OBG-like GTPases, a subfamily of P-loop GTPases, have divers and important functions in bacteria, including initiation of sporulation, DNA replication, and protein translation. Homologs of the Bacillus subtilis spo0B GTP-binding protein （OBG） can be found in plants and algae but their specific function in these organisms has not yet been elucidated. Here, it is shown that ATSG18570 encodes an Arabidopsis thaliana OBG-like protein （AtOBGL） that is localized in chlor- oplasts. In contrast to the bacterial members of this protein family, AtOBGL and other OBG-like proteins from green algae and plants possess an additional N-terminal domain, indicating functional adaptation. Disruption of the gene locus of ATOBGL by TDNA insertion resulted in an embryo-lethal phenotype and light microscopy using Normarski optics revealed that embryo maturation in the atobgl mutant is arrested at the late globular stage before development of a green embryo. Expression of 35S：：ATOBGL within the atobgl mutant background could rescue the mutant phenotype, confirming that embryo-lethality is caused by the loss of AtOBGL. Together, the data show that the bacterial-derived OBG-like GTPases have retained an essential role in chloroplasts of plants and algae. They furthermore corroborate the significance of chloroplast functions for embryo development -- an important stage within the Arabidopsis lifecycle.

ZnO nanoparticles（ZnO NPs） were synthesized by chemical method（coprecipitation） and biological method using aqueous extracts of garlic（Allium sativum）,rosemary（Rosmarinus officinalis） and basil（Ocimum basilicum）.The influence of plant extract on the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of green synthesized nanoparticles was *** X-ray diffraction studies reveal that all ZnO samples have hexagonal wurtzite *** particle size of ZnO NPs estimated by transmission electron microscopy analysis（between 14 and 27 nm） varies depending on the synthesis method of nanoparticles and the type of extracts from the plants *** functional groups involved in the biosynthetic procedure were evidenced by Fourier transform infrared *** presence of Mn^（2＋）ions,Zn vacancy complexes and oxygen vacancies in ZnO samples was highlighted by electron paramagnetic resonance *** green synthesized ZnO NPs have shown a good bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis,Listeria monocytogenes,Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial *** NPs synthesized using extracts of the selected plant species have been found to exhibit more enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant activities as compared to chemical ZnO NPs.

The aim of the research was to develop new products and processes from a manufacturing waste from an Italian metallurgic *** company produced thin silver metallic films and the production scraps were silver *** possibility to use the silver flakes in water disinfection processes was *** antimicrobial activity of the flakes was investigated in batch using Escherichia coli as Gram-negative microorganism *** flakes did not show any antimicrobial activity,so they were activated with two different processes： thermal activation in reducing atmosphere and chemical activation,obtaining,respectively,reduced flakes （RF） and chemical flakes （CF）.The flakes,activated with either treatment,showed antimicrobial activity against *** kill rate was dependent on the type of activated *** chemical flakes were more efficient than reduced *** kill rate determined for 1 g of CF,1.0 ± 0.2 min ？1 ,was greater than the kill rate determined for 1 g of RF,0.069 ± 0.004 min ？1 .This was confirmed also by the minimum inhibitory concentration *** was demonstrated that the antimicrobial capability was dependent on flakes amount and on the type of aqueous ***,the flakes maintained their properties also when used a second ***,the antimicrobial activities of flakes were tested in an effluent of a wastewater treatment plant where a variety of heterotrophic bacteria were present.

Aim： To investigate the influence of an extract obtained from five Chinese medicinal plants on sexual behavior of adult male rats. Methods： The extract was administered at doses of 30, 60 and 120 mg/kg by oral gavage, acutely （one time, 45 min before mating test） or subchronically （daily for 10 days） in sexually potent and sexually sluggish/impotent rats. Sexual behavior, serum levels of luteinizing hormone （LH） and testosterone （T） were evaluated in treated rats and compared with controls receiving vehicle. The effect of the extract on central dopaminergic neurotransmission was assessed in the nucleus accumbens using a microdialysis technique. Results： In sexually potent rats, both acute and subchronic treatment with the extract dosed at 30 and 60 mg/kg reduced mount latency and intromission latency. In sluggish/impotent rats, the acutely administered extract at the dose of 60 mg/kg shortened ejaculation latency, whereas subchronically administered at the doses of 30 and 60 mg/kg, reduced mount, intromission and ejaculation latencies, increasing also the percentage of mounting and ejaculating rats. The extract dosed at 60 mg/kg significantly increased LH and T following acute and subchronic administration and increased 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid levels in the nucleus accumbens, 30 min after the acute administration. Conclusion： The improvement in both appetitive and consummatory components of sexual behavior observed in male rats treated with the extract could be ascribed to increased serum T level in parallel with the activation of the central dopaminergic system.

