Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of mL/min/1.73 m2).The RE+BFR session consisted of 50% arterial occlusion pressure during 50 min sessions of HD(intradialytic exercise).RE repetitions included concentric and eccentric lifting phases(each lasting 2 s) and were supervised by a strength and conditioning ***:Several variables were associated with elevated levels of D-dimer,including higher blood glucose,citrate use,recent cardiovascular events,recent intercurrents,higher inflammatory status,catheter as vascular access,older patients(>70 years old),and HD ***,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during RE+BFR.

AIm： To measure circulating angiotensins at different stages of human cirrhosis and to further evaluate a possible relationship between renin angiotensin system （RAS） components and hemodynamic changes. mETHoDS： Patients were allocated into 4 groups： mild-to-moderate liver disease （mLD）, advanced liver disease （ALD）, patients undergoing liver transplantation, and healthy controls. Blood was collected to determine plasma renin activity （PRA）, angiotensin （Ang） Ⅰ, Ang Ⅱ, and Ang-（1-7） levels using radioimmunoassays. During liver transplantation, hemodynamic parameters were determined and blood was simultaneously obtained from the portal vein and radial artery in order to measure RAS components. RESULTS： PRA and angiotensins were elevated in ALD when compared to mLD and controls （P 〈 0.05）. In contrast, Ang Ⅱ was significantly reduced in mLD. Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were increased in mLD when compared to controls and ALD. During transplantation, Ang Ⅱ levels were lower and Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were higher in the splanchnic circulation than in the peripheral circulation （0.52 ± 0.08 vs 0.38 ±0.04, P 〈 0.02）, whereas the peripheral circulating Ang Ⅱ/Ang Ⅰ ratio was elevated in comparison to splanchnic levels （0.18 ±0.02 vs 0.13 ±0.02, P 〈 0.04）. Ang-（1-7）/ Ang Ⅱ ratios positively correlated with cardiac output （r = 0.66） and negatively correlated with systemic vascular resistance （r = -0.70）. CoNCLUSIoN： our findings suggest that the relationship between Ang-（1-7） and Ang Ⅱ may play a role in the hemodynamic changes of human cirrhosis.

AIm:To evaluate the effect of β-blockade on angiotensins in the splanchnic and peripheral circulation of cirrhotic patients and also to compare hemodynamic parameters during liver transplantation according to propranolol pre-treatment or not. mETHoDS:Patients were allocated into two groups:outpatients with advanced liver disease(LD) and during liver transplantation(LT). Both groups were subdivided according to treatment with propranolol or not. Plasma was collected through peripheral venipuncture to determine plasma renin activity(PRA),Angiotensin(Ang) Ⅰ,Ang Ⅱ,and Ang-(1-7) levels by radioimmunoassay in LD group. During liver transplantation,hemodynamic parameters were determined and blood samples were obtained from the portal vein to measure renin angiotensin system(RAS) ***:PRA,Ang Ⅰ,Ang Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) were signifi cantly lower in the portal vein and periphery in all subgroups treated with propranolol as compared to non-treated. The relationships between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅰ levels and between Ang Ⅱ and Ang Ⅰ were significantly increased in LD group receiving propranolol. The ratio between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅱ remained unchanged in splanchnic and peripheral circulation in patients under β-blockade,whereas the relationship between Ang Ⅱ and Ang Ⅰ was significantly increased in splanchnic circulation of LT patients treated with propranolol. During liver transplantation,cardiac output and index as well systemic vascular resistance and index were reduced in propranolol-treated subgroup. CoNCLUSIoN:In LD group,propranolol treatment reduced RAS mediators,but did not change the ratio between Ang-(1-7) and Ang Ⅱ in splanchnic and peripheral circulation. Furthermore,the modification of hemodynamic parameters in propranolol treated patients was not associated with changes in the angiotensin ratio.

