Stem cell applications for pathologies of the urinary bladder

new stem cell based therapies are undergoing intense research and are widely investigated in clinical fields including the urinary system. The urinary bladder performs critical complex functions that rely on its highly coordinated anatomical composition and multiplex of regulatory mechanisms. Bladder pathologies resulting in severe dysfunction are common clinical encounter and often cause significant impairment of patient's quality of life. Current surgical and medical interventions to correct urinary dysfunction or to replace an absent or defective bladder are sub-optimal and are associated with notable complications. As a result, stem cell based therapies for the urinary bladder are hoped to offer new venues that could make up for limitations of existing therapies. In this article, we review research efforts that describe the use of different types of stem cells in bladder reconstruction, urinary incontinence and retention disorders. In particular, stress urinary incontinence has been a popular target for stem cell based therapies in reported clinical trials. Furthermore, we discuss the relevance of the cancer stem cell hypothesis to the development of bladder cancer. A key subject that should not be overlooked is the safety and quality of stem cell based therapies introduced to human subjects either in a research or a clinical context.

A translucent wooden substrate with long-lasting phosphorescence,high photostability and durability,tough surface,ultraviolet protection,high optical transmittance,and superhydrophobicity was *** long-lasting phosphorescent wooden substrate is able to continue emitting light for extended time ***-modified wood(lmW)was immobilized with a solution of epoxy resin(ER)and rare-earth doped aluminate(REDA)phosphor nanoparticles(nPs).For an improved dispersion of pigment,REDA was synthesized in a nanoscale particle size,and characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEm)to indicate a particle size of 8-14 *** crystal structure of REDA nanoparticles was also proved by X-ray diffraction(XRD).For an improved production of long-persistent phosphorescent colo rless woods,REDA must be well-dispersed in mAA without *** and emissio n,as well as decay and lifetime spectra were *** morphologies of the wooden substrates with different ratios of REDA were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEm),X-ray fluorescence(XRF)analysis,Fourier transform infrared spectra(FT-IR),elemental mapping,and energy-dispersion Xray(EDXA).The phosphorescent woods show changes in color from colorless to green under ultraviolet(UV)irradiation,and to yellowish-green in the dark,as proved by the colorimetric parameters of the CIE lab *** afterglow wood samples display an absorbance band at 365 nm and two phosphorescent bands at 431 and 520 *** UV shielding,photostability,and hydrophobicity were *** increasing REDA ratio,both static contact and slide angles are found to improve in the ranges of147.6°-163.6°and 9°-14°,*** long-lasting photoluminescence is optimized at a REDA ratio of 8%.The present strategy shows a large-scale production approach of multiple functional woods for many potential applications,such as smart glow in the dark windows and safety signs.

microstructure and mechanical Properties of nano-crystalline Al-8 wt pct ni Alloy

microstructure and mechanical properties of ball-milled Al-8 wt pct ni ribbon have been investigated by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and continuous Vickers hardness test, respectively. The results indicate that, the main phases of this alloy are α-Al and orthorhombic-Al3ni. The lattice parameter of α-Al increases with increasing milling time. From the elastic constant of Al, the average contrast factors of the （111）, （200）, （220）, （311） and （222） Bragg＇s reflections for pure edge and pure screw dislocations in fcc crystals with α/2〈110〉{111} slip system were calculated. The average grain size and dislocation parameters as a function Of milling time have been investigated using the modified Williamson-Hall plot and the Warren-Averbach equation, *** attempt has been made to correlate the micro-hardness of milled ribbon with their grain size through the Hall-Patch relationship：HV0.01 = 742.45 〈 D 〉^-1/2 ＋401.55 （kg/mm^2）.

Acid-treated carbon nanotubes and their effects on mortar strength

In the present study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes （mWCnTs） were treated in an acidic mixture solution, made with nitric and sulfuric acids in a ratio of 3：1 by volume. The durations of the treatment were 100 and 180 min. The defects of these treated mWCnTs were examined using Raman spectroscopy. The attachment of hydroxyl functional groups to the walls of the mWCnTs were verified using FTIR spectroscopy. The dispersion of CnTs with acid treatment is assessed using UV-Vis spectroscopy and Scanning Electron microscopy （SEm）. The results indicate that the duration of the acid treatment has significant effect on both the degree of defects and functionality of the mWCnT. The compressive strength of mortar increased with the addition of the acid-treated mWCnTs; however, no appreciable difference was noted for the two treatment durations under this study.

micro-phytoplankton distribution and biomass in and around a channel-based fish farm: implications for sustainable aquaculture

micro-phytoplankton density, genera composition, chlorophyllaconcentration, and physico-chemical pa-rameters were investigated at five stations （S1-near the coast; S2 and S4-at the edges of the aquaculture set-up; S3-in the center of the set-up; and S5-nearby patch of corals） in and around a coastal channel-based fish farm. The highest total micro-phytoplankton density （TPD）, including diatoms, dinoflagellates and cyanobacteria, was recorded at S3 （（6.28±2.00）×10^6 cells/l） followed by S4 （（5.87±2.81）×10^5 cells/l）, S1 （（4.92×10^5±8.70×10^4） cells/l）, S5 （（3.54×10^5±5.33×10^4） cells/l） and S2 （（2.60±1.14）×10^5cells/l）. Chlorophyll a and nutrient concentrations were highest at S3 and were positively correlated with TPD. Among the 35 genera documented in this study,Chaetoceros spp. was the dominant diatom whilePeridinium spp. was the most dominant dinoflagellate. Very low densities of toxic bloom-forming dinoflagellates were encountered during this study. These results suggest that occurrence of non-bloom densities of micro-phytoplankton, possibly due to the natural flushing of the existing lagoonal channel at the aquaculture site, yielded in little environmental impact and can represent an appropriate sustainable approach for future aquaculture de-velopment.