Water is an increasingly scarce resource worldwide and irrigated agriculture remains one of the largest and most inefficient users of this resource. Low water use efficiency （WUE） together with an increased competition for water resources with other sectors （e.g. tourism or industry） are forcing growers to adopt new irrigation and cultivation practices that use water more judiciously. In areas with dry and hot climates, drip irrigation and protected cultivation have improved WUE mainly by reducing runoff and evapotranspiration losses. However, complementary approaches are still needed to increase WUE in irrigated agriculture. Deficit irrigation strategies like regulated deficit irrigation or partial root drying have emerged as potential ways to increase water savings in agriculture by allowing crops to withstand mild water stress with no or only marginal decreases of yield and quality. Grapevine and several fruit tree crops seem to be well adapted to deficit irrigation, but other crops like vegetables tend not to cope so well due to losses in yield and quality. This paper aims at providing an overview of the physiological basis of deficit irrigation strategies and their potential for horticulture by describing the major consequences of their use to vegetative growth, yield and quality of different crops （fruits, vegetables and ornamentals）.

We demonstrate the ability of statistical data assimilation(SDA)to identify the measurements required for accurate state and parameter estimation in an epidemiological model for the novel coronavirus disease *** context is an effort to inform policy regarding social behavior,to mitigate strain on hospital *** model unknowns are taken to be:the time-varying transmission rate,the fraction of exposed cases that require hospitalization,and the time-varying detection probabilities of new asymptomatic and symptomatic *** simulations,we obtain estimates of undetected(that is,unmeasured)infectious populations,by measuring the detected cases together with the recovered and dead-and without assumed knowledge of the detection *** a noiseless measurement of the recovered population,excellent estimates of all quantities are obtained using a temporal baseline of 101 days,with the exception of the time-varying transmission rate at times prior to the implementation of social *** low noise added to the recovered population,accurate state estimates require a lengthening of the temporal baseline of *** of all parameters are sensitive to the contamination,highlighting the need for accurate and uniform methods of *** aim of this paper is to exemplify the power of SDA to determine what properties of measurements will yield estimates of unknown parameters to a desired precision,in a model with the complexity required to capture important features of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A comprehensive picture of the initial stages of silicene growth on graphite is *** is shown that quasiparticle interferences play a crucial role in the formation of the observed silicene *** propose,on one hand,that the charge modulations caused by those quantum interferences serve as templates and guide the incoming Si atoms to self-assemble to the unique(√3 x√3)R30°honeycomb atomic *** the other hand,their limited extension limits the growth to about 150 Si atoms under our present deposition *** here proposed electrostatic interaction finally explains the unexpected stability of the observed silicene islands over time and with *** the robust guiding nature of those quantum interferences during the early growth phase,we demonstrate that the window of experimental conditions for silicene growth is quite narrow,making it an extremely challenging experimental ***,it is shown that the experimentally observed threedimensional silicon clusters might very well be the simple result of the end of the silicene growth resulting from the limited extent of the quasi-particle interferences.

Phenology allows organisms to overcome seasonally variable conditions through life-cycle adjustment. Changes in phenology can drastically modify the evolutionary tra- jectory of a population, while a shift in the reproductive time may cause allochronic differentiation. The hypothesis of heritable reproductive time was experimentally tested, by studying a unique population of the pine processionary moth Thaumetopoeapityocampa （Den. ＆ Schiff.） which has a shifted phenology, and however co-occurs with the typical population following the classical life cycle. When populations of both types were reared under controlled conditions, the reproductive time was maintained asynchronous, as ob- served in the field. The shifted population was manipulated in the laboratory to reproduce later than usual, yet the offspring emerged in the next year at the expected dates thus ＂com- ing back＂ to the usual cycle. Hybrids from crosses performed between the 2 populations showed an intermediate phenology. From the emergence times of parents and offspring, a high heritability of the reproductive time （h = 0.76） was observed. The offspring ob- tained from each type of cross was genetically characterized using microsatellite markers. Bayesian clustering analysis confirmed that hybrids can he successfully identified and separated from the parental genetic classes by genotyping. Findings support the hypothesis that, for this particular population, incipient allochronic speciation is due to a heritable shift in the reproductive time that further causes assortative mating and might eventually cause ecological adaptation/maladaptation in response to environmental changes.

INTRODUCTION:In the recent decades,a global effort from food suppliers,industries,and governments has ensured that food production would meet the high quality required by the sanitary authorities,minimizing public health implications and economic losses caused by food-borne ***:Several programmes and initiatives have been developed worldwide both by government agencies and the private sector to achieve this ***-borne diseases,caused by pathogens,natural toxins,and chemical contaminants,remain a global public health challenge,since new threats are continuously emerging while others are being ***,in many countries,the consumption of food prepared outside the home increases the exposure to the risks posed by poor hygiene in food *** this context,a reliable sanitary surveillance system is urgently needed to identify potential hazards,conduct risk analysis,and control food-borne diseases outbreaks *** SAFETY POLICIES AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS:Brazil national agencies are tasked with controlling the hazards in the food chain by means of federal regulations based on a set of global sanitary authorities’***:The occurrence of food-borne diseases,control measures,policies,and regulatory frameworks in Brazil drawn to ensure the quality and safety of food are presented in this paper.
