Antioxidative, cytotoxic, and anti-metastatic potentials of Laurencia obtusa and Ulva lactuca seaweeds

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and cytotoxic properties of the most active extracts from Ulva lactuca and Laurencia obtusa against colon and cervical cancer cell ***:The antioxidant radical scavenging activity of the algal extracts was estimated using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhyd.azyl colorimetric ***,the cytotoxic potential of these bioactive extracts was studied against HCT-116 and HeLa cells by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** healing analysis was adopted to evaluate the antimetastatic effects of protein extracts from both *** cycle analysis was performed by flow cytometry,and apoptotic bodies were detected using 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole fluorescent *** acids of hydrolyzed protein extract were separated and identified chromatographically by high performance liquid ***:The green algae Ulva lactuca had higher lipid content than Laurencia obtusa,whereas the latter had higher protein content with high antioxidant *** extracts had significant dose-and time-dependent cytotoxicity and anti-metastatic activity against HCT-116 *** b extracts of both algae obtained from the chloroform:hexane solvent lipid-free residue caused morphological changes and induced apoptosis of HCT-116 *** analysis revealed that apoptosis induced upon Laurencia obtusa protein b treatment was triggered via the ROS pathway,causing a significant increase in the sub-G_(1) *** and arginine(5.94 and 5.47μm,respectively)were the most common amino acids in Laurencia obtusa protein b ***:Proteins of Laurencia obtusa and Ulva lactuca could be considered as an adjuvant nutraceutical source of pro-apoptotic and anti-metastatic biomolecules against colon cancer.

Role of illness perception and self-efficacy in lifestyle modification among non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients

To describe the relationships between non-alcoholic fatty-liver disease (NAFLd) patient’s disease consequences and treatment perceptions, self-efficacy, and healthy lifestyle *** cross-sectional study among 146 ultrasound diagnosed NAFLd patients who visited the fatty liver clinic at the Tel-Aviv medical Center. Eighty-seven of these individuals, participated in a clinical trial of physical activity and underwent fasting blood tests, analyzed at the same lab. Exclusion criteria included positivity for serum HBsAg or anti-HCV antibodies; fatty liver suspected to be secondary to hepatotoxic drugs; excessive alcohol consumption (≥ 30 g/d in men or ≥ 20 g/d in women) and positive markers of genetic or immune-mediated liver diseases. Patients were asked to complete a self-report structured questionnaire, assembled by the Israeli Center for disease Control. Nutrition habits were measured using six yes/no questions (0 = no, 1 = yes) adopted from the national survey questionnaire. Participants in the clinical trial completed a detailed semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) reporting their habitual nutritional intake during the past year. Self-efficacy was assessed by the Self-Efficacy Scale questionnaire, emotional representation, degree of illness understanding, timeline perception, treatment perception and symptoms were measured by the Brief Illness Perception questionnaire. Illness consequences were measured by the Personal models of diabetes Interview questionnaire. A path analysis was performed to describe the interrelationships between the patients’ illness perceptions, and assess the extent to which the data fit a prediction of nutritional *** study sample included 54.1% men, with a mean age of 47.76 ± 11.68 years (range: 20-60) and mean body mass index of 31.56 ± 4.6. Fluorescent centres in silicon have recently attracted great interest,owing to their remarkable properties for quantum ***,we demonstrate that the C-centre in silicon can realise an optically readable quantum register in the L-band wavelength region where the transmission losses in commercial optical fibres are *** in-depth theoretical characterisation confirms the assignment of the C-centre to the carbon-oxygen interstitial pair *** further explore its magneto-optical properties,such as hyperfine and spin-orbit coupling constants from first principles calculations,which are crucial for tight control of the quantum states of the triplet electron *** on this data,we set up quantum optics protocols to initialise and read out the quantum states of the electron spin,and realise a quantum memory by transferring quantum information from the electron spin to proximate ^(29)Si nuclear *** findings establish an optically readable long-living quantum memory in silicon where the scalability of qubits may be achieved by CmOS-compatible technology.

Central and peripheral neurological involvement in monoclonal gammopathies of undetermined significance

Several studies have suggested a pathogenetic role of paraproteinaemias in PNS damage. Over the few last years, the presence of symptomatic or subclinical PNS lesions in CNS diseases like multiple sclerosis has been described. On the other hand, CNS demyelinating lesions and cervical atrophy have been re- ported in patients affected by chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIdP). Very few cases of mGUS associated with CNS disease alone or with both CNS and PNS disease have been re- ported. Since 1999, we have been studying 16 patients (8 m, 8 F), with a mean age 60.2 ± 13.4, affected by mGUS associated with symptomatic neurological central and/or peripheral diseases. Patients affected with lymphomas, lupus erithematosus and other immunological diseases were excluded. Involvement of both PNS and CNS was not associated to a particular type of paraproteinemia: monoclonal Igm were found in 8 patients;monoclonal IgG in 6 patients and mono- clonal IgA in 1 patient and Igl in 1 patient. High anti- nervous system autoantibodies were found in 10/16 patients and antimAG antibodies were detected in patients with paraproteinemic demyelinating neuropathy (PdN). High reactivity anti-nervous system might support the hypothesis of a pathogenetic role of mGUS in these neurological diseases. Nevertheless, at present, we cannot exclude that there is only a circumstantial association between mGUS and neurological damages, particularly concerning CNS.

大气折光差对摄影测量精度的影响在地面或近景摄影条件下可以忽略,但在中高空航空摄影测量甚或航天卫星摄影测量条件下应予以充分考虑,并采取有效的误差补偿方法,才有望达到尽可能高的理想测量精度。在对大气折光差误差成因分析的基础上,推导了其影响航摄影像像移的计算公式,提出了系统误差补偿方法,并分别通过算例量化给出了3500m正直摄影和5000m倾斜摄影条件下大气折光差对航摄影像像移造成的影响,这为航空或航天摄影测量在特定测图精度要求下是否考虑大气折光差影响提供了论证依据。