Using passive cooling strategies to improve thermal performance and reduce energy consumption of residential buildings in U.A.E. buildings

Passive design responds to local climate and site conditions in order to maximise the comfort and health of building users while minimising energy use. The key to designing a passive building is to take best advantage of the local climate. Passive cooling refers to any technologies or design features adopted to reduce the temperature of buildings without the need for power consumption. Consequently, the aim of this study is to test the usefulness of applying selected passive cooling strategies to improve thermal performance and to reduce energy consumption of residential buildings in hot arid climate settings, namely Dubai, United Arab Emirates. One case building was selected and eight passive cooling strategies were applied. Energy simulation software namely IES was used to assess the performance of the building. Solar shading performance was also assessed using Sun Cast Analysis, as a part of the IES software. Energy reduction was achieved due to both the harnessing of natural ventilation and the minimising of heat gain in line with applying good shading devices alongside the use of double glazing. Additionally, green roofing proved its potential by acting as an effective roof insulation. The study revealed several significant findings including that the total annual energy consumption of a residential building in Dubai may be reduced by up to 23.6% when a building uses passive cooling strategies.

Superconducting parameter determination for (Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4)x/Cu0.5Tl0.5-1223 composite

The addition of magnetic Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles to the superconducting Cu0.5Tl0.5-1223 phase has been used to investigate the electrical resistivity behavior of the composite above the superconducting transition temperature Tc. This was studied according to the opening of spin gap and fluctuation conductivity. The results indicated that the pseudogap temperature (T*) and superconducting fluctuation temperature (Tscf) change by increasing the addition of Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles. It was found that T* is related to hole carrier concentration P and it also depends on the antiferromagnetic fluctuation affected by magnetic nanoparticles. The excess-conductivity analysis showed four different fluctuation regions started from high temperature up to Tc, and they were denoted by short wave (sw), two-dimensional (2D), three-dimensional (3D), and critical (cr) fluctuations. The crossover temperature between 3D and 2D (T3D-2D) in the mean field region was decreased by increasing the addition of Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles, in accordance with the decrease in Tscf with x. The coherence length at 0 K along c-axis ξc(0), effective layer thickness of the 2D system d, and inter-layer coupling strength J were estimated as a function of Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle addition. moreover, the thermodynamics, lower and upper critical magnetic fields, as well as critical current density have been calculated from the Ginzburg number nG. It was found that the low concentration of Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles up to x = 0.08 wt% improves the superconducting parameters of Cu0.5Tl0.5-1223 phase. The effect of multi-intermediate bands on the behavior of an InAs_(1-x)n_x/GaAs(1-y)Sb_y quantum dot solar cell

A mathematical model of quantum dot intermediate band solar cells （QDIBSCs） is investigated using two intermediate bands （IBs）. These two IBs arise from the quantum dot （QD） semiconductor material within the bandgap energy. Some parameters such as the width of the QD （WQD） and the barrier thickness or the inter-dot distances between the QDs （BT） are studied to show their influence on the performance of the QDIBSC. The timeindependent Schr6dinger equation, which is solved using the Kronig-Penney model, is used to determine the posi- tion and bandwidth energies of the two IBs. In our proposed model, the cubic shape of the QDs from InAs0.9n0.1 and the barrier or host semiconductor material from GaAs0.98Sb0.02 are utilized. It is shown from the results obtained that changing the parameters WQD and Bx has more influence on the bandwidth energy for the first IB, A 1, than in the case of the second IB, A2. The optimum power conversion efficiencies （PCEs） of the QDIBSCs with two IBs for the model under study are 58.01% and 73.55% at 1 sun and maximum solar concentration, respectively. One can observe that, in the case of the two IBs, an improvement of the PCE is achieved.

An optimized Parkinson’s disorder identification through evolutionary fast learning network

Association between <i>Helicobacter pylori</i>Infection and Iron Deficiency Anemia among School-Age Children in Sohag University Hospital, Upper Egypt

Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has been suggested as a cause of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) refractory to iron therapy. Objective: The aim of this work was to evaluate the association between H. pylori infection and IDA among school-age children. Subjects and methods: This was a prospective case-control study conducted for one year starting from march 2015 and included 200 school-age children with IDA and 50 age and sex matched non-anemic controls, attending pediatric outpatient clinic at Sohag university Hospital, Sohag, Upper Egypt. All of participants were subjected to clinical evaluation and the following investigations: CBC, serum iron, total iron binding capacity, serum ferritin and a quantitative detection of H. pylori IgG antibodies. Results: Totally, 72 (36%) children with IDA and 6 (12%) non-anemic controls had positive level for H. pylori specific IgG (P = 0.036). H. pylori IgG antibody titer showed significant positive correlation with age and significant negative correlation with each of Hb level, mCV, HCT and serum ferritin. Age was higher (p H. pylori positive IDA cases in comparison to H. pylori negative IDA cases. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate significant association between positive serology for H. pylori infection and IDA in school-age children. moreover, infection may increase the severity of anemia.
