Optimization Studies of Porous Carbon Preparation from Oil Shale Using Response Surface Methodology and Its Application for Phenol Adsorption

This paper discusses the elaboration of adsorbents from oil *** experimental designs a response surface methodology(RSM),which has been applied to optimize the significant preparation factors,such as tempera-ture,time,and the activating agent *** results obtained from central composite design(CCD)revealed that the interaction between the factors was significant for the maximum quantity of adsorption(response).Planned results have shown that a maximum quantity of adsorption for methylene blue is 65 mg/g,which could be achieved with a temperature of 275℃over 2 h and a percentage of the activating agent of 45%.The predicted values agreed with the experimental finding,with a determination coefficient(R2)of *** model has been validated by experi-ments after conditions *** new material(RHO)was characterized by cation exchange capacity,zero charge pH,surface functions,X-ray fluorescence,specific surface area,and electron microscopy *** adsorption was determined using Langmuir,Freundlich and Temkin,which were used to describe the adsorption *** adsorption capacity of the material was about 263 mg/g,and the kinetic studies showed rapid adsorption.

This study focuses on investigating the effect of various solvents on the supercritical extraction of organic matter from Moroccan oil shales, with the goal of determining the optimal operating conditions that result in a high yield of high-quality oil rich in aromatic compounds. The results of this study demonstrate that the extraction yield and quality of the extracted oil heavily depend on the chosen operating conditions for supercritical or subcritical extraction of organic matter from oil shale. Additionally, the study found that phenol can effectively degrade oil shale and enable extraction of nearly all the organic matter, even under mild conditions (T = 390˚C, P = 1.2 MPa, Time = 2.5 h. Furthermore, the oils obtained through this extraction process are of high quality, with a rich content of maltenes, and a higher concentration of aromatic compounds and lower levels of sulfur than those obtained using other solvents.

Internet of Things(IoT)refers to the infrastructures that connect smart devices to the Internet,operating *** connectivitymakes it possible to harvest vast quantities of data,creating new opportunities for the emergence of unprecedented *** ensure IoT securit,various approaches have been implemented,such as authentication,encoding,as well as devices to guarantee data integrity and *** these approaches,Intrusion Detection Systems(IDS)is an actual security solution,whose performance can be enhanced by integrating various algorithms,including Machine Learning(ML)and Deep Learning(DL),enabling proactive and accurate detection of *** study proposes to optimize the performance of network IDS using an ensemble learning method based on a voting classification *** combining the strengths of three powerful algorithms,Random Forest(RF),K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN),and Support Vector Machine(SVM)to detect both normal behavior and different categories of *** analysis focuses primarily on the NSL-KDD dataset,while also integrating the recent Edge-IIoT dataset,tailored to industrial IoT *** results show significant enhancements on the Edge-IIoT and NSL-KDD datasets,reaching accuracy levels between 72%to 99%,with precision between 87%and 99%,while recall values and F1-scores are also between 72%and 99%,for both normal and attack *** the promising results of this study,it suffers from certain limitations,notably the use of specific datasets and the lack of evaluations in a variety of *** work could include applying this model to various datasets and evaluating more advanced ensemble strategies,with the aim of further enhancing the effectiveness of IDS.

Network and data location aware approach for simultaneous job scheduling and data replication in large-scale data grid environments

Data Grid integrates graphically distributed resources for solving data intensive scientific applications. Effective scheduling in Grid can reduce the amount of data transferred among nodes by submitting a job to a node, where most of the requested data files are available. Scheduling is a traditional problem in parallel and distributed system. However, due to special issues and goals of Grid, traditional approach is not effective in this environment any more. Therefore, it is necessary to propose methods specialized for this kind of parallel and distributed system. Another solution is to use a data replication strategy to create multiple copies of files and store them in convenient locations to shorten file access times. To utilize the above two concepts, in this paper we develop a job scheduling policy, called hierarchical job scheduling strategy （HJSS）, and a dynamic data replication strategy, called advanced dynamic hierarchical replication strategy （ADHRS）, to improve the data access efficiencies in a hierarchical Data Grid. HJSS uses hierarchical scheduling to reduce the search time for an appropriate computing node. It considers network characteristics, number of jobs waiting in queue, file locations, and disk read speed of storage drive at data sources. Moreover, due to the limited storage capacity, a good replica replacement algorithm is needed. We present a novel replacement strategy which deletes files in two steps when free space is not enough for the new replica： first, it deletes those files with minimum time for transferring. Second, if space is still insufficient then it considers the last time the replica was requested, number of access, size of replica and file transfer time. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm has better performance in comparison with other algorithms in terms of job execution time, number of intercommunications, number of replications, hit ratio, computing resource usage and storage usage.

