BAcKGROUND For optimizing fecal immunochemical test(FIT)-based screening programs,reducing the rate of missed colorectal cancers(cRcs)by FIT(FIT-interval cRcs)is an important *** of the molecular make-up of these missed lesions could facilitate more accurate detection of all(precursor)*** To compare the molecular make-up of FIT-interval cRcs to lesions that are detected by FIT[screen-detected cRcs(SD-cRcs)].METHODS FIT-interval cRcs observed in a Dutch pilot-program of FIT-based screening were compared to a control group of SD-cRcs in a 1:2 ratio,resulting in 27 FIT-interval cRc and 54 *** analyses included microsatellite instability(MSI),cpG island methylator phenotype(cIMP),DNA sequence mutations and copy number alterations(cNAs).RESULTS Although no significant differences were reached,FIT-interval cRcs were more often cIMP positive and MSI positive(33%cIMP in FIT-interval cRcs vs 21%in SD-cRcs(P=0.274);19%MSI in FIT-interval cRcs vs 12%in SD-cRcs(P=0.469)),and showed more often serrated pathway associated features such as BRAF(30%vs 12%,P=0.090)and PTEN(15%vs 2.4%,P=0.063)*** mutations,a classic feature of the adenoma-carcinoma-sequence,were more abundant in SD-cRcs(68%vs 40%in FIT-interval cRcs P=0.035).Regarding cNAs differences between the two groups;FIT-interval cRcs less often showed gains at the regions 8p11.22-q24.3(P=0.009),and more often gains at 20p13-p12.1(P=0.039).cONcLUSION Serrated pathway associated molecular features seem to be more common in FIT-interval cRcs,while classic adenoma carcinoma pathway associated molecular features seem to be more common in *** indicates that proximal serrated lesions may be overrepresented among FITinterval cRcs.

Esophageal atresia(EA) is one of the most common congenital digestive malformations and requires surgical correction early in life. Dedicated centers have reported survival rates up to 95%. The most frequent comorbidities after EA repair are dysphagia(72%) and gastroesophageal reflux(GER)(67%). chronic GER after EA repair might lead to mucosal damage, esophageal stricturing, Barrett's esophagus and eventually esophageal adenocarcinoma. Several long-term follow-up studies found an increased risk of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal carcinoma in EA patients, both at a relatively young age. Given these findings, the recent ESPGHAN-NASPGHAN guideline recommends routine endoscopy in adults born with EA. we report a series of four EA patients who developed a carcinoma of the gastrointestinal tract: three esophageal carcinoma and one colorectal carcinoma in a colonic interposition. These cases emphasize the importance of lifelong screening of the upper gastrointestinal tract in EA patients.

Instrumented and Vickers Indentation for the characterization of Stiffness,Hardness and Toughness of Zirconia Toughened Al_2O_3 and Sic Armor

Instrumented and Vickers indentation testing and microstructure analysis were used to investigate zirconia toughened alumina （ZTA） and silicon carbide （SIc）. Several equations were studied to relate the Vickers indentation hardness, Young＇s modulus and crack behavior to the fracture toughness. The frac- ture in Sic is unstable and occurs primarily by cleavage leading to a relatively low toughness of 3 MPa m1/2, which may be inappropriate for multi-hit capability. ZTA absorbs energy by plastic deformation, pore collapse, crack deviation and crack bridging and exhibits time dependent creep. with a relatively high toughness around 6.6 MPa m1/2, ZTA is promising for multi-hit capability. The higher accuracy of median equations in calculating the indentation fracture toughness and the relatively high c/a ratios above 2.5 suggest median type cracking for both Sic and ZTA. The Young＇s modulus of both ceramics was most accurately measured at lower indentation loads of about 0.5 kgf, while more accurate hardness and fracture toughness values were obtained at intermediate and at higher indentation loads beyond 5 kgf, respectively. A strong indentation size effect （ISE） was observed in both materials. The load independent hardness of Sic is 2563 HV, putting it far above the standard armor hardness requirement of 1500 HV that is barely met by ZTA.

Low electronic conductivity and large volume changes during the(de)lithiation process are the two main challenges for ZnO anode materials used for lithium-ion batteries(LIB).Here,a free-standing,flexible,and binder-free LIB electrode composed of ZnO nanorods and carbon cloth(cc)is *** is then decorated with Ag nanoparticles and finally coated by an amorphous carbon layer to form the hybrid electrode:(c@(Ag&ZnO)).The voids among the nanorods are sufficient to accommodate the volume expansion of the ZnO while the flexible cc,which acts as the current collector,relieves the volume change-induced *** Ag nanoparticles are effective in improving the *** composite electrode shows excellent LIB performance with a stable long cycling life over 500 cycles with a reversible capacity of 1093 mAh g^(-1)at a current density of 200 mA g^(-1).It also shows good rate performance with reversible capacity of 517 mAh g^(-1)under a high-current density of 5000 mA g^(-1).In situ Raman spectroscopy is conducted to investigate the contributions of the amorphous carbon layer to the capacity of the whole electrode and the synergy between the cc and ZnO nanorods.

