Nephroprotective effect of Murraya koenigii on Cyclophosphamide induced nephrotoxicity in rats

Objective: To evaluate the nephroprotective effect of defatted mehtanolic extract and aqueous extract of Murraya koenigii against Cyclophosphamide drug. Methods: Nephrotoxicity was induced by Cyclophosphamide in 7 d at 150 mg/kg body weight through intraperitoneal route in rat model. Nephroprotective activity of Murraya koenigii(M. koenigii) extract(100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg in intraperitoneal route) was measured, including nephrological source, oxidative stress parameters like superoxide dismutase, glutathione, the lipid peroxide and in vivo assay like blood urea nitrogen, creatinine were determined and analyzed by One way analysis of variance followed by Tukey's test. Results: The study result showed that important phytochemicals such as carbohydrates, flavonoids, tannin, alkaloids, glycosides, protein and steroids were found to be present in the extract of M. koenigii. The renal function markers like blood urea nitrogen and ceatinine level were found to be decreased significantly by M. koenigii extract treatment. A significant difference was found to be at P<0.01. Conclusions: The present study reveals the protective role of M. koenigii extract against Cyclophosphamide induced nephrotoxicity.

We read the study reported by Lohman et *** interest published recently in the Annals of Surgery(1).The authors have developed a statistical model to predict the overall survival(OS)of patients with resected gall bladder cancer(GBC).Dutch national database was used to create and internally validate the model based on individual-level data(n=380).Subsequently,data from a cohort of Australian patients with resected GBC were used for external validation(n=66).The model was constructed based on the patient and tumor characteristics found to be independent predictors of OS that included age,tumor and node(T/N)classification,resection margin,tumor differentiation grade,and vascular *** concordance index(C-index)in the internal and the external validation cohorts were 0.71[95%confidence interval(CI):0.69-0.72]and 0.75(95%CI:0.69-0.80),respectively,suggesting good discriminatory *** authors also demonstrated that their model outperformed the discriminative capability of the American Joint Committee on Cancer(AJCC)staging system(8th edition)with a C-index of 0.59(95%CI:0.57-0.60).Furthermore,the authors constructed a web application that can predict the OS of a given patient based on a small number of clinicopathologic variables(age,T stage,N stage,resection margin,differentiation grade,and perivascular invasion).

The present report describes the development of quantitative and qualitative foliar micromorphological and architectural features in the field environment which elucidated the adaptation of micropropagated plants of Passiflora foetida L. in the natural soil conditions. The field environment(high light intensity in comparison to in vitro culture conditions) promotes the autotrophy through decrease in stomatal index(from 23.2 ± 0.15 to 21.0 ± 0.19), increased vein-islets(from 10.0 ± 0.14 to 15.6 ± 0.24 per square millimeters) and veinlet terminations(from 1.6 ± 0.14 to 5.0 ± 0.20 per square millimeters), and trichome density in P. foetida plantlets. The in vitro and field grown leaves mostly possessed anomocytic and anisocytic types of stomata. Two types of trichomes were observed on the surface of leaves of in vitro as well as field transferred plants of P. foetida: the unicellular hairy trichomes(non-glandular), and the multicellular(glandular) trichomes. The trichomes density was less under in vitro conditions as compared to the in vivo environments. The new leaves formed during the ex vitro rooting stage(in greenhouse) and after transplantation of plantlets to the field exhibited the development of adaptive micromorphological features in micropropagated plants, which enabled them to survive under field conditions.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer death in the United States. Surgery remains the only curative option; however only 20% of the patients have resectable disease at the time of initialpresentation. The definition of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer is not uniform but generally denotes to regional vessel involvement that makes it unlikely to have negative surgical margins. The accurate staging of pancreatic cancer requires triple phase computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging of the pancreas. Management of patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer remains unclear. The data for treatment of these patients is primarily derived from retrospective single institution experience. The prospective trials have been plagued by small numbers and poor accrual. Neoadjuvant therapy is recommended and typically consists of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The chemotherapeutic regimens continue to evolve along with type and dose of radiation therapy. Gemcitabine or 5-fluorouracil based chemotherapeutic combinations are administered. The type and dose of radiation vary among different institutions. With neoadjuvant treatment, approximately 50% of the patients are able to undergo surgical resections with negative margins obtained in greater than 80% of the patients. Newer trials are attempting to standardize the definition of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer and treatment regimens. In this review, we outline the definition, imaging requirements and management of patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

