Helicobacter pylori may be an initiating factor in newly diagnosed ulcerative colitis patients: A pilot study

AIm To directly visualize Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) by the highly sensitive and specific technique of immunohistochemical staining in colonic tissue from patients newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis(UC).mETHODS Colonoscopic biopsies from thirty patients with newly diagnosed UC and thirty controls were stained with Giemsa stain and immunohistochemical stain for detection of H. pylori in the colonic tissue. Results were confirmed by testing H. pylori Ag in the stool then infected patients were randomized to receive either anti H. pylori treatment or *** Twelve/30(40%) of the UC patients were positive for H. pylori by Giemsa, and 17/30(56.6%) by immunohistochemistry stain. Among the control group 4/30(13.3%) and 6/30(20 %) were positive for H. pylori by Giemsa and immunohistochemistry staining respectively. H. pylori was significantly higher in UC than in controls(P = 0.04 and 0.007). All Giemsa positive patients and controls were positive by immunohistochemical stain. Four cases of the control group positive for H. pylori also showed microscopic features consistent with early *** H. pylori can be detected in colonic mucosa of patients with UC and patients with histological superficial ulcerations and mild infiltration consistent with early UC. There seems to be an association between UC and presence of H. pylori in the colonic tissue. Whether this is a causal relationship or not remains to be discovered.

Impact of Droughts on Cedrus atlantica Forests Dieback in the Auras （Algeria）

Cedar forests area in northeastern Algeria （Aures） is decreasing by the massive tree mortality. In some localities more than 95% of the trees have recently died （e.g. Boumerzoug in Belezma National Park）. Three reported episodes of massive tree mortality in 1880, 1980, and 2000 were attributed to drought at least as the triggering factor. Our main objective was to reconstruct drought events that could be linked to Atlas cedar tree mortality using tree-ring series. We developed a Cedrus atlantica tree-ring width chronology in Chelia with a reliable period spanning from 1502 to 2008. Based on the relationship between chronology indices and instrumental precipitation data, we reconstructed total October-June precipitation. Dry events were identified using a threshold of 90% of the October-June mean instrumental precipitation. The unique drought event of 3-year period （1877-1879） could explain the tree mortality occurred in 1880. In terms of severity and frequency of droughts, the later half of the twentieth century seems to be the worst and may be responsible for the recent tree mortality.

Isolation and Identification of Specific Pathogens, Presence of Antibiotics, Aflatoxins, Pesticide Residues and Industrial Contaminants in Supply Chain of milk in Selected Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh

A research study was undertaken to carry out isolation and identification of specific pathogens, presence of antibiotics, aflatoxins, pesticide residues and industrial contaminants in supply chain of milk in selected coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. The milk is a whole food;it is categorized under perishable foods as it is biologically nutrient liquid that supports the growth of wide variety of microorganisms and is susceptible to spoilage. The quality of milk can be affected by the presence of additional water, detergents, disinfectants, antibiotics, pesticides and pathogens like bacteria, viruses, toxins released by molds such as aflatoxins and heavy metals etc. The raw milk is usually colonized by pathogens like Campylobacter jejuni, enterohemorrhagic Escherichia. coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Yersinia enterocolitica. The milk samples were collected from vendors of East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. The milk samples were found to be positive for Tetracycline and Beta lactam antibiotics. The Aspergillus flavus was identified and the colonies producing aflatoxin m1 appeared in yellow color on the Aspergillus agar (m1127). The pesticides and heavy metals in raw and chilled milk samples were detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The pesticide residues were found in raw and chilled milk samples include Lindane, Endosulfan, Chlorane, Heptachlor and methoxchlor. The heavy metals like lead, arsenic, zinc and mercury residues were found to occur in raw and chilled milk samples. The hygienic quality of the milk in the current study was found to be poor due to exceeding the standard limits in number of specific pathogens, antibiotic, aflatoxin m1, pesticide and heavy metal residues. Immediate measures are needed to be taken to ensure safety of raw milk in public point of view in Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari regions.

