Oil palm ash(OPA)is an agro-industry waste and it has disposable *** the present study,an effort was made for value addition to OPA by incorporating it as a micro-filler in different concentration(0,10,20,30,40,and 50%)and sizes(100,200,and 300 mesh size particles)in the epoxy *** micro OPA was having a crystallinity index of 65.4%,high inorganic elements,and smooth surface *** composites had higher void content as compared to neat epoxy *** properties of fabricated composites had a maximum value at 30%loading of 300 mesh-size filler due to its low void content and size as compared to filler of 100 and 200 mesh *** increase in the concentration of OPA filler after 30 wt%of loading leads to the agglomeration of OPA microparticles and thereby resulted in the reduction of mechanical characteristics such as tensile strength,tensile modulus,flexural strength and flexural modulus of the ***,elongation at break decreased with increase in filler content at all *** stability and char residue percentage of composite increased with the concentration of filler at all *** morphology of composite showed that OPA incorporation lead towards its roughness and cracks were originated from the site of OPA embedded in the epoxy *** 300 mesh-size particles were having the best effect on composite as compared to 100 and 200 mesh-size filler.

The 4 th Euro-mediterranean Conference of Natural Products and drug discovery: Back to mother Nature (Bio Nat-IV) was recently (from march 3 rd through 7 th, 2015) convened in Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh along the Red Sea coast of Egypt. Overall, the meeting provided a platform for scientists from different nations to discuss emerging ideas that focused on cell signaling in cancer;the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases;the identification and use of natural products as well as novel drug delivery approaches for the treatment of cancer,arthritis, diabetes, tuberculosis, fungal infection, etc.;and untapped or unconventional sources for natural products. This fourth in a row conference tried to bridge the gap not only between basic research and clinical applications, but also between developed nations and developing countries. With the continuing success of these past meetings, the fifth Euromediterranean Conference of Natural Products and drug discovery(BioNat-V) is slated to be in February 2017.

Silicon micromirrors with three-dimensional curvature enabling lensless efficient coupling of free-space light

miniaturized optical benches process free-space light propagating in-plane with respect to the substrate and have a large variety of applications,including the coupling of light through an optical *** coupling efficiency is usually obtained using assembled micro-optical parts,which considerably increase the system cost and integration *** this work,we report a high coupling efficiency,monolithically integrated silicon micromirror with controlled three-dimensional(3d)curvature that is capable of manipulating optical beams propagating in the plane of the silicon *** on our theoretical modeling,a spherical micromirror with a microscale radius of curvature as small as twice the Gaussian beam Rayleigh range provides a 100%coupling efficiency over a relatively long optical path *** dimensionless parameters facilitates the elucidation of the role of key design parameters,including the mirror’s radii of curvature,independent of the wavelength.A micromachining method is presented for fabricating the 3d micromirror using fluorinated gas *** measured coupling efficiency was greater than 50%over a 200-mm optical path,compared to less than 10%afforded by a conventional flat micromirror,which was in good agreement with the *** the 3d micromirror,an optical cavity was formed with a round-trip diffraction loss of less than 0.4%,resulting in one order of magnitude enhancement in the measured quality factor.A nearly 100%coupling was also estimated when matching the sagittal and tangential radii of curvature of the presented micromirror’s *** reported class of 3d micromirrors may be an advantageous replacement for the optical lenses usually assembled in silicon photonics and optical benches by transforming them into real 3d monolithic systems while achieving wideband high coupling efficiency over submillimeter distances.

maize response to elevated plant density combined with lowered N-fertilizer rate is genotype-dependent