Post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) is a disabling, potentially chronic disorder that is characterized by re-experience and hyperarousal symptoms as well as the avoidance of trauma-related stimuli. The distress experienced by many veterans of the Vietnam war and their partners prompted a strong interest in developing conjoint interventions that could both alleviate the core symptoms of PTSD and strengthen family bonds. we review the evolution of and evidence base for conjoint PTSD treatments from the Vietnam era through the post-911 era. Our review is particularly focused on the use of treatment strategies that are designed to address the emotions that are generated by the core symptoms of the disorder to reduce their adverse impact on veterans, their partners and the relationship. we present a rationale and evidence to support the direct incorporation of emotion-regulation skills training into conjoint interventions for PTSD. we begin by reviewing emerging evidence suggesting that high levels of emotion dysregulation are characteristic of and predict the severity of both PTSD symptoms and the level of interpersonal/marital difficulties reported by veterans with PTSD and their family members. In doing so, we present a compelling rationale for the inclusion of formal skills training in emotional regulation in couple–/family-based PTSD treatments. we further argue that increased exposure to trauma-related memories and emotions in treatments based on learning theory requires veterans and their partners to learn to manage the uncomfortable emotions that they previously avoided. conjoint treatments that were developed in the last 30 years all acknowledge the importance of emotions in PTSD but vary widely in their relative emphasis on helping participants to acquire strategies to modulate them compared to other therapeutic tasks such as learning about the disorder or disclosing the trauma to a loved one. we conclude our review by describing two recent innovative treatmen

Understanding the immune responses elicited by SARS-coV-2 infection is critical in terms of protection against reinfection and,thus,for public health policy and vaccine development for *** this study,using either live SARS-coV-2 particles or retroviruses pseudotyped with the SARS-coV-2 S viral surface protein(Spike),we studied the neutralizing antibody(nAb)response in serum samples from a cohort of 140 SARS-coV-2 qPcR-confirmed infections,including patients with mild symptoms and also more severe forms,including those that required intensive *** show that nAb titers correlated strongly with disease severity and with anti-spike IgG ***,patients from intensive care units exhibited high nAb titers;conversely,patients with milder disease symptoms had heterogeneous nAb titers,and asymptomatic or exclusive outpatient-care patients had no or low *** found that nAb activity in SARS-coV-2-infected patients displayed a relatively rapid decline after recovery compared to individuals infected with other ***,we found an absence of cross-neutralization between endemic coronaviruses and SARS-coV-2,indicating that previous infection by human coronaviruses may not generate protective nAbs against ***,we found that the D614G mutation in the spike protein,which has recently been identified as the current major variant in Europe,does not allow neutralization ***,our results contribute to our understanding of the immune correlates of SARS-coV-2-induced disease,and rapid evaluation of the role of the humoral response in the pathogenesis of SARS-coV-2 is warranted.

The permeabilization of liposomes by melittin,an antimicrobial peptide(AMP),has been studied by an electrochemiluminescence(EcL)imaging *** methodology consisted ffrst of encapsulating EcL reagents in sealed giant asymmetrical liposomes(100μm in diameter)made of DOPG/DOPc phospholipids(i.e.,1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycerol-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)sodium salt/1,2-dioleolyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine).Then liposomes were placed on an indium tin oxide electrode coated with poly-L-lysine to avoid any membrane poration/permeabilization through polarization of the electrode ***,the addition of melittin(from 10μM to 100 nM in concentration)enabled the permeabilization of the lipid membrane followed by the liposome content release and subsequent light generation through the EcL reagents oxidation ***,at a melittin concentration of 10μM,two successive leakages occurring on the same liposome could be *** of EcL and photoluminescence imaging allowed comprehensive monitoring of the permeabilization and content release of a single *** EcL imaging approach opens interesting perspectives to characterize the instant release of vesicle content upon permeabilization by AMPs or other membrane-active species.

Diversity and Antimicrobial Activity of cultivable Halophilic Archaea from Three Algerian Sites

Hypersaline environments are colonized by communities of microorganisms, which developed adaptations from halotolerant to extreme halophilic lifestyles. Twenty-four halophilic archaeal strains were isolated from three Algerian hypersaline sites, including the solar salterns in Ichekaben and two natural salt lakes at Ouargla and Oran. Almost full-length 16S rRNA genes were amplified using archaeal-specific primers, sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed. Three isolates from the salt lake of Ouargla were affiliated to Halorubrum sp., while six isolates from Ichekaben were Natrinema sp.. The remaining strains belonged to the genus Haloarcula, which was identified in the three Algerian sites. A phylogenetic tree of Haloarcula sp. including the two copies of the 16S rRNA gene, showed that two strains group with Haloarcula hispanica, while the other 13 cluster with OHF-1/OHF-2 isolated from French commercial salt. Both Natrinema sp. and Haloarcula sp. were persistent at Ichekaben. For the six Natrinema sp. isolates, this observation correlates with their capacity to produce antimicrobial compounds, and a DNA fragment closely related to the halocin c8 gene was amplified for five strains.

Households are the sources contributing the most to the production of urban solid wastes in developing countries. The present study analyses the generation of domestic solid wastes in a settlement in Mexico in two different years. The goals were to compare composition and rates of generation into the periods to assess changes and the influence of socioeconomic variables. In 1998 and 2004, wastes from households were sampled of three socioeconomic levels randomly selected, and a survey was applied. Data obtained were analyzed with descriptive and multivariate analysis. Results of generation rate and composition of domestic solid wastes showed a negative correlation between generation and income in the first one, but positive in the second one;in both, composition did not show correlation. Rates of per capita generation, per household, population and density of inhabitants per dwelling increased, and the generation of wastes were more with respect to population growth, which emphasizes the influence of economic and demographic variables. This study corroborates that households are the principal sources of urban solid wastes and it is emphasized that management strategies must preponderate households to be successful. In addition, this information is important to establish strategies for an integral management of urban solid wastes in developing countries.