Colon cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity throughout the world despite the availability of reliable screening tools and effective *** majority of patients with colon cancer are diagnosed at an early stage(stages I to III),which provides an opportunity for *** current treatment paradigm of early stage colon cancer consists of surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy in a select group of patients,which is directed at the eradication of minimal residual disease to achieve a *** alone is curative for the vast majority of colon cancer ***,surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy can achieve long term survival in about two-thirds of colon cancer patients with nodal *** chemotherapy is recommended for all patients with stage III colon cancer,while the benefit in stage II patients is not unequivocally established despite several large clinical *** research in early stage colon cancer is focused on minimally invasive surgical techniques,strategies to limit treatment-related toxicities,precise patient selection for adjuvant therapy,utilization of molecular and clinicopathologic information to personalize therapy and exploration of new therapies exploiting the evolving knowledge of tumor *** this review,we will discuss the current standard treatment,evolving treatment paradigms,and the emerging biomarkers,that will likely help improve patient selection and personalization of therapy leading to superior outcomes.

We investigated the aerobic oxidation of ethylbenzene in the absence of solvent or any additive carried out over Ni on different types of supports namely SiO2, hydroxyapatite, SBA-15, and USY Zeolites. The oxidation of ethylbenzene activities was measured in a round bottom flask immersed in oil bath at known reaction temperature. The physicochemical characteristics of the catalysts were examined by BET surface area, XRD, FT-IR and the oxidation activities were correlated with the acidities of the catalysts obtained by TPD of NH3. It was observed that both hydroxyapatite and USY （13% Na2O） supported Ni catalysts displayed higher ethylbenzene conversion and 80% selectivity towards acetophenone.

Background:Techniques for identifying facial features and proving the individuality of a person’s facial features are used in forensic *** and Objectives:Acommon method in this area is cranial anthropometry,which has uses in facial reconstruction,locating unidentified remains,and identifying criminal *** and Methods:A study analyzed 200 standard full-face photographs of 50 males and 50 females to compare frontal and lateral facial images and identify male and female facial *** located landmarks and measured the distances between *** data were analyzed using statistical tests like t-tests and analysis of variance(ANOVA)***:The results showed that in 100%of the suggested measurements for both males and females,there were no statistically significant differences(P>0.05)between frontal and lateral *** ANOVA test,however,showed that all suggested measurements showed differences in the lateral aspect,while only 76.92%of them showed differences between the male and female groups in the frontal ***:In conclusion,statistically significant differences were found,rejecting the null hypothesis of equal means,when the level of significance(α)was lower than the P value(0.05).On the other hand,the null hypothesis was accepted when statistically insignificant differences were found and the level of significance was higher than the P *** there were differences between males and females in different views,the distances between landmarks in frontal and lateral views of the same person were generally *** taken in the lateral aspect were more accurate and displayed greater sexual dimorphism variation compared to those taken in the frontal aspect.

Assessment of interobserver variation in Garden classification and management of fresh intracapsular femoral neck fracture in adults

Objective： To assess the interobserver agreement on Garden classification of fresh femoral neck fracture and management plan based on anteroposterior （AP） view and also assess if the addition of lateral view changes the classification and management plan. Methods： Ten orthopaedic surgeons were asked to classify 35 femoral neck fractures on AP view only and propose the management plan. Then the same films were reshown in conjunction with their lateral view after 10 days. Results were compared with respect to the classification and management plan between two groups. Interobserver agreement was calculated using Fleiss＇ kappa. Results： There was only a fair interobserver agreement （kappa value 0.39） on Garden classification on AP view only which improved to moderate agreement （kappa value 0.52） after adding a lateral view. While there was only a slight improvement in the interobserver agreement on the management plan on AP view only （kappa value 0.50） and AP combined with lateral views （kappa value 0.52）. Supplementation of the lateral view changed the classification in 15.42% of the cases and altered the management plan in 23.14% of the cases. Conclusion： We conclude that lateral view should be obtained routinely on all patients with suspected femoral neck fracture as it definitely has a role in planning treatment of femoral neck fracture.