Solution of a Nonlinear Delay Differential Equation Using Adomian Decomposition method with Accelerated Formula of Adomian Polynomial

The aim of this paper is to apply Adomian decomposition method (ADm) for solving some classes of nonlinear delay differential equations (NDDEs) with accelerated Adomian polynomial called El-kalla polynomial proposed by El-kalla [1]. The main advantages of El-kalla polynomials can be summarized in the following main three points: 1) El-kalla polynomials are recursive and do not have derivative terms so, El-kalla formula is easy in programming and save much time on the same processor compared with the traditional Adomian polynomials formula;2) Solution using El-kalla polynomials converges faster than the traditional Adomian polynomials;3) El-kalla polynomials used directly in estimating the maximum absolute truncated error of the series solution. Some convergence remarks are studied and some numerical examples are solved using the Adomian decomposition method using the two polynomials (Adomian polynomial and El-kalla polynomial). In all applied cases, we obtained an excellent performance that may lead to a promising approach for many applications.

Background: Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) is a frequent pathology in children. There is little data on the future of NS in children in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Cameroon. The aim of our study is to report the prognosis of children treated for nephrotic syndrome in the city of Yaoundé. method: This was an analytical cross-sectional study with retrospective collection in 4 reference hospitals in the Cameroonian capital over a period of five years from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022. We included all medical records of patients treated for idiopathic INS. We excluded incomplete records and those with a history of chronic kidney disease. The sociodemographic, clinical, paraclinical, and therapeutic data, as well as the short-term evolution were collected in the files. Data was analysed using the software statistical package for social sciences version 25.0. Statistical significance was set at a p-value Results: A total of 131 children (58% boys) were included in our study over a period of 5 years. The median age was 8 [6 - 11] years. median proteinuria was 5 g/24h [3 - 8.4], median serum protein was 39 [34 - 46] g/l and median estimated glomerular filtration rate was 130.36 [68 - 174.6] ml/min/1.73m2. During steroid therapy, 45.07% were in partial remission at 2 months, 16.9% were in complete remission at 4 and 6 months, and 37.25% had relapsed. Steroid sensitivity was reported in 28.17% of cases, steroid resistance in 64.78% of cases and steroid dependent in 7.04% of cases. The mortality rate was 12.97%. Survival time averaged 48.2 months, with an overall crude survival rate of 99.2% at 3 and 6 months and 98.4% at 1 year. Regarding renal survival, renal function was impaired in 8.33% of patients at 6 months and 9% at 12 months. Conclusion: Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is a common disease in children. The authors evaluated floccular activity with fmRI during the performance of vertical smooth pursuit eye movements in four patients with downbeat nystagmus (DBN) due to cerebellar degeneration and in 16 healthy controls. Region of interest analysis revealed a significantly diminished activation of both floccular lobes during downward but not upward pursuit in DBN. These imaging data support the view that a functional deficiency of the flocculi in downward pursuit causes DBN.

The application of single-phase face-centered cubic(FCC)medium entropy alloys(mEAs)in the engi-neering industry is often hindered by the challenge of insufficient *** this study,a novel non-equiatomic ratio Ni_(40)Co_(30)Cr_(20)Al_(5)Ti_(5)mEA was successfully *** the well-designed mechan-ical heat treatment processing,we introduced a heterogeneous grain structure comprising 67.4%fine grain and 32.6%coarse ***,heterogeneous size L12 phases consisting of 18.7%submicron precip-itates and 11.7%nano-sized precipitates,were incorporated into the *** tests conducted at room temperature revealed that the double heterogeneous structure alloy demonstrated remarkable strength–ductility *** exhibited a yield strength of 1200 mPa,an ultimate tensile strength of 1560 mPa and a total elongation of 33.6%.The exceptional strength of the alloy can be primarily attributed to heteroge-neous deformation induced strengthening,grain boundary strengthening and precipitation *** excellent ductility is mainly attributed to the high-density stacking faults and Lomer–Cottrell *** study not only contributes to the clarification of the strengthening and deformation mechanism of double heterogeneous structure alloys but also provides an effective strategy for the development of high-performance alloys with high strength and ductility.

The study of the propagation of infectious diseases in urban centers finds a close connection with their population's social characteristics and *** work performs a spatial analysis of dengue cases in urban centers based on the basic reproduction numbers,R0,and incidence by planning areas(PAs),as well as their correlations with the Human Development Index(hdi)and the number of *** analyzed dengue epidemics in 2002 at two Brazilian urban centers,Belo Horizonte(BH)and Rio de Janeiro(RJ),using PAs as spatial *** results reveal heterogeneous spatial scenarios for both cities,with very weak correlations between R0 and both the number of trips and the hdi;in BH,the values of R0 show a less spatial heterogeneous pattern than in *** BH,there are moderate correlations between incidence and both the number of trips and the hdi;meanwhile,they weakly correlate for ***,the absence of strong correlations between the considered measures indicates that the transmission process should be treated considering the city as a whole.