Background:In Cerrado humid areas,veredas are considered as hygrophilous communities,marked by the presence of the mauritia flexuosa palm tree emerging in the wetter *** in veredas ecosystems due to drought and changes in the water table,which represent important areas for biodiversity maintenance in the Brazilian cerrado,can lead to the emergence of new landscapes and *** that the veredas are changed in species composition due to anthropogenic factors,in this study,we evaluated the flora composition and described the current vegetation profile of two veredas under different disturbances levels that are located in the north of minas Gerais State,***:Altogether,2,268 individuals of 91 species belonging to 36 families were *** results demonstrated that the studied veredas were floristically different in terms of the arboreous-shrubby species composition,richness,and *** the hygrophilous forest formations and open areas in the two veredas present typical species from these environments(same species with high importance values),the drought in the water table caused an expansion of Cerrado species in the open areas and in the hygrophilous ***,in the hygrophilous forest there was an increase in the abundance of species that occur in less saturated ***:our results demonstrate that the studied veredas are changing in species composition due to anthropogenic factors which leads to the drought of these formations(water balance effect).These anthropogenic effects cause a modification with the expansion and increase in the abundance of typical species of other areas of Cerrado and resistant to less saturated soils,leading to the veredas ***,future studies should investigate other veredas on a broader scale to detect changes in the water table that lead to a consequent change in vegetation *** this way,we will have support for the conscientious management and conservatio

This study analyzed the relationship between self-care in subjects who received a blood transfusion in a university hospital with their sociodemographic and health conditions. A descriptive and exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out in the Transfusion Ambulatory sector of the University Hospital in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro from July to November of 2014 with a sample size of 12 patients. Data were collected through a questionnaire of semi-structured questions;content analysis was based on the thematic approach. Sociodemographic data from subjects who received a blood transfusion were evaluated with respect to the education they received regarding self-care at home as well as their emotional balance in facing the health-disease process and their perspective on their quality of life. Educating subjects who receive blood transfusions requires that the medical professionals have an understanding of their patient’s socioeconomic and cultural condition. This information will contribute to a better understanding of self-care when blood transfusion is necessary.

Functional abdominal pain disorders(FAPDs) are an important and prevalent cause of functional gastrointestinal disorders among children, encompassing the diagnoses of functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal migraine, and the one not previously present in Rome Ⅲ, functional abdominal pain not otherwise specified. In the absence of sufficiently effective and safe pharmacological treatments for this public problem, non-pharmacological therapies emerge as a viable means of treating these patients, avoiding not only possible side effects, but also unnecessary prescription, since many of the pharmacological treatments prescribed do not have good efficacy when compared to placebo. Thus, the present study provides a review of current and relevant evidence on non-pharmacological management of FAPDs, covering the most commonly indicated treatments, from cognitive behavioral therapy to meditation, acupuncture, yoga, massage, spinal manipulation, moxibustion, and physical activities. In addition, this article also analyzes the quality of publications in the area, assessing whether it is possible to state if non-pharmacological therapies are viable, safe, and sufficiently well-based for an appropriate and effective prescription of these treatments. Finally, it is possible to observe an increase not only in the number of publications on the non-pharmacological treatments for FAPDs in recent years, but also an increase in the quality of these publications. Finally, the sample selection of satisfactory age groups in these studies enables the formulation of specific guidelines for this age group, thus avoiding the need for adaptation of prescriptions initially made for adults, but for children use.

Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is an infectious agent that occurs in small ruminants causing caseous lymphadenitis, and more rarely in humans causing lymphadenitis and pneumonia. The breeding small ruminants have great economic importance in Brazil. Rural farm workers and veterinary students who acquired this disease suffered from weakening symptoms for weeks, and the identification of the etiological agent was time-consuming and complex. Due to the low prevalence of case records, there is probably no available commercial diagnostic kit for C. pseudotuberculosis infection in humans. This study aimed to describe human seroreactivity to secreted antigens from C. pseudotuberculosis. Reactivity of serum from farm workers (n = 14), individuals who work with the bacillus at laboratory (n = 8) or individuals without contact (n = 25) was tested with secreted proteins from PAT10 strain of C. pseudotuberculosis by Western blotting. Samples of all (100%) farm workers showed reactivity to 31 kDa, 71 kDa and 164 kDa proteins, while laboratory workers showed 87.5%, 62.5 % and 37.5%, and no-contact 20%, 0% and 16%, respectively. All sera recognized the 275 kDa protein. our data suggest that C. pseudotuberculosis secreted proteins are antigenic in humans and the recognition profiles allowed the identification of individuals with and without prior contact with this bacillus. This is the first paper which describes human reactivity to C. pseudotuberculosis in serum samples of workers in Brazil.
