Silicone rubber(SiR)composite material is a modern-day insulator for high voltage outdoor *** imperfection attributed to SiR is its weak resistance to tracking and erosion when exposed to an outdoor polluted environment which reduces its operational *** paper investigates the performance of SiR with the addition of 0,1,2.5,5,10 and 20%by weight contents of nano alumina(Al_(2)O_(3)).Inclined plane tests are performed according to IEC 60587 using the step up tracking voltage method with an initial voltage of 3.0 kV and the contaminant solution flow rate is maintained at 0.3 ml/min using a peristaltic *** applied voltage level is increased at a rate of 0.25 kV/*** suggest that physical tracking,erosion,RmS leakage current and surface partial discharge(PD)performance of samples is improved with the addition of nano *** tracking length,eroded mass,RmS leakage current and average PD magnitude are measured 22%,79%,30%and 52%lesser in 20 wt%relative to 0 wt%,respectively.A thermal distribution analysis is undertaken with infrared camera and it is discovered that heat is accumulated in the discharge area of the liquid *** maximum temperature on the insulating specimen is decreased with increasing nanofiller *** above promising findings can be due to better thermal stability with low chain mobility at the interaction zone of SiR and ***,less liquid evaporation due to better thermal conduction and improved physical bonding between SiR and nano alumina are possible reasons behind the excellent performance of nanocomposites.

Exploring Crowdsourced Hard—Acceleration and Braking Event Data for Evaluating Safety Performance of Low-Volume Rural Highways in Iowa

There are over four million miles of two-lane roadways across the United States, of which a substantial portion is low-volume roads (LVR). Traditionally, most traffic safety efforts and countermeasures focus on high-volume high-crash urban locations. This is because LVRs cover an extensive area, and the rarity of crashes makes it challenging to use crash data to monitor the safety performance of LVRs regularly. In addition, obtaining up-to-date roadway information, such as pavement or shoulder conditions of an extensive LVR network, can be exceptionally difficult. In recent times, crowdsourced hard-acceleration and braking event data have become commercially available, which can provide precise geolocation information and can be readily acquired from different vendors. The present paper examines the potential use of this data to identify opportunities to monitor the safety of LVRs. This research examined approximately 12 million hard-acceleration and hard-braking events over a 3-months period and 26,743 crashes, including 9373 fatal injuries over the past 5-year period. The study found a moderate correlation between hard acceleration/hard-braking events with historical crash events. This study conducted a hot spot analysis using hard-acceleration/hard-braking and crash datasets. Hotspot analysis detected spatial clusters of high-risk crash locations and detected 848 common high-risk sites. Finally, this paper proposes a combined ranking scheme that simultaneously considers historical crash events and hard-acceleration/hard-braking events. The research concludes by suggesting that agencies can potentially use the hard-acceleration and hard-braking event dataset along with the historical crash dataset to effectively supervise the safety performance of the vast network of LVRs more frequently.

Evaluation of Arterial Signal Coordination with Commercial Connected Vehicle Data: Empirical Traffic Flow Visualization and Performance measurement

Emerging connected vehicle (CV) data sets have recently become commercially available, enabling analysts to develop a variety of powerful performance measures without deploying any field infrastructure. This paper presents several tools using CV data to evaluate traffic progression quality along a signalized corridor. These include both performance measures for high-level analysis as well as visualizations to examine details of the coordinated operation. With the use of CV data, it is possible to assess not only the movement of traffic on the corridor but also to consider its origin-destination (O-D) path through the corridor. Results for the real-world operation of an eight-intersection signalized arterial are presented. A series of high-level performance measures are used to evaluate overall performance by time of day, with differing results by metric. Next, the details of the operation are examined with the use of two visualization tools: a cyclic time-space diagram (TSD) and an empirical platoon progression diagram (PPD). Comparing flow visualizations developed with different included O-D paths reveals several features, such as the presence of secondary and tertiary platoons on certain sections that cannot be seen when only end-to-end journeys are included. In addition, speed heat maps are generated, providing both speed performance along the corridor and locations and the extent of the queue. The proposed visualization tools portray the corridor’s performance holistically instead of combining individual signal performance metrics. The techniques exhibited in this study are compelling for identifying locations where engineering solutions such as access management or timing plan change are required. The recent progress in infrastructure-free sensing technology has significantly increased the scope of CV data-based traffic management systems, enhancing the significance of this study. Brain tumor is one of the most dreadful worldwide types of cancer and affects people leading to *** resonance imaging methods capture skull images that contain healthy and affected *** checked the affected tissue in the slice-by-slice manner,which was timeconsuming and hectic ***,auto segmentation of the affected part is needed to facilitate ***,we have considered a hybrid model that inherits the convolutional neural network(CNN)properties to the support vector machine(SVm)for the auto-segmented brain tumor *** CNN model is initially used to detect brain tumors,while SVm is integrated to segment the tumor region *** proposed method was evaluated on a publicly available BraTS2020 *** statistical parameters used in this work for the mathematical measures are precision,accuracy,specificity,sensitivity,and dice ***,our method achieved an accuracy value of 0.98,which is most prominent than existing ***,the proposed approach is more suitable for medical experts to diagnose the early stages of the brain tumor.

