases (e.g. older people with high surgical risk) local excision(polypectomy or endoscopic submucosal dissection or conventional endoscopic mucosal resection) is considered the definitive treatment.

Wnts are a highly conserved family of Upid-modified glycoproteins that work as morphogens to activate several signaling pathways, leading to remodeling of the cytoskeleton and the regulation of gene transcription. Wnt signaling regulates multiple cellular functions and cell systems, including the development and maintenance of midbrain dopaminergic （m DA） neurons. These neurons are of consid- erable interest for regenerative medicine because their degeneration results in Parkinson＇s disease （PD）. This review focuses on new advances in understanding key functions of Wnts in mDA neuron development and using novel tools to regulate Wnt signaling in re- generative medicine for PD. Particularly, recent reports indicate that appropriate levels of Wnt signaling are essential to improve the quantity and quality of stem ceil- or reprogrammed ceU-derived mDA neurons to be used in drug discovery and cell replacement therapy for PD.

Corrosion resistance of pulsed laser modified AZ31 Mg alloy surfaces

The effect of laser surface melting on the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloy in 0.1 M NaCl solution was investigated using different laser processing conditions(energy densities of 14 and 17 J cm^(-2)).Laser treatment induced rough surfaces primarily composed of oxidized species of *** analysis revealed that the surface concentration of Al increased significantly as a consequence of *** impedance spectroscopy showed that the laser treatment remarkably increased the polarization resistance of the AZ31 Mg alloy and induced a passive-like region of about 100 mV,as determined by potentiodynamic *** of the results obtained provide solid evidence that within the immersion times used in this study,LSM treatment increased the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloy under open circuit conditions and anodic polarization.

Fate of polyphenols in pili(Canarium ovatum Engl.) pomace after in vitro simulated digestion

Objective: To evaluate the stability and bioavailability of polyphenols in pili(Canarium ovatum Engl.) pomace during simulated in vitro ***: Freeze-dried pili pomace was subjected to in vitro digestion simulating conditions in the stomach, small intestine and colon. Total polyphenols, anthocyanins, fl avonoids and condensed tannins, and its antioxidant activity – 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, 2,20-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid, and ferric reducing antioxidant power were measured using standard spectrophotometric ***: in vitro digestion of pili pomace resulted in reduction of phenolic *** tannins and anthocyanins were released in the gastric and intestinal stages,while total polyphenols and flavonoids after fermentation simulating colonic *** values of the bioavailable fractions showed that more than 90% of activity was lost during simulated ***: Findings indicate that pili pomace is a promising functional ingredient for food and dietary supplements which can furnish potentially bioavailable phenolic antioxidants to the body.

Systematic exploration of signal-based indicators for failure diagnosis in the context of cyber-physical systems

Malfunction or breakdown of certain mission critical systems(MCSs) may cause losses of life, damage the environments, and/or lead to high costs. Therefore, recognition of emerging failures and preventive maintenance are essential for reliable operation of MCSs. There is a practical approach for identifying and forecasting failures based on the indicators obtained from real life processes. We aim to develop means for performing active failure diagnosis and forecasting based on monitoring statistical changes of generic signal features in the specific operation modes of the system. in this paper, we present a new approach for identifying emerging failures based on their manifestations in system signals. Our approach benefits from the dynamic management of the system operation modes and from simultaneous processing and characterization of multiple heterogeneous signal sources. it improves the reliability of failure diagnosis and forecasting by investigating system performance in various operation modes, includes reasoning about failures and forming of failures using a failure indicator matrix which is composed of statistical deviation of signal characteristics between normal and failed operations, and implements a failure indicator concept that can be used as a plug and play failure diagnosis and failure forecasting feature of cyber-physical systems. We demonstrate that our method can automate failure diagnosis in the MCSs and lend the MCSs to the development of decision support systems for preventive maintenance.
