Electroacupuncture with different waveforms for primary dysmenorrhea: A randomized controlled trial

Objective: To observe and compare the clinical effects of different electroacupuncture waveforms on primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, three-group, parallel-controlled trial. Participants with primary dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into dense-sparse wave, continuous wave, and discontinuous wave groups in a 1:1:1 ratio. Two lateral Ciliao (BL 32) points were used. All three groups started treatment 3–5 days before menstruation, once a day for six.sessions per course of treatment, one course of treatment per menstrual cycle, and three menstrual cycles. The primary outcome measure was the proportion with an average visual analog scale (VAS) score reduction of ≥50% from baseline for dysmenorrhea in the third menstrual cycle during treatment. The secondary outcome measures included changes in dysmenorrhea VAS scores, Cox.Menstrual Symptom Scale scores and the proportion of patients taking analgesic drugs. Results: The proportion of cases where the average VAS score for dysmenorrhea decreased by ≥50% from baseline in the third menstrual cycle was not statistically significant (P > .05). Precisely 30 min after acupuncture and regarding immediate analgesia on the most severe day of dysmenorrhea, there was a statistically significant difference in the dense-sparse wave group compared with the other two groups during the third menstrual cycle (P mary dysmenorrhea and its related symptoms in patients. The three groups showed similar results in terms of short- and long-term analgesic efficacy and a reduction in the number of patients taking analgesic drugs. Regarding achieving immediate analgesia, the dense-sparse wave group was slightly better than the other two groups. © 2024 Beijing University of Chinese Medicine

TWO METHODS FOR ASSESSMENT OF RESIDUAL LIFE OF HK-40 FURNACE TUBES

Two methods for predicting residual life of high temperature furnace tubes are studied. One is testanalysis method that is mainly based on the creep rupture tests on postservice specimens. Specimens were taken from the tubes, which had been in service for different times. KachanovRobinsons damage summation concept is employed, however with a modified factor K(ts) to account for prior damage in the specimens. If the foregone total life corresponds with real condition, all of the test data modified by K(ts) should be distributed uniformly nearby the master curve of the new material. The other iscomputer simulation method that considers all of the operating conditions that influence the life. The finite element method (FEM) with iterative calculation is used in the analysis. The variation rates of critical damage element along the wall thickness are determined as a function of the service temperature and current damage. A special program designed based on the method predicts well the residual life of furnace tubes, so long as the max.mum depth of critical damage in radius direction of tubes has been detected by ultrasonic techniques.

SECOND ORDER TRANSIENT WAVES AROUND A VERTICAL CYLINDER IN A TANK

The free surface problem bound by two cylinders is analysed based on the velocity potential theory. An analytical solution in the take domain is obtained up to the second order in the perturbation ex.ansion. The results are compared with those obtainal from the fully nonlinear theory based on a finite element *** is found that the second order solutiongives a fsr better agreement with the fully nonlinear solution.

The present status of studies on regeneration of tomato in vitro was introduced, and the key factors that influence the shoot regeneration system in tomato were summarized, such as genotypes, ex.lants type, ex.lant physiological status, plant hormones and additives. The paper also discussed issues ex.sting in tomato tissue culture and prospected the future development of this system.

＜正＞In a collisionless plasma, it is believed that waves play an important role in the heating processes of bowshock. In this paper, full-particle electromagnetic simulations are performed to investigate the ex.itation processes of Electrostatic waves in quasi-parallel shocks. The characteristic waves are ion acoustic, ion beam-mode, and upper-hybrid waves. It is found that the ion beam-mode waves evolve into electrostatic solitary waves （ESW） for an appropriate ion beam velocity. The electron dynamics and associated electrostatic waves are very important to understanding the spatial structure and temporal structure of shocks. The simulation results are compared with theoretical results and satellite observations.