Nitriding of Aluminium Alloy in Nitrogen and Nitrogen-Helium mixture Using 100 Hz-Pulsed DC Glow Discharge

Nitriding of aluminium alloy （***0.8） in nitrogen and nitrogen-helium mixture was carried out by using 100 Hz-pulsed DC glow discharge. Samples are treated for different durations, namely 4 h, 8 h and 12 h, in nitrogen plasma as well as in a mixture of nitrogen- helium plasma for the same processing duration of 4 h. All nitriding treatments are carried out at an input power of 100 W, filling pressure of 1 mbar and substrates temperature of 250~C. X-ray diffraction （XRD） results show an expansion in lattice spacing and consequently shift of diffraction peaks towards lower angle with the addition of helium in nitrogen plasma. Surface morphology of the treated sample is investigated by scanning electron microscopy （SEm） and energy dispersive X-ray analysis （EDX）. Vickers micro-hardness testing results show increases in surface hardness with processing duration as well as with the addition of helium in nitrogen plasmas. This increase of surface hardness may be attributed to the diffusion of nitrogen content in the surface layer generating internal stresses. It is observed that the addition of helium positively affects the nitriding of samples.

Analytical approach to entropy generation and heat transfer in CNT-nanofluid dynamics through a ciliated porous medium

The transportation of biological and industrial nanofluids by natural propulsion like cilia movement and self-generated contraction-relaxation of flexible walls has significant applications in numerous emerging technologies. Inspired by multi-disciplinary progress and innovation in this direction, a thermo-fluid mechanical model is proposed to study the entropy generation and convective heat transfer of nanofluids fabricated by the dispersion of single-wall carbon nanotubes（SWCNT） nanoparticles in water as the base fluid. The regime studied comprises heat transfer and steady, viscous, incompressible flow, induced by metachronal wave propulsion due to beating cilia, through a cylindrical tube containing a sparse（i.e., high permeability） homogenous porous medium. The flow is of the creeping type and is restricted under the low Reynolds number and long wavelength approximations. Slip effects at the wall are incorporated and the generalized Darcy drag-force model is utilized to mimic porous media effects. Cilia boundary conditions for velocity components are employed to determine analytical solutions to the resulting non-dimensionalized boundary value problem. The influence of pertinent physical parameters on temperature, axial velocity, pressure rise and pressure gradient, entropy generation function, Bejan number and stream-line distributions are computed numerically. A comparative study between SWCNT-nanofluids and pure water is also computed. The computations demonstrate that axial flow is accelerated with increasing slip parameter and Darcy number and is greater for SWCNT-nanofluids than for pure water. Furthermore the size of the bolus for SWCNT-nanofluids is larger than that of the pure water. The study is applicable in designing and fabricating nanoscale and microfluidics devices, artificial cilia and biomimetic micro-pumps.

Alternate solutions for mine ventilation network to keep a preassigned fixed quantity in a working place

In underground constructions, a good ventilation design not only delivers fresh air to establish good working environment, but also provides a scientific and reliable basis to prevent disasters. In emergency cases, unexpected closure of the main airways may occur, providing the workers with alternative airways is substantial. This is important not only to sustain personnel lives, but also to prevent the mine ventilation system from damage. In this research, alternate solutions were introduced in case of failure in the underground construction to keep a pre-assigned fixed quantity in a working place for mine ventilation network. Eight different collapse scenarios were proposed to study their effect on the air quantity distribution among the branches in the ventilation circuit. From these scenarios, it is found that providing a sufficient air quantity in the working places could be achieved through modification of the network topology and adjusting the values of the regulators pressure. It is also indicated that the distance between the collapse and working places has a great effect on the amount of air delivered to it. A reduction in the power consumption could be done by re-arrange the installed regulators and decreasing the number of nodes and branches inside the network. A relationship representing the effect of changing the network topology on the total network power consumption was deduced through regression analysis. It is found that the total network power is quadratic dependent on the number of regulators and number of branches while it is directly dependent on the regulator power.