Adaptive data replication strategy in cloud computing for performance improvement

Cloud computing is becoming a very popular word in industry and is receiving a large amount of atten- tion from the research community. Replica management is one of the most important issues in the cloud, which can offer fast data access time, high data availability and reliability. By keeping all replicas active, the replicas may enhance system task successful execution rate if the replicas and requests are reasonably distributed. However, appropriate replica place- ment in a large-scale, dynamically scalable and totally vir- tualized data centers is much more complicated. To provide cost-effective availability, minimize the response time of ap- plications and make load balancing for cloud storage, a new replica placement is proposed. The replica placement is based on five important parameters： mean service time, failure probability, load variance, latency and storage usage. How- ever, replication should be used wisely because the storage size of each site is limited. Thus, the site must keep only the important replicas. We also present a new replica replacement strategy based on the availability of the file, the last time the replica was requested, number of access, and size of replica. We evaluate our algorithm using the CloudSim simulator and find that it offers better performance in comparison with other algorithms in terms of mean response time, effective network usage, load balancing, replication frequency, and storage usage

The influence of inlet swirl intensity and hot-streak on aerodynamics and thermal characteristics of a high pressure turbine vane

In modern gas turbines,the High Pressure Turbine(HPT)is exposed to an extreme thermal environment due to the burned gases leaving the *** burned gases are characterized by flow and temperature distortions that effect the aerodynamics and heat transfer of the *** purpose of this paper is to investigate numerically the effect of the intensity of the swirling flow combined with the temperature non-uniformity‘‘Hot-Streak"(H-S)on the aerothermal performances of a HPT Nozzle Guide Vane(NGV).The investigations are conducted on the solid untwisted NGV annular cascade developed in NASA Lewis Research *** swirl intensities(|S_(n)|=0,0.1,0.25 and 0.5),two swirl orientations(positive and negative)and two hot-streaks(rounded and radial)at the NGV inlet are *** simulations are done by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)equations using ANSYS-CFX *** results show that the H-S with swirl undergoes twisting following the orientation of the *** H-S twist is aggressive under positive swirl compared to the negative swirl *** inlet swirl generates a new secondary flow structure,so called Swirl Vortex(SV),which induces more aerodynamic *** aerodynamic efficiency under negative swirl found to be higher than that under positive *** maximum temperature on the vane surface is controlled by the radial transport of the SV towards the endwalls.

Numerical Investigation of Effect of Porosity and Fuel Inlet Velocity on Diffusion Filtration Combustion

Methane-air diffusion filtration combustion in a radiative round-jet burner was numerically investigated in this *** purpose of this study was focused on the effects of porous media porosity and gas velocity on temperature distribution and CO and NO_(x)*** chemical kinetics was used where air and methane were assumed to be at their stoichiometric ratio,while thermo-physical properties were varied per the solid matrix porosity *** characteristics were evaluated based on conduction and radiation as the two primary heat transfer modes within the solid *** simulations were carried out based on a packed bed with 3 mm alumina *** show that combustion temperature increases while the temperature gradient decreases with the increase in porosity,yielding higher NO_(x),and lower CO ***,the combustion temperature is the lowest and most uniformly distributed with 1 m/s and 3 m/s gas velocities,wherewith 3 m/s gas velocity,combustion occurs outside of the porous *** corresponding NO_(x)and CO emissions are the lowest with 1 m/s gas velocity and increase with the increase in gas velocity from 1 m/s to 10m/s.