NSUN2 mediates distinct pathways to regulate enterovirus 71 replication

Increasing evidences suggest that the methyltransferase NSUN2 catalyzes 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modifications on viral RNAs, which are essential for the replication of various viruses. Despite the function of m5C deposition is well characterized, other potential roles of NSUN2 in regulating viral replication remain largely unknown. In this study, the m5C modified residues catalyzed by NSUN2 on enterovirus 71 (EV71) RNAs were mapped. NSUN2, along with m5C modifications, played multiple roles during the EV71 life cycle. Functional m5C modified nucleotides increased the translational efficiency and stability of EV71 RNAs. Additionally, NSUN2 was found to target the viral protein VP1 for binding and promote its stability by inhibiting the ubiquitination. Furthermore, both viral replication and pathogenicity in mice were largely attenuated when functional m5C residues were mutated. Taken together, this study characterizes distinct pathways mediated by NSUN2 in regulating EV71 replication, and highlights the importance of its catalyzed m5C modifications on EV71 RNAs for the viral replication and pathogenicity. © 2024 The Authors

In situ TEM investigation of electron irradiation and aging-induced high-density nanoprecipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr alloy

In-situ electron irradiation and aging are applied to introduce high-density precipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr(GWZ1031K,wt.%)alloy to improve the *** results show that the hardness of the Mg alloy after irradiation for 10 h and aging for 9 h at 250℃ is 1.64 GPa,which is approx.mately 64% higher than that of the samples before being *** is mainly attributed to γ'precipitates on the basal plane after irradiation and the high-density nanoscale β'precipitates on the prismatic plane after aging,which should be closely related to the irradiation-induced homogenous *** latter plays a key role in precipitation *** result paves a way to improve the mechanical properties of metallic materials by tailoring the precipitation through irradiation and aging.

Lattice QCD calculations have predicted a transition from quark-gluon plasma (QGP) to hadronic matter at a high temperature or density. The recent results form the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) have demonstrated that a hot dense new matter with strong collective motion which can not be described with hadronic degrees of freedom was created at RHIC.

＜正＞A simple, rapid and inex.ensive ex.raction and analysis procedure of three phthalate esters （dimethy-, diethyl- and di-n-butyl phthalate esters） in water samples was presented using single-drop solvent ex.raction （SDSE） and gas chromatography combined flame ionization detector （GC-FID）. Ex.raction of phthalates was achieved by suspending 2 μL of toluene drop to the needle tip of a microsyringe in a stirred aqueous solution. The toluene drop was withdrawn into the microsyringe and injected directly into the gas chromatography. Parameters such as ex.raction solvent, organic drop volume, salt concentration, and sampling time were optimized. Calibration curves of three phthalate yielded good linearity （r2≥0.99367）. The limits of detection （LODs） of dimethy-, diethyl- and di-n-butyl phthalate esters were 2.01,0.96 and 0.84 μg L-1, respectively. Relative standard deviations （RSD%） in Milli-Q water ranged from 1.01 to 2.35%. Spiked recoveries of tap water and river water agreed well with the known values between 91.75 and 107.58%, demonstrating that SDSE was a useful and reliable technique for the rapid screening of phthalates in water samples. The applicability of this method was developed in analysis of the tap water in a special plastic container heated in a microwave oven.

Photonics integration of an optoelectronic oscillator(OEO)on a chip is attractive for fabricating low cost,compact,low power consumption,and highly reliable microwave sources,which has been demonstrated recently in silicon on insulator(SOI)and indium phosphide(InP)platforms at x.band around 8 *** we demonstrate the first integration of OEOs on the thin film lithium niobate(TFLN)platform,which has the advantages of lower Vπ,no chirp,wider frequency range,and less sensitivity to *** have successfully realized two different OEOs operating at Ka-band,with phase noises even lower than those of the x.band OEOs on SOI and InP *** is a fix.d frequency OEO at 30 GHz realized by integrating a mach–Zehnder modulator(MZM)with an add-drop microring resonator(MRR),and the other is a tunable frequency OEO at 20–35 GHz realized by integrating a phase modulator(PM)with a notch *** work marks the first step of using TFLN to fabricate integrated OEOs with high frequency,small size,low cost,wide range tunability,and potentially low phase noise.