Increasing plant density and improving N fertilizer rate along with the use of high density-tolerant genotypes would lead to maximizing maize(Zea mays L.) grain productivity per unit land area. The objective of this investigation was to match the functions of optimum plant density and adequate nitrogen fertilizer application to produce the highest possible yields per unit area with the greatest maize genotype efficiency. Six maize inbred lines differing in tolerance to low N and high density(d) [three tolerant(T); L-17, L-18, L-53,and three sensitive(S); L-29, L-54, L-55] were chosen for diallel crosses. Parents and crosses were evaluated in the 2012 and 2013 seasons under three plant densities: low(47,600),medium(71,400), and high(95,200) plants ha-1and three N fertilization rates: low(no N addition), medium(285 kg N ha-1) and high(570 kg N ha-1). The T × T crosses were superior to the S × S and T × S crosses under the low N–high d environment in most studied traits across seasons. The relationships between the nine environments and grain yield per hectare(GYPH) showed near-linear regression functions for inbreds L54, L29, and L55 and hybrids L18 × L53 and L18 × L55 with the highest GYPH at a density of47,600 plants ha-1and N rate of 570 kg N ha-1and a curvilinear relationship for inbreds L17, L18, and L53 and the rest of the hybrids with the highest GYPH at a density of95,200 plants ha-1combined with an N rate of 570 kg N ha-1. Cross L17 × L54 gave the highest grain yield in this study under both high N–high-d(19.9 t ha-1) and medium N–high-d environments(17.6 t ha-1).

An Iterative Relaxation Approach to the Solution of the hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs Equation in Nonlinear Optimal Control

In this paper, we propose an iterative relaxation method for solving the hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs equation(HJBIE) arising in deterministic optimal control of affine nonlinear systems. Local convergence of the method is established under fairly mild assumptions, and examples are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. An extension of the approach to Lyapunov equations is also discussed. The preliminary results presented are promising, and it is hoped that the approach will ultimately develop into an efficient computational tool for solving the HJBIEs.

determination of sodium hyaluronate in pharmaceutical formulations by HPLC–UV

A liquid chromatography （HPLC） method with UV detection was developed for determination of sodium hyaluronate in pharmaceutical formulation. Sodium hyaluronate is a polymer of disaccharides, composed of d-glucuronic acid and d-N-acetylglucosamine, linked via alternating 13-1, 4 and d-l, 3 glycosidic bonds. Being a polymer compound it lacks a UV absorbing chromophore. In the absence of a UV absorbing chromophore and highly polar nature of compound, the analysis becomes a major challenge. To overcome these problems a novel method for the determination of sodium hyaluronate was developed and validated based on size exclusion liquid chromatography （SEC） with UV detection. An isocratic mobile phase consisting of buffer 0.05 m potassium dihydrogen phosphate, pH adjusted to 7.0 using potassium hydroxide （10%） was used. Chromatography was carried out at 25 ~C on a BioSep SEC $2000, 300 mm ~ 7.8 mm column. The detection was carded out using variable wavelength UV-vis detector set at 205 nm. The compounds were eluted isocratically at a steady flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Sodium hyaluronate retention time was about 4.9 min with an asymmetry factor of 1.93. A calibration curve was obtained from 1 to 38 g/mL （r〉0.9998）. Within-day % RSd was 1.0 and between-day % RSd was 1.10. Specificity/selectivity experiments revealed the absence of interference from excipients, recovery from spiked samples for sodium hyaluronate was 99-102. The developed method was applied to the determination of sodium hyaluronate in pharmaceutical drug substance and product.

In this paper, iterative or successive approximation methods for the hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-lsaacs equations （HJBIEs） arising in both deterministic and stochastic optimal control for affine nonlinear systems are developed. Convergence of the methods are established under fairly mild assumptions, and examples are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods. However, the results presented in the paper are preliminary, and do not yet imply in anyway that the solutions computed will be stabilizing. more improvements and experimentation will be required before a satisfactory algorithm is developed.

Analytical modeling and Experimental Validation of Electromagnetic Field Radiated by In-house PLC Lines

Broadband PLC （power line communication） technology is a main factor of the development of digital convergence in the indoor network. It uses the already existing power cable infrastructure for communication purposes. The Em （electromagnetic） field radiating from the cable could, however, disturb other communication systems, and thus should be evaluated. The mom （method of moment） and the FEm （finite element method） have been studied to estimate the EVI field emitted from the power cable. However, the m om is difficult to treat the dielectric material of the cable and the FEm is time consuming. This paperpresents a new approach to estimate the radiated Em fields caused by PLC sy stems from the Cm current along the cable, based on the transmission line theory. The proposed model has the advantage of using the measured primary parameters of the cable. An experimental analysis of the Em radiation distribution is also presented. A comparison showed that the model results agree quite well with the measurements performed in this study.
